Pierce out indefinitely

The New York Giants announced LB Antonio Pierce (neck) as diagnosed with a bulging disc in his neck Friday, Nov. 20, and he will be sidelined indefinitely, according to the team's medical staff. Pierce originally suffered a burner Oct. 25 and experienced very little discomfort until practicing this week. Pierce said, "I had no idea that what happened a few weeks ago could keep me off the field. I didn't think it was that serious. I'm going to do everything the doctors tell me to do so I can get back out on the field as soon as possible."

Does Blackburn move in or does Goff get a chance?

T. Jackson vs. S. Piscitelli

It appears to me that Tanard Jackson is the safety to own between the two yet every week I hear the FBG staff hype Piscitelli over Jackson. This week Norton continues to have Piscitelli ranked higher in projections while Borbely hypes him as a "prime" sleeper.

I am not saying Piscitelli is a bum, but if anyone should be hyped in that Tampa secondary, it should be T. Jackson. He combines the tackle numbers with the big play ability. Exactly what you look for in a fantasy DB.

Let the stats speak for themselves...

Last 5 weeks (FBG scoring)

T. Jackson
26 Tackles, 6 Assited, 1 FF, 1 FR, 3 Int, 3 Pds = 71 points

S. Piscitelli
23 Tackles, 5 Assisted, 1 FF, O FR, O Int, O Pds = 42.25 points

I know SS is the "favorite" fantasy position typically, but I don't think that applies in Tampa.

I am far from an expert, so please help me to understand. Am I missing something?

Where had he been and why has he been so effective?

Dashon Goldshon - SFO - Total pts wise (in our scoring) he is on par with D Manning. Fills up a stat sheet with decent tackle numbers too. Seems even more appealing vs GB this week.

Im itchin to grab one of these fellas ASAP - any background info is greatly appreciated !! TIA

Chris Long - any thoughts?

Jene, I noticed that Chris Long had fallen in your and Bloom's most recent IDP Dynasty DL rankings. Since then he has posted a couple of decent games for the Rams and I am beginning to think he is on a similar pace to what he produced last season. There was a time when he was the darling of IDP DL stashers everywhere due to his promise of greatness and playing in a traditional 4-3 in St. Louis. I now see him actually getting cut loose in a few leagues and I am left scratching my head and seriously questioning whether I am missing something with him at this point. I mean, he is still only in this 2nd season and plays on a poor Rams team (but emerging defensively I think). Long still projects to be a potential top-10 type of talent at DL correct, or am I missing something in his game? What did you take into consideration when you moved him down your rankings a bit? The bottom line is, he is available in a handful of leagues I am sure, does he deserve a look in general? Does he warrant consideration over other high upside ends like WHayes & Avril, etc?

Why you should optimize your lineup before the playoffs

Week 11 was a crazy week, but presents a valuable lesson.

Drew Brees/Ben Roethlisberger/Carson Palmer
Cedric Benson/Michael Turner
Vincent Jackson/Nate Burleson/Marques Colston/Hines Ward/Chad Ochocinco
Trent Cole/Jared Allen/Julius Peppers/Terrell Suggs
Curtis Lofton/James Laurinaitis/James Harrison

Everyone of the above players have been a big part of fantasy successes this year. Some had injury issues, but the vast majority succumbed not to poor play but to the fickle gods of fantasy variance. No matter how strong your team is, it can always be made stronger before the playoffs. Don't panic, but don't leave depth or future considerations on the table that could improve your lineup (and decrease your potential variance) during the playoffs.

Those with underdog teams should take heart here. Stud teams aren't invincible. Start planning your attack with high upside lineup options based on above-average matchups. A couple of unexpectedly bad games by your stud opponent and a couple of well-timed upside plays in your lineup can send the lowest seed to the next round.

Best of luck down the stretch.

W10 News, Notes and Inactives

Breaking news stories and inactives will be posted as we get them.

News and Notes

The Eagles shuffled their backers this week. With Akeem Jordan out, Moise Fouku moves into the lineup at SLB, with Chris Gocong moving to the middle and Will Witherspoon to WLB. Expect a lot of dime looks from the Eagles, with Gocong seeing more nickel snaps than usual.

The Bills will use Bryan Scott at WLB this week, presumably in an every-down role, with Chris Draft on the strong side. It’s possible Nic Harris could play some at LB as well. Jairus Byrd and Donte Whitner (if healthy, George Wilson if not) are expected to play safety.

Tim Dobbins probably won’t play this week, but Kevin Burnett practiced all week and likely rotates with Brandon Siler inside today.

Roy Williams was placed on IR this week. Chinedum Ndukwe moves back into an every-down role.

