Jets training camp broke today, and I attended. First. some backup info. TJ's agent, Rosenhause (sp?) violated team rules when he came out with some comments on Jones' injury last week. In short, word was Jones had an achilles strain, which led to a calf strain in the same leg. I won't bother to go get links for that info, it's been around enough. Mangini was reportedly livid over the leak.

What I will say is that I saw Jones today at Jets TC, and from my amatuer perspective, I am not optomistic on his chances of being ready to play in week one, although some beat reporters have said their sources say he will be. He is not jogging, he isn't doing anything that requires him to push off in a foward direction. He was working one on one with a trainer, and doing some rehab type of work, things like high stepping in place and lateral movement stuff.... nothing that would work the calf or achilles at all. Thigh and isolated groin and hamstring stuff exclusively.

I'm no injury expert, but I don't see how he can get from where he was today to game shape by week 1. I'm also concerned about the long term prospects of any potential re-injury down the road, again with the caveat that I'm no phys therapy guru by any stretch.

Take it for what ever you think it's worth, but if I draft Jnes this year it will be with the expectation he will miss two weeks, and could be hampered much longer than that. Before anyone goes off.... I am calling this specualtion on my part, but my TC observations are solid. Make up your own mind, and don't shoot the messanger, although I do call this the "duck pond" and not the shark pool these days.

 thank you for taking the time to share your observations

Thanks Rovers. The Washington owner will be watching closely. I think I'm more comfortable with Leon sharing for now though.

:hifive: :lmao: for Fantasy players. ;) for Jets fans. It's gonna be a long season. I can see it now. Thanks Rovers!
:own3d: Good stuff Rovers....A lot of things scare me as a Jet's fan this season.... From this info you just look at the schedule, especially the start with New England and the Ravens..... Those games are potential disaster matchups right now.....The OL is way too thin - lose 1 player at Center or LT and it's all over like 2005.Front office did a horrible job this year with the Kendall mess, filling that hole if he leaves as well as getting depth for the OL in a draft that was loaded with OL talent.....All we have to lean on is that the Mangenius comes up with something......

*** UPDATE Kendall to be traded

TRADE

VERY thin Offensive Line....

Kendall got his wish and forced the issue.....

The Pete Kendall soap opera is over.

The Jets are trading the disgruntled left guard to an undisclosed team, NFL sources told the Daily News last night. An announcement is expected this morning, assuming Kendall passes his physical with the new team.

This has been a difficult summer for both sides, but Kendall is getting his money and the Jets are getting rid of a headache.

Kendall will sign a new contract, and you can bet he will earn at least $2.7 million for the coming season. He was due to make $1.7 million from the Jets. He wanted a $1 million raise, but the Jets refused to renegotiate his contract, leading to months of acrimony.

It turned real ugly in June, when Kendall went public with his belief that the organization had reneged on a promise to renegotiate his contract. It prompted a verbal assault from Kendall, whose goal was annoy the team so much that it had no choice to unload him. In that case, he succeeded, but it took a lot longer than he envisioned.

The Jets removed a major distraction, but it also lost a quality offensive lineman. They appear content to let two unproven commodities, Adrien Clarke and rookie Jacob Bender, battle for Kendall’s left-guard spot.

Wow, if the Jets really trade Kendall, that would be really dumb. Can't wait to find out to which team. Miami needs guards badly, but I don't see them trading within the division.

Thx for the report! I watched Francesca interview Mangini on YES and you could see the fire in his eyes when asked about the "week-to-week" diagnosis. It stood out because Mangini was amazingly relaxed and "smiley" for the rest of the intervie. Don't now if he's just more comfortable in year two or jusy with Mike.

i really had high hopes for TJ....now i am a little worried.

he is a warrior. hope he gets out there soon.

thanks for the update.

The Redskins have reportedly acquired G Pete Kendall from the Jets in exchange for a fourth-round pick.Washington may be giving up too much for the 34-year-old, but the Redskins can undoubtedly use him. Their experiment with Todd Wade and Mike Pucillo at left guard has not been successful. Kendall's addition opposite Randy Thomas gives the 'Skins possibly the best guard tandem in the NFC East.

Mangold is so fun to watch. I'm not sure how much production/push they need from the G as this guy starts going to the probowl for a long long time. I don't think their G will need to be dominant

if true great job by tanny - 4th rder for a guy most wanted to cut weeks ago - plus keep him away from the Fins - hurts depth but there was no turning back with Pete.

I'm pretty sure that teams can't enforce the kind of rules that Mangini apparently thinks he has in place. He can't prevent players from talking with their agents, and they can't prevent agents from talking with other people. Besides, the NFL keeps pretending that they're going to crack down on teams not giving information on injuries but so far it doesn't seem like they've done much. IMO, the NFL should be looking into the Jets and Mangini to find out why players aren't allowed to talk about their injuries.

Sucks to lose Kendall because he is solid and you can never have too much depth on the O line, but to get a 4th rounder is a bit of a steal so as a Jets fan I am pretty happy with it. Plus, I trust the staff to know that Bender or Clarke will step in and doo a good job.

I second the motion to keep him away from Miami.

Thanks for the update. I did not read the rest of this thread, so sorry if honda. In my experience with sports medicine, any time the toe is pointed down on landing or when pushing off, weather it be from jogging, lateral movement, high stepping or just walking, that calf is being fired. The way I teach high stepping, there is a high amount of activity from the calf muscle. The key to watch for, Rovers, would be to check and see if his step on the injured leg is more "flat footed" than the other leg. This means less calf activity is being used in the step. IMO, there is a big difference in Achiles tendon strain and calf strain. The higher the strain is the muscle belly, the sooner the athlete will be able to come back and less likely for reinjury.

:goodposting: To give Rovers the chance to respond -- recall if TJ was pointing his toes while high-stepping?

For the Jets' sake I hope you're right because Adrien Clarke sucks.

Interesting, thanks for the info. It looked to me like Jones wasn't landing or pushing off with his toes at all. Even when high stepping, it looked like he came down flatfooted... which is why it drew my attention, it didn't look like a natural movement. He can walk with a very slight limp, so he is using the calf some. As for who might get extra carries if Jones isn't ready to start the season, that would be Danny Ware. He has clearly beaten Banks and Hollings for the #3 RB spot. Kendall had to go. He's been on the excersize bike the last few days with a shoulder, but his bike was placed well away from the others. Even on the field, he always stood by himself. Self imposed exile, doing all he could to be as big a distraction as possible. Kendall actually has a history as a malcontent. He's OK for a few years, then gets unhappy over something or other. He did this at Seattle, then Arizona, and now NY. Same thing with each team. IMO, at age 34, he is an average LG, but better than A Clarke or J Bender who have been taken the reps at LG this week. I'm more concerned about not having a backup center who can snap the ball in the shotgun. Wade Smith is a turnover waiting to happen, which was why Kendall was getting reps as a center. Bender may be a better run blocker that Kendall, his pass blocking needs work, but he's a rookie that they have been spending a lot of time with, trying to get him on a fast track to become a starter. So, if Bender wins the job, it's possible the Jets could have a somewhat improved ground game, but pass protection would take a hit. Bender is a huge powerful kid (6'6", 315) who was a tackle in college. Small school 6th round draft pick from Nicholls St.

Good for him. I thought he looked very decent in the last game.
