There I said it. I dont know if its a gut feeling. It might be the very good OLine. The "new" running the ball down your throats mentality of the Giants. The fact that Shockey is gone and a better blocking TE is in place. The way Jacobs ran the ball in the 2nd half last year was like a man possessed. Everyone's worried about Ward & Bradshaw stealing a ton of carries but Im not too worried. The amount of carries this team will get will be high enough for Jacobs to get about 15 carries a game. This will also keep him fresher than last year. I wouldnt be suprised if hes a big part of the passing game either. They are going to set up a lot of screens for him. Also, Droughns left so Jacobs pretty much has to be the goalline back this year.

I know the guy gets dinged up a bit but Im gonna say this guy has a possibilty to put up top 5 #s and Id say hes a lock for top 10. I pray he falls to me in the 3rd round.

I think Jacobs can do well this year also. Thought i read somewhere the Giants have a tough run schedule?

Oh, and Droughns got 4 carries last night.

The setup has bust written all over it. Two carries for 27 yards in the First Preseason game and your going ga ga. Jacobs is indeed a beast when fully healthy, at 265 lbs that wont be for very long. He will never bust into the top ten for fantasy purposes over the entire season unless those stats were complied over a three week period. He's good, he's fast and he is a monster, too much talent at RB on that Giants Roster to think that Jacobs can retain his value the entire season.[Disclaimer] I am indeed a Ward and Bradshaw owner and specifically traded Jacobs away for a ton of value last year, so it taints my view of Jacobs a bit.
 
But doesn't drafting Jacobs and handcuffing him with Bradshaw pretty much ensure you solid production from the RB spot for the year?

Jacobs is a superior talent compared to Ward and Bradshaw and when he does play, it will be just like last year. He will produce.

Giants to use running back by committee

New York Giants running backs coach Jerald Ingram said the team will use a running back by committee as best they can to try and keep players healthy and other teams off balance. Ingram said all the running backs have something to give because they all contribute in their own way. He said the game plan in trying to figure out what they can do depends on who they are playing. Offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride said the player who has the hot hand and is ready to play will earn the carries. Ingram said they are not worried about who starts because the opportunities will be there. They want to keep a good balance and keep players as fresh as possible.

Jacobs opportunity to be the main guy was last year. He was unsuccessful, as evidenced by the following: he led the team in dropped passes, he lost his GL duties to Droughns, he lacked the toughness to play with any kind of discomfort, and was drastically outperformed by Bradshaw in the playoffs. All of these reasons are why the Giants didn't sign Jacobs to a new contract in the off season and they are using a committee approach this year. Jacobs already had his chance, and he blew it.

You know what they say, DYODD. :)No idea if he'll get playing time, but he's there. Had 2 or 3 receptions last night. I think he fumbled, too. (I was trying to watch three games. :D )
 
The man's a beast but unfortunately there's no way this guy can stay healthy. The only way to tackle 265 lbs is to hit 'em low, and Jacobs is just too long in the legs to avoid knee injuries. Obviously the Giants feel the same way, hence splitting the load three (3) ways...

Not sure where you get this from. Bradshaw outplayed Jacobs in every aspect of the game from week 17 though the Super Bowl.

Places where Bradshaw did not outplay Jacobs from week 17 through the Super Bowl.1) Total TDs.

2) Yardage in half those games (weeks 19, 20).

3) Every nameable statistical category in week 17.

I believe Bradshaw gets a piece of this pie, for sure, but Jacobs is a monster when he plays. The fact that he's got a low 40's ADP right now makes him a target for me in every league. If I can get RB1 production out of a 4th round guy for even 5-6 weeks then I'm pretty happy.

 
Jacobs is going the the late 2nd/early 3rd of some mocks I've seen. That's too early unless it's TD-only. He's not going to be a 20-carry-a-game, 16-games-a-year workhorse. Late 3rd is the absolute earliest I'd take him, and only then if lineup requirements encouraged stockpiling RBs. I'd be more comfortable with him in the 4th or 5th.

 
It's much to early to be comparing Bradshaw to Westbrook in any meaningful way. It seems pretty clear that Jacobs is the #1 RB for the Giants and Ward and Bradshaw are fighting for time on the field. This will be a fun one to watch play out.

As a Giants fan, I hear what you are saying, but it's nothing but wishful thinking..he's too big and too injury prone to survive a full season's worth of work...he got just 202 carries last year, he'll be lucky to get that amount again,with a 3-headed monster at the RB position in NY...

Its hard to ignore the fact when playoff games were on the line last year, we saw more from Bradshaw than Jacobs.

I really find it hard to believe they'll use 3 RBs no matter what they say. The way I see it Jacobs gets 15, Bradshaw 8-10, Ward 3-5. This team is gonna run a TON this year.
 
During the regular season, with the exception of the 1st game when he left in the 1st qtr, Jacobs started in 10 games and got 20+ carries in 6 of those games. In another, he had 18 carries.

Out of those 7 games, Jacobs broke 100 yds rushing in 5 of those 7 and hit 95 yds in a 6th. He finished the year with over 1000 yds despite missing time on only 200 carries. The guy is effective and the guy is the starter.

I'm not in the business of predicting injuries. Let's give him 1 more year as a starter before we start throwing around the dreaded "IPL" (injury-prone label). But, as far as Ward and Bradshaw, they are both great BACKUPS for right now that will come in and spell him. But, Jacobs will be the primary ball carrier from the bunch as that's what the Giant's front office/coaching staff has said.