Chris Horton was placed on IR this week. Reed Doughty moves back into an every-down role.

The Seahawks noted this week that they may strongly consider a 3-4 front next year to keep David Hawthorne on the field. For now, it appears to be Hawthorne and Leroy Hill in the nickel, with Aaron Curry in a diminished role.

It’s still unclear what the Browns plan to do at ILB this week after Eric Barton was put on IR. Coaching comments suggest a rotation among four players again this week.

Dawan Landry will rotate at the SS position with Haruki Nakamura and Tom Zbikowski.

Injuries

Keith Ellison, Terrence McGee, Aaron Kampman, Ernie Sims, Antoine Winfield, Ricky Brown, Kelvin Hayden, Sedrick Ellis, Jabari Greer, Akeem Jordan, Stylez White

Larry Foote is listed questionable with a knee injury but is apparently expected to play after only a limited Friday practice. Jordon Dizon, his would-be replacement, was limited all week with a neck injury and is also questionable.

Ray Lewis was listed probable yesterday despite not practicing much with a foot injury. He’s expected to play.

Keith Rivers is very unlikely to play this week. Brandon Johnson will be an every-down WLB in his absence.

David Thornton was limited in practice all week and is questionable. Gerald McRath would again replace him in the lineup, with Stephen Tulloch playing for Thornton in the nickel.

Aaron Schobel is listed questionable but was only able to be limited in practice Friday.

Gerald Hayes’ back injury probably keeps him out of the lineup again this week. Ali Highsmith will fill in on base downs.

Shawne Merriman didn’t practice all week and is questionable to play.

Joey Porter has reportedly been benched for inconsistent play. Matt Roth should see most of the snaps if he sits.

Gerald Alexander was limited all week and is questionable with a shoulder injury.

Kroy Biermann was added to the injury report with a neck injury on Friday and is listed questionable.

I want to see the funniest trades people have attempted in your league. I have a couple but my best is

Mike Vrabel and Ricky Williams for Justin Durrant and Ryan Grant

What makes it funny is Durrant is in the top 5 in scoring and he picked up vrabel waivers the day befor. Yes williams isn't bad but it is a Idp dynasty league and we start 11 defense so with williams retiring well makes him worthless.

Post up what ya got not what ya think no advice just want to here some funny trades.

Who's with me?" So far CC and I are in. Anyone else care to give it a ride?

I attached a Score sheet to assist.
Matt Shaughnessy to start?

There is a good chance he will. Greg Ellis hasn't practised since undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery last week.

In his last outing vs The Chargers Shaughnessy had a decent game with 5 tackles and a sack. Any thoughts on how he might do this week against the Chiefs?

Also any thoughts on Shaughnessy's long-term dynasty value? Greg Ellis will be 35 next year and likely gone.

He started week 8 (Week 9 bye) and had a good game. 7 solos/1 assist/1 sack. With Barton out for the season along with DQwell, is he a lock to start and what is expected? Also, anyone know anything else on him?

Jags defensive changes

Looks like they're going to use Eagles castoff Bryan Smith as the RDE starter.

QUOTE

Bryan Smith, cut by the Eagles following the preseason and signed by the Jaguars off the Rams’ practice squad in September, will get the starting nod at right defensive end this Sunday when the Jags face the New York Jets at Giants Stadium. Smith was elevated on Wednesday to the top spot at the premier pass-rush position on the Jaguars depth chart, following an impressive, 22-plays performance against the Kansas City Chiefs this past Sunday.

“I think I did well. I had three quarterback hits. I just got after it,” Smith said of his performance against the Chiefs, in which he split time with Quentin Groves, the starter at right defensive end as the Jaguars switched back to a 4-3 alignment following a seven-game experiment with the 3-4.

Smith was a star pass-rusher at McNeese State, where he had 31 career sacks. He was selected by the Eagles in the third round of the 2008 draft.

“If they’re looking for a hard-worker and a guy who gets after it, that’s what I do,” said Smith, who was informed of his promotion on Wednesday morning.

“They’ve been splitting time,” Del Rio said of Smith and Groves. “They’re both going to play. We’ll give (Smith) a little more exposure. We’ll see if he can take advantage of the opportunity.”

Smith worked out for the Patriots and Falcons prior to the 2008 draft. Both teams were interested in him as a linebacker; at 6-2, 250, Smith was considered to be a “tweener” prospect.

“I can do it all; run, pass, it doesn’t matter to me. “When the guy says hut, it’s all just football,” Smith said.

“He’s quick. He’s got natural pass-rush ability,” Del Rio added. “The thing that’s been lagging is our ability to sack the quarterback.”

http://www.jaguars.com/news/article.aspx?id=8409
