David Carr. What exactly is his problem? (1 Viewer)

This guy was actually descent in college. Watching him, it seems like the problem he is having is with the O-Line. The problem in my opinion is NOT him. He is constantly scrambling for his life and making throws on the run, which in turn are bad throws and more often than not intercepted. David Carr is a pocket passer. I REALLY think what the Texans should have done with the first pick was to trade down and focus in on DeBrickashaw Fergusen. That would have been an immediate upgrade to their offensive line. If you watch the Texans, Carr is either sacked, or he dumps it off to his RB. There whole offense is run the ball, run the ball, dump off to the RB or someone close by. The person I feel sorry for the most is his WR Andre Johnson. This guy in my mind would be a top ten WR if he was on another team. I really think Carr could be a descent QB if he had any kind of OLINE. Thoughts??

The Texans have allowed the most sacks of any NFL team in 3 of the past 4 seasons. Last year, they surrendered 68 Sacks - CNNSI Blocking StatisticsCarr hasn't had the opportunity to develop his talents into top-notch NFL skills because he's been getting whacked around by opposing defenders on a very consistent basis.

my .02.

It isn't the OL as much as people would have you believe. Carr is simply indecisive. The biggest change from the college to pro game for a QB is how fast a decision must be made and how precise that decision must be delivered. Far too often Carr holds on until the last second and either forces it or gives up a sack.

Early on the line was horrendous, but it's improved each year. Carr is running out of excuses as to why he can't perform back there. Kubiak's been all over him in camp on his decision making. I remember seeing a quote from Kubiak to Carr one practice after Carr made a bad pass that was in the vein of, "Really? REALLY? You've been in the league 4 years and you make THAT throw?"

I'm a Texans fan and want to back Carr since he's our QB, but I'm growing tired of making any excuses for the guy. With each interception he laughs and he keeps getting bailed out by everyone strictly blaming our line. Yet, all preseason in comes Sage freaking Rosenfels who has plenty of time back there (the same as Carr if you watch closely) and is able to deliver competent throws.
