Playoff tie-breaker between the Steelers and Chargers? (1 Viewer)

This could make a huge difference since it means the #4 seed would have to play NE in the Divisional Playoffs. The Chargers are a game back so obviously they need to finish 3-0 to have a shot and hope the Steelers lose a game.If that happens, the tie-breaker is:

Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games (only applicable with a minimum of 4 common opponents)
Against common opponents (NE, Den, Jax, Balt), the Chargers are 2-2 with another game against the Broncos coming up. The Steelers are 1-2 with games remaining against the Jags and Ravens. Should they happen to finish tied against common opponents at 2-3 or more likely 3-2:
Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
Right now they are both 7-3 in the AFC. The Chargers remaining AFC opponents are the Broncos and Raiders and the Steelers have the Jags and Ravens.Realistically, the best shot the Chargers have of getting the #3 seed is to win out and have the Jags upset the Steelers. If they get past the Jags, then the Steelers shouldn't have much trouble against the Rams and Ravens.

They could finish tied with 9-3 conference records if Pittsburgh loses to St. Louis. What's the next tiebreaker?

Here are the next tiebreakers:
# Strength of victory (winning percentage of opponents that were beaten)# Strength of schedule (winning percentage of all opponents played)# Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed. (That is, the "strength of victory" for all opponents from the same conference.)# Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed (That is, the "strength of victory" for all opponents.)# Best net points in common games# Best net points in all games# Best net touchdowns in all games# Coin flip.

Atthis point I am not worried too much about getting the #3 or #4 seed. I just want to win this week to clinch a playoff spot. It would also be very helpful if the Browns would lose to the Bills.

After week 15 games (both 9-5):

Against common opponents (NE, Den, Jax, Balt), the Chargers are 2-2 with another game against the Broncos coming up. The Steelers are 1-3 with games remaining against the Ravens.

The Chargers can lock up the #3 seed by beating the Broncos and Raiders.

After Pittsburgh's stellar offensive line play, you may want to also calculate tiebreakers with Cleveland.

Already did and the Chargers get the tie-breaker because of the common opponents (2-3 vs. 4-2).

You're all set then.San Diego gets the 3rd seed, Cleveland gets the 4th seed, and Jacksonville and Pittsburgh battle it out for the 5th seed.

Pittsburgh Tennessee is an interesting tiebreaker. From my projections it will go to Tennessee. Pittsburgh better win next week.

Because Tennessee has been so good over the past six weeks, that they are certain to win their last two games?

The Steelers win the division by beating the Ravens next week but need the Chargers to lose to either the Broncos or Raiders to get the #3 seed.

The Browns can win the division if they beat the Bengals and 49ers and the Steelers lose to the Ravens.

I hate to count any team out, but the Titans would need to win out and beat the Colts as well as get help from the Browns.

I expect the playoff seeding to end how it is right now:

1. Patriots

2. Colts

3. Chargers

4. Steelers

5. Jaguars

6. Browns
