Morlon Greenwood ... (1 Viewer)

This is the third week in a row I've somehow forgotten to put him in my RTD column and the podcast outline.

I've never had a high opinion of Greenwood and I think there are two major factors in his disappearance this year. First, he's losing snaps to Shawn Barber in the nickel. Second, the Texans defense is vastly improved over where it was two seasons ago. They've faced the seventh fewest total offensive snaps through two games.

Both of those things may change, though, as Barber is as injury prone as they come and the Texan defense probably won't sustain its early run.

I suspected as much. but how can the totals be this bad ...Sadly, I rely on Greenwood and some other pretty sorry LBs in some 16 team leagues ... and this one has me stymied ...

The last two game reviews have not been totally unkind on the Hou MB ... yet, here we are ...

i placed greenwood on waivers, and i dont expect anyone to pick him up even tho he's on the cheapest contract possible.

Jene is accurate (no surprise). I was talking to another Texans fan last night as to how happy we were that Greenwood is being limited. He is a mediocore player, who from a fantasy perspective relied on the Texans defense facing a ton of snaps (see Sharper, wong and Foreman from the past several years). As for the Texans maintaining, they have a post colts 4 week run of Falcons, Dolphins, Jags, and Titans, so that potentially bodes well for the overall team defense(hint for your non-IDP leagues), but limit the opportunity for Greenwood to score worth a flip.

That is sort of a misnomer. The Texans ranked 23rd last year in plays from scrimmage(defense).Rank by year:

2006: 23rd (986 plays) Greenwood: 83/26 (Played WLB), Ryans 125/30

2005: 12th (1012 plays) Greenwood: 82/30(Played ILB)

2004: 25th (971 plays) Sharper: 103/36, Foreman: 57/22(11games)

2003: 6th (1054 plays) Sharper: 124/42, Foreman: 103/33

2002: 8th (1056 plays) Sharper: 104/33, Foreman: 111/32

Not really sure what this says other then you don't have to have a ton of defensive plays to rack up statistics.

Interesting stats, but not convinced they prove the argument either direction. There are variables to consider such player position, defensive scheme, and type of plays (run versus pass). I think singularly focusing on any of these singular variables can lead to false conclusions. The stats don't also, show more specifically how many plays the specific players were on the field. That said, in your favor, it would not be the first time that intuitive thought, and actual statistics don't match up.

fwiwthe following is th number of running plays:YR/Rank/Plays06/20th 44605/4th 50604/26th 41703/3rd 53302/1st 509There is a huge difference in running plays against from 2002 vs 2004 yet Sharper had almost identical stats but in 2003 Sharper had a phenomenal season and faced the most rushing plays of that 3 year period.Considering that Greenwood played two different positions it is hard to compare his numbers.