:thumbup: Shockey was a pretty damn good blocker. Best blocking/catching combo in the NFL when healthy. If not the best then top 3 at the worst.Boss still needs to work on his blocking skills, though he looked pretty good going over the middle last night.Boss/Bradshaw/Ward looked very good last night, but that new kid Ware looked pretty damn good too. Watch for Droughns to be cut!

This is where I strongly disagree. I dont really feel like getting into a whole debate. I just wanted to make my thoughts on Jacobs known and if Im wrong Ill eat my crow.

Close to as many touches as Jacobs? So, despite what happened in the playoffs, why wouldn't the coaching staff say what you're saying? Why would they say that Jacobs is still the main ball carrier if they meant to bring in Bradshaw and do an almost even split? Maybe it was Bradshaw's AMAZING 208 rushing yds on 48 carries for 4.3 ypc that will put Jacobs on the bench. I mean, it's not as if the guy came in and lit the world on fire. Yes, he looked good on the field and yes, he performed better than Jacobs statistically in terms of YPC while out there for those 4 games, but it usually takes a little bit more than that to displace a starting RB, especially when that starting RB was much more effective during the season over more than twice as many games. Of note, in 2 of those 4 playoff games Bradshaw was in, he didn't even hit 4.0 ypc. Again, admittedly better than Jacobs, but nowhere near earth-shattering or enough to say "Man, we need to get this guy on the field and QUICK".

I'll trust the NYG coaching staff and their endorsement that Jacobs is the starter over the wishful thinking of most Bradshaw owners here.

:mellow: More importantly, five of the six games where Jacobs had 20+ carries, Ward did not play due to injury. The only reason Jacobs had the high number of carries in those games was due to Ward being hurt. As soon as NYG realized they could rely on Bradshaw late in the season, it was a full scale RBBC.

Now both Ward and Bradshaw are healthy and the Coaches are saying all three will be used, and that the one playing the best will get the workload.

It's not like its the media speculating things here. The Giants have already said its a full blown RBBC which will change from week to week based on match-ups and performance.

Where are you getting this info?Here are some things i have read over the past week or two about it.

Offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride says the Giants will "ride the hot hand" this season when choosing which tailback to feature in a given week.

"Each of them (Brandon Jacobs/Ahmad Bradshaw/Derrick Ward) has their strengths and areas that you like to take advantage of," Gilbride says. "They really serve as a nice complement to each other." Expect Jacobs to start when he's healthy, but Bradshaw and Ward to be mixed in quite a bit. Jacobs should get all goal-line carries. Reuben Droughns could easily be cut.

Ahmad Bradshaw, Brandon Jacobs, and Derrick Ward all saw about equal reps with the Giants' first-team offense during Friday's practice.

The Giants say they'll ride the "hot hand" this year and have opened this job to competition. While we fully expect Jacobs to win, it's pretty clear that a committee is possible. A Bradshaw-Jacobs combo may be on the horizon

Out of those 7 games, Jacobs broke 100 yds rushing in 5 of those 7 and hit 95 yds in a 6th. He finished the year with over 1000 yds despite missing time on only 200 carries. The guy is effective and the guy is the starter.

I'm not in the business of predicting injuries. Let's give him 1 more year as a starter before we start throwing around the dreaded "IPL" (injury-prone label). But, as far as Ward and Bradshaw, they are both great BACKUPS for right now that will come in and spell him. But, Jacobs will be the primary ball carrier from the bunch as that's what the Giant's front office/coaching staff has said.

Again Jacobs was healthy in the playoffs, and Bradshaw had almost as many touches, and was more effective with the touches he had. Bradshaw is more than a backup, he will see at least close to as many touches as Jacobs this year.

Close to as many touches as Jacobs? So, despite what happened in the playoffs, why wouldn't the coaching staff say what you're saying? Why would they say that Jacobs is still the main ball carrier if they meant to bring in Bradshaw and do an almost even split? Maybe it was Bradshaw's AMAZING 208 rushing yds on 48 carries for 4.3 ypc that will put Jacobs on the bench. I mean, it's not as if the guy came in and lit the world on fire. Yes, he looked good on the field and yes, he performed better than Jacobs statistically in terms of YPC while out there for those 4 games, but it usually takes a little bit more than that to displace a starting RB, especially when that starting RB was much more effective during the season over more than twice as many games. Of note, in 2 of those 4 playoff games Bradshaw was in, he didn't even hit 4.0 ypc. Again, admittedly better than Jacobs, but nowhere near earth-shattering or enough to say "Man, we need to get this guy on the field and QUICK".

I'll trust the NYG coaching staff and their endorsement that Jacobs is the starter over the wishful thinking of most Bradshaw owners here.

Where are you getting this info?Here are some things i have read over the past week or two about it.

Offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride says the Giants will "ride the hot hand" this season when choosing which tailback to feature in a given week.

"Each of them (Brandon Jacobs/Ahmad Bradshaw/Derrick Ward) has their strengths and areas that you like to take advantage of," Gilbride says. "They really serve as a nice complement to each other." Expect Jacobs to start when he's healthy, but Bradshaw and Ward to be mixed in quite a bit. Jacobs should get all goal-line carries. Reuben Droughns could easily be cut.

Ahmad Bradshaw, Brandon Jacobs, and Derrick Ward all saw about equal reps with the Giants' first-team offense during Friday's practice.

The Giants say they'll ride the "hot hand" this year and have opened this job to competition. While we fully expect Jacobs to win, it's pretty clear that a committee is possible. A Bradshaw-Jacobs combo may be on the horizon
