CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Houston receiver Andre Johnson sprained his knee during the fourth quarter of the Texans' 34-21 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, coach Gary Kubiak said.

Johnson injured his left knee after catching a 10-yard pass with 11:43 remaining. He was tackled by safety Chris Harris at the Carolina 22 and remained on the turf for several minutes.

He walked off the field under his own power, but could be seen limping on the sideline. He didn't return after trainers wrapped the knee in ice.

``We'll look at it when we get home, and it'll be day to day,'' Kubiak said.

==============================

I personally am counting on his production, this could be bad news. Any homers hear more?

AJ has had injury problems in the past. Remember when he missed 5 games with a strained calf muscle? Compounded by the fact that they would list him as active, he'd line up on the first set and then sit on the sidelines ........

Saw the injury , and it is hard to say. AJ looked OK on sidelines and trainers did not seem to concerned. The Texans had game in hand and that is why AJ did not come back in, so I don't think we can look to much into that. The fact that there is swelling scares me, but we shall see. We can only wait, but my gut says he is OK, we shall see

I didn't read a thing about swelling. I've only read that they iced it.If I bang my knee hard, I'll put ice on it just in case (plus it feels a whole lot better) but it doesn't mean that I won't be fine the next day.

Try not to over-react here.

The story is (so far): Guy went down hard, got up slow, limped around, iced his knee.

Let's not write his obituary just yet.

Let's keep it classy guys.

Andre was shown briefly on the sidelines and was favoring the knee trying to walk it off. I think they described it as cramps during the game. We'll have to see once they run some tests.

Per ROTOWORLDAndre Johnson's knee injury is being called a sprained PCL.But Yes, as usual it'll be Tues or Wed before the real injury is known

All the news wasn't good, though. Receiver Andre Johnson, who had seven catches for 120 yards and two touchdowns, suffered a sprained posterior cruciate ligament in his knee. He was limping after the game and will undergo an MRI today to determine how long he'll be out, if he's out at all.

I really hope that AJ is ok as I have him in two leagues. But I have Jacoby Jones in 4 leagues. Does he become the #1?

I hope not, he caught as many passes today as his grandmother. I have him, but with one target I'm starting to think he's a special teamer...

So maybe Lee Evans will actually be able to outscore AJ next week?Yeah I picked Evans over AJ :ptts:
did the same thing in one league. What's worse is that in the Survivor league he's my main WR. After him I have Berrian, Crayton, and a big pile of crap. If he goes down I'm pretty much out of it....

I hate the word "sprained knee" I had Duece Mc a couple of years ago when he spained his knee.

You sprain ankles..not knees.

Please chill on all sides. Let's see how this plays out and we'll keep our fingers crossed for the best.J
Exactly. There hasnt even been x-rays if needed, and everyone that has him, is sending for take out. Relax people, freak out when they say he is out for the season.

Who moves into the #1 slot if Dre is down?
It would look very much like some of the WR messes in Minn, Jax and Tenn. The players would be Jacoby Jones, Kevin Walter, Andre Davis, and Mathis. None of those guys have established themselves as a legitimate NFL WR2 (much less a WR1), although the long term prospects of Jacoby Jones are the brightest.

You mean the same Crayton that had zero catches this week for zero yards and zero TDs? Or his Stud twin who had 3 receptions for 51 yards in Week 1 (and thus, on the season)? In other words, please add Crayton to your list of players in the Crap Pile.

Oh, I would agree with that. Berrian and Crayton were the only guys whose names I could remember. I spent a ton on RB's (Addai, Rudi, Lamont, and Deshaun) meant that I could only afford a single solid WR. The rest are pretty much crap. Berrian has been doing pretty well considering they are supposed to be a run first team....

I have Jacoby and Daniels. Gotta figure at least one of them would pick up a lot of the slack. :goodposting: I don't NEED Jacoby in my lineup, however. And I enjoy watching A.J. play the game. Hopefully everything turns out okay.

For people down on Jacoby Jones because of this week's non production, hold tight, its one week and its still extremely early in his career. He should be kept where roster spots warrant, esp. if A.Johnosn is hobbled. Last year at this time i made a huge mistake and let go of RB Maurice Jones Drew who i had taken in round 15 of a redraft, all because he looked like a rookie wash out in the first two weeks.

