Who Does Champ Bailey Cover? (1 Viewer)

Bump

I was wondering the same thing. If Champ stays with Manningham, then I think Smith sees alot of looks in the slot and underneath plays. With Jacobs getting even more attention with Bradshaw out, I like Smith on the quick passes and maybe red zone targets. Just speculation, I dont know Denver DB assignments.... Anyone?

From NJ.com -

PLAYERS TO WATCH: On offense, WR Mario Manningham could be headed for a big game. He’s playing well and appears to have shaken off a shoulder injury that hampered him earlier this season and might have led to a few dropped passes. Thursday, he’ll probably see plenty of single coverage, as the Broncos turn CB Champ Bailey toward WR Steve Smith. (For those who don’t believe Smith when he says he’s drawing attention and double teams, take a look at the Falcons’ coverage of him near the goal line the other day. No way they were going to let him beat them.)

I'm currently starting Manningham in one league, but I certainly won't if Bailey is covering him. I know Denver is one of the worst teams in the league covering slot receivers (didn't they sign Ty Law?), so maybe Bailey will help out on Smith.

I really thought champ would cover Manningham. I was expecting a huge game from Smith, but guess not. Any bronco homers have any insight?

I did some player participation on the Broncos earlier this season when Bailey was just guarding whoever was on the left side, and then in his most recent game he followed Vincent Jackson. My guess is teams Smith as the number one (plus Nicks is taking more snaps away from Manningham) so if the Broncos go that route I'd expect Smith to be the guy. Wouldn't be surprised if the Broncos just give Bailey whoever lines up on one side, but then I've only watched one Broncos game in full recently.

vs SD the first time is the first time I've ever noticed Champ following any particular WR...typically he stays on the left side.I'm not sure Smith, Manningham, etc. are in VJax's class, so if I were to wager a guess, it would be Champ stays on the left side and doesn't follow anyone in particular.I'd also point out that Champ has been beaten before - he's good, but not "shut-down" good.
