Why would LJ not start...I would go MOP on ole Hermy for pulling this if I was LJ...and if it's Herm's way of punishing him for not being at all of training camp, I might be inclined to ask the coach if he would like to count out my new bonus check in 1s or 5s.

KC to go 4-12 or worse this season.

Herm is a clown. He will not only play LJ more the minute they start losing but he will burn LJ out and get him injured pushing him early when he isn't ready.

Just now heard on the radio that LJ will NOT start...Keep your ears open on this one

Per CBSSports:

Larry Johnson, RB KC

News: The Kansas City Star reports that Chiefs coach Herman Edwards is sticking to his plan to limit Larry Johnson's reps, particularly at the beginning of the season, starting Week 1 at Houston. "He's going to be on a little bit of a leash early," Edwards said. "He has to get his legs underneath him. Michael Bennett is healthy, and that's good. It gives us another runner. It's not all on LJ. ... He'll be fine the first two weeks because he knows he can't do (too much). We're protecting Larry. ... But the kind of guy he is, after Week 4, I know he's going to come up to me and say, 'I can carry it a few more times if you need me to.' Now it's 25 (times) and now it's 30 (times). Then I'm answering the question all over again: Are you giving him the ball too much?"

Analysis: We expect Johnson to get around 20 carries and four receptions against a Texans defense that has potential to limit the run but shouldn't clamp down on the All-Pro running back. Despite his limited reps, we still feel like Johnson is worth starting in all leagues as a No. 1 RB this week (you didn't draft him to bench him, did you?).

He will only get 2 touchdowns instead of 3 or 4.
 :excited: always start your studs. i can already see the dozens of threads on monday whining about how people started lendale white over larry johnson since LJ was said to be "limited".even limited LJ is a lock for at least 15 points.don't overthink the room. play your best players.

You may have missed the original unedited post which was a straight up WDIS post...

No, I noticed...that's why my stock response is not to try and be clever or rude, I just post the Shark Pool disclaimer...doesn't really seem to make any difference, but allows me to delude myself into thinking I'm helping...Carry on with the new and improved LJ thread...

Was said by whom exactly? Some schmoe sports talk show host?

So...start him, or sit him? :blackdot:
Play! This is what I heard from the owner on Sirius. After he signed the contract they thought he go work out or warm up. Instead, Larry ran onto the field and started running with the first team.Jets- When Curtis Martin got a high ankle sprain (Lamont Jordan was still with the team), even though he was hurt and not as good as Jordan would have been due to the injury, C. Martin talked Herm into letting him play game after game after game.Based on these two incidents, IMO, Larry ain't coming off the field.

It's a fine line. Posts specific to your team and your situation go into Assistant Coach. Posts that have a broader appeal and deal more with players in general stay here. What Larry Johnson will do Sunday is absolutely a Shark Pool type thread.J

Ok, but where in that link does it say anything about LJ not starting?

I will be benching LJ this week. Im ok with it because I can start Maroney in his place  . Kind of eases my decision for this week actually.

Well, I can start ADP or Driver, but starting LJ just seems to make so much more sense :goodposting:

I don't see any case where he gets less than 18 carries, and even then, that should be good for at least 80 and 1 TD

If Herm wanted to make sure he's got his legs, wouldn't he have tested that somewhat in the last preseason game?

LJ's schedule look somewhat bleak for awhile, so Houston ain't no prob for me!

I was toying with the idea of starting Deuce over LJ. Glad I didn't make that decision. Now I'm toying with starting Travis Henry over LJ. But, I'll probably leave him in there. I like the presser link that was posted.

Look guys, Herm Edwards can talk all he wants about limiting LJs touches but the bottom line is that he is paid to win football games. With limited talent on offense and a conservative game plan(as usual) LJ will get a ton of work in each in every game this season. Now, any RB with 400+ carries the previous season will no doubt get less work the following year, but LJ remains the premier player in this offense with TG coming in 2nd. If you own LJ I suggest you never worry about whether to start him or not but rather worry about games vs. teams like the Texans where if the Chiefs get up quickly by a fair amount(2 scores say).Because then sitting down LJ for Bennett or Smith becomes an option for Edwards.

;) Finally someone who can read through the pre-season BS like I can

LJ will get between 16-20 carries and 2-4 receptions on Sunday. Herm will not limit him anymore than that, he can't help himself.

Now, occasionally games develop in strange ways and the bell cow ends up with far fewer touches than originally anticipated, and that could happen this week with LJ (as it could happen with any other feature this week or any other week.) If that happens it's just they way the game unfolded and not a product of Herm pulling in the reigns. LJ gets 20 touches in week one barring abnormal circumstances.

I will be shocked if LJ has fewer than 20 carries. Also, people forget Herm said he would be more involved in the passing game this year.

He is a must start this week. He will put up well over 100 total yards and a couple of TD's against Houston.

Herm edward tried and damn near broke Curtis Martin and Ran his butt into the ground, I dont see him changing. He took the Jets from Mediocre to terrible, but he ran, ran, ran, So I see the same thing for the Cheifs and LJ, RUN, RUN, RUN. I dont know how LJ will do this year, I do know that Herm will try like hell to break him. It would not shock me to see Herm Edwards feed the ball to LJ 400-500 times. Now at 2.9 yards a carry that still adds up to 1160 yds to 1450 yards. Just Kidding, I would start him unless your two starting backs are LT, Jackson or Gore. I mean what the hell else are the Cheifs going to do, throw the ball? and to whom Gonzo, just double cover Gonz and you have taken away thier passing game. I mean thats it right, unless Bowe is ready to be ROY. START HIM - START HIM-START HIM....................Thier playing Houston for Christ Sake.

Guess I'm one of the only ones who thinks LJ will underperform this weekend (for him).

His conditioning doesn't bother me (and as a side note, people see this as the reason LJ and Portis will get limited carries, but not for LT and SJax. Either preseason conditions you or it doesn't).

KC's air attack bothers me a bit.

Their DF bothers me a bit more.

And their OL outright scares me.

LJ can overcome these things anyway, but not in week one with the potential to split carries and no 'legs' under him.

KC will be behind in this tilt. The combined RB's aren't getting 25 carries. I'm guessing LJ gets 70 yards and maybe a TD. Still worth starting but don't bet your week on him.

Note: LJ will end with more carries than Bennett. I can't believe he is not the starter.

There is a BIG difference in the situations of LT and S Jax, Portis, and LJ. LT and S Jax have practiced regularly. Portis has not, he has been hurt. LJ was late getting to camp. Practice gets them into football shape. LJ and Portis are probably not all the way there, but they are fairly close.

-- L.J. Doesn't Want to Come Out of the Game --

Sat Sep 8, 2007 --from FFMastermind.com

The Kansas City Star interviewed Chiefs RB Larry Johnson. He says he feels great and has fresh legs. Johnson also said it will be tough for him to come out of the game for a few plays just to rest since he gets so focused on the game.
