Mike Hart....all the talk is about who will lead the colts these weeks while Addai is out...i think Brown and hart are both auditioning for not only next year, but for the rest of this year. Addai is a FA next year anyway, so we may very well have seen the last of him as the starter.

On paper the two have put up basically the same stats this year. Is there any chance that Indy goes with Hart, or is it clearly Donald Brown the feature back.

Brown should get first crack provided he's healthy enough, but I don't think it's a stretch to think that if Hart outplays him, he'll earn more playing time. Brown may have been a 1st rounder but I don't think that matters too much anymore.

Hart is underrated in this race. Lil guy wants it bad. He always had fire at Mich. Smallish and slow, but if he's healthy, the Colts offense will give him some nice holes to run through. Screens and draws are easy pickings with the respect Manning gets.

This is always true, but really, Hart has been pretty bad. I just don't see this happening. They could both suck, but I will be very surprised if Hart outplays a healthy Brown.

These last two games he has not looked bad, he lacks elite speed and he's small but he runs hard and he's smart. I could see him outplaying brown down the stretch

Has Hart sucked? I've watched he last two games and he hasn't sucked to me. Maybe I am missing something.

Reminds me of Maroney & BJGE in New England.

Based on his Michigan highlights on YouTube, he's quick to the hole, breaks some tackles and can catch the ball. He does get run down from behind on longer runs and he didn't run over anybody. He had a lot of second effort short TDs. He should've had a lot of practice at Michigan blocking for Henne.

I think it will be RBBC if both are healthy. People talk more about Brown because people are more invested in Brown.
People probably talk more about Brown because the Colts are more invested in him. There's a reason Indy chose Brown over Chris Wells, LeSean McCoy, and Shonne Greene, just like there was a reason they chose Edgerrin James over Ricky Williams. I think it's wise to be patient with Brown.

I'm a born U of M fan. Hart's success at Michigan is because he has heart.......and slow RB's can look good in the Big Ten. Hart's nothing but a backup in the Indy offense. Heart isn't enough in the NFL.

Lots of teams pass on players they shouldn't have.Brown could be good he just hasn't given us the opportunity to find out.

Draft position doesn't matter. The only thing that matter is who Peyton wants out there with him. I don't think any of us will know the answer to who that is until after the next game.

I wouldn't say that. He lacks elite physical tools yes. He does have other attributes. He has great vision, is very decisive in his cuts, always falls forward, he can block and he can catch. He isn't going to set the world on fire no, but I think he could actually be pretty useful in an offense like the Colts.

this is the point in the season - defenses are are a little more tired and a little more beat up -- where not having elite skills, but playing smart and hard could be a big asset.

If that's the case then Donald Brown could be great. He potentially has elite skills, he's very bright, and he may be the most well rested running back in the NFL right now.

I think its more because he's pretty talented. If he can stay healthy and pass protect...he's the guy.
Here's the key imo. How is Hart in pass protection, I know Brown has struggled with it at times.
This is the question. Whichever guy does the better job of keeping Manning upright will see the most carries. That's it. If Brown is twice the player Hart is, but gets Manning killed they will go with half the player and an upright Manning over Brown and risk Peyton getting injured. Simple as that.

i concur.

Addai is in a contract year- if he is not dead he will find a way to play

Colts will have to lean on running game due to injuries

hart is not a good rb but he might be a better pass blocker which is literaly all the colts care about so yea tough to say who will be the rb

For the record, I own Brown in half my leagues and Addai / Hart in none. I'm not a Brown hater, and would actually profit from Brown actually starting to produce.

I just giggle uncontrollably every time I see that clip. I'm pretty sure I gave myself an embolism watching the "Dammit Donald loop" which is one of the related YouTubes off that link. I'm not even really sure what Brown's assignment was on that play, I -assume- he was either supposed to help the LT, or screen out so Manning could dump off in the event that the LT got blown.

Brown's hands-up "Wha???" look is also really funny to me. Again, this is all independent of who was actually at fault on that play.

Brown did not practice today, is this a sign that he's still not healthy?

Non-participants in Monday's practice: RB Joseph Addai (shoulder), RB Donald Brown (hamstring), WR Pierre Garcon (undisclosed), WR Reggie Wayne (undisclosed), WR Austin Collie (thumb), TE Dallas Clark (wrist), S Bob Sanders (biceps)

Indy plays Monday night, so they might just be giving a few players an extra day off. On the other hand, it could be a sign he's not healthy. We'll have to see more during the week.

What are people thoughts on rostering Andre Brown??
He's the fourth string RB on his third team in two years. I know there are people here who think he has talent but until he plays and moves up the depth chart, I don't see the value.

Tell that to Peyton Hillis.

Any news on the Indy RB situation? Is Donald Brown back at practice?
Damn, need to know the answer on this one. Hart is sitting on my waiver wire.
Who would you need to drop to get Hart?
Don't want to turn this into an Assistant Coach thread, but I have both Bradshaw and Turner on BYE. So, I'm looking for a bye week filler. Will probably drop an end of bench guy like Demaryius Thomas who is currently my WR5 (my other receivers are White, BMW, Garcon, and Knox). The question really is not whether to drop Thomas, but who to pickup with my high priority waiver. I'd be grabbing Hart over alternatives like Gettis, Evans, and Ward.

I'm stuck holding Addai, Brown, and Hart until I hear further word. At this point I can't afford to lose a RB by having someone in my league pick one of them up.

"I'm not real sure," Caldwell said of Addai. "He's a guy whose tolerance for pain is unusual. He's one of those guys who can turn it around in a moment's notice and he's up and ready to go. It's kind of a day-to-day situation. If he doesn't go, obviously Mike Hart has to be the guy to step it up."
Looks like Hart is the guy this week...

Hillis has more than heart, he's built like a truck. Hart doesn't have that kind of build and without speed he's an average NFL RB at best IMO. He could have some success in Indy because Manning commands so much attention though.

On the infamous Donald Brown blocking clip, I think he was either supposed to release as an outlet receiver or block the RE, since the LE already had a Tackle and TE there to block him. There were several awful plays in his rookie season, notably a play in which he was supposed to chip the DE but instead blindsided the Tackle, giving the DE a free path to sack Peyton. It was bad, but by all accounts, Brown is a smart guy who works hard and isn't afraid of contact. Those guys tend to become good pass blockers over time, and I'm hoping the same happens for Brown. I think Brown will play as the feature back over Hart when he's healthy enough, but Monday night will probably be more of an even split due to the hamstring injury.

Hart looks to be in the process of proving that he belongs in the NFL, even though he's probably slower than most FB's. Somehow, he finds a way. Usually he plods around until somebody wraps him up, then he uses his incredible strength to pull out of the tackle and dive forward for another 3 yards. He does this so consistently that I think he could actually keep this offense on schedule enough to maintain most of its success. He's been cut by the Colts more times than I can count, but I think he has solidified himself as the long-term #3 RB now. Jarvarris James and Andre Brown will have to really show something to stick around on the active roster.

Colts RB Donald Brown (hamstring) expects to play Monday night against the Texans."If the game were today, I'd play," Brown assured Friday morning. He expects to push his nagging right hamstring by returning to practice Friday afternoon, and the Colts will practice again Saturday. With Joseph Addai (shoulder) expected to be held out, Brown stands a good chance of starting and splitting the workload with Mike Hart.