On veteran teams, the talent rises slowly sometimes--- but it eventually can in a big way.

Daniels would see more tarents, but how much more he is able to do with them when he arguably would be best pass catcher on the field remains is question. I think it is possible Jacoby Jones plays well at points this season, but expecting him and needing him to do so are very different ideas.

The Texans will find out Monday if an MRI on Andre Johnson's left knee shows any serious damage.Johnson said he strained his posterior cruciate ligament and will be day-to-day heading into the big matchup with the Indianapolis Colts at Reliant Stadium on Sunday.

"I'm a guy who never has injuries," said Johnson, who has started 63 of 66 games in his career. "To have Indianapolis coming in next week, that's a game you don't want to miss. I'm going to take it one day at a time and do what I need to do to get myself ready."

****

Is Jacoby Jones getting much playing time ???? Is he still starting ? Basically, it looks like Schaub is playing well, but Jones has been a non-factor.

Jacoby Jones and Kevin walter are playing WR2a and 2b. Walter is technically the starter, but those guys play about the same number snaps. More of a case where Johnson has been as good as anyone in the league for two games and Daniels is solid underneath. Also, in the 2nd half of both games, the Texans have taken the air out of the ball in late 3rd/4th quarter. Less than 30 pass attempts both games so far.

any updates ??
Latest NewsCBSSports.comThe Houston Chronicle reports Monday that an MRI on Andre Johnson's right knee confirms a sprain and that he's not expected to play when the 2-0 Texans meet the 2-0 Colts in Houston next week. "I would say that he is doubtful for that football game," coach Gary Kubiak said. "We'll know more in the next couple of days. There was no swelling, but there's definitely a sprain there. It's a concern right now. ... We feel fortunate. Andre is going to be fine. Is he going to be fine in one week? Or is he going to be fine in four weeks? We're still in the evaluation stage. We don't know."(Updated 09/17/2007).FANTASY ANALYSISThe paper added that Andre Davis would be activated if Johnson missed the game, but the Texans would likely start Kevin Walter and rookie Jacoby Jones, with TE Owen Daniels working to help replace Johnson's production. Of Matt Schaub's 452 pass yards through two games, Johnson has caught for 262 of them. If you own Johnson, make sure you follow his status this week, but expect to be without him for Week 3 Fantasy action.

Monday they said it was just a sprain and they would let the reporters talk to the team doctor , since then zero.

Texans homer have you read or heard anymore ( Like the MRI report or something )

They immobilized until today (Wed), and they'll re-evaluate. Let's keep our fingers crossed. Let's hope the time frame is simillar to Eli's..went from a month to no missed time.

This is the last update that I have seen.

Sep. 17 - 6:25 pm et

Andre Johnson will wear a brace on his sprained knee until he's reevaluated by the Texans' medical staff on Wednesday.

Johnson, who coach Gary Kubiak called doubtful for Week 3, is expected to get a more clear idea of his timetable to return when he's reevaluated. He'll be immobilized until then. Team doctors are optimistic about the injury, but say Johnson "would be questionable or doubtful for this week."

I personally hope they keep him out for a week. Don't want him to rush back and cause further injury.

I'm surprised there hasn't been a single update on his progress. No word on how he's feeling, whether or not he's practiced, etc. Anyone with any new information?

Just keep in mind other players this year with knee "sprains"---Travis Henry, Brandon Jacobs. They missed more than 2-3 weeks. Of course the severity may differ, and they are RBs, but I would expect he'll be out a few weeks. I hope I'm wrong!

Son, he was hurt three days ago. Injuries take time to heal. There isn't a press conference everyday. There isn't news every day. Just accept the fact that he won't be playing this weekend.

Kubiak has a "14 point" rule, granting the team Monday and Tuesday off if they win by 14 points or more. They were basically in "run-out-the-clock" mode for much of the 4th quarter so he gave them Monday and Tuesday off despite only winning by 13; hence the lack of information on AJ practicing. It has been posted several times that he will be reevaluated Wednesday.

I didn't know about this. Talk about a *bonus*!
