Fantasy Football Convention (1 Viewer)

One of the local sports radio stations, SportsRadio950 is sponsoring a Fantasy Football Convention in Cherry Hill, NJ on the 18th of August. The only way to get tickets is to win them from SR950.

Will FBG have any representation there? I know that there are some staff guys in the area. Seems like a great promotional opportunity.

LINK

Any FBG board members going? Are there any other FF conventions out there that people know about?

:bowtie: :whoosh: I entered to win tickets from them through their MVP club thingy. My buddy actually won a 4 pack but I don't think that he wants to go. He was going to give them to someone else but that person will be on vacation that week. I wouldn't mind going but there's no way I'm going by myself.

If there are FBGs in the area that want to go, I can talk to my buddy and see if I can get the tickets from him and meet up with the FBGs that want to go.

Nothing wrong with Swedesboro, I worked in Swedesboro for a number of years when Wicks Lumber was still there.

I'm interested, actually just signed up on the site to try and win tickets. I'm about an hour and a half away in PA but may take a drive down with my son and drop him off at my parents' in Delran for some quality grandparent time and free time for my wife. Let me know if you have an extra ticket. :lmao:

I'd be interested as well if you have an extra ticket - I also registed to try to win. I live fairly close (Willow Grove PA area).

I emailed my friend to find out if he still has the tickets and if he has planned on doing anything with them yet. I'll let everyone that has interest in going know when I find out anything.

Why?Is there a huge demand for tickets?

What will be the events? Talks from some guy who won his league once, people selling old draft mags? :hot:

I have no idea why they're controlling who comes to be honest. It doesn't seem like something where you'd have 10,000 wanting to show up. They haven't been all that helpful in what exactly will be there. "Talks from FF experts" "Giveaways" and a "Mock Draft" are about as specific as they've gotten.

It's one reason that I was wondering if FBG would have a presence there. Seems like something where they could come in and blow the doors off of everyone else there and get a nice in with another large market sports radio station.

I love fantasy football more than anyone but why on god's green earth would you ever go to a Convention for it? What and the heck can you possibly do or enjoy there? I'm absolutely addicted to fantasy football but just could not comprehend what a convention would have to offer a FF enthusiast nor why one would want to drive 1.5 hours to go to it? Is FF the new Star Trek??? God, I hope not but it's starting to appear that way. I might have to be more discreet when I mention that I play FF.

I just want to go to see who is exhibiting/speaking and hopefully get some freebies. Quite frankly, if the FF community was a little more innovative, the convention could be a lot more interesting. It just amazes me that there's really just one software app designed just for using a projector or tv as a draft board. There's still a lot more room for growth in the industry IMO and competitors showing off their different product offerings would make for a pretty decent convention.

I've been to the one in Detroit. Hosted by CBS Sportsline and a local sports station and held at a Buffalo Wild Wings.

They have a series of speakers, like a basic intro to ff and some guy from Sportsline shilling for his product. Also, some local beat writers/media types and former Lions have a round table to discuss the upcoming season. We also got Merril Hoge, who gave his opinions on the season from a fantasy perspective. Maybe another one or two of these type things that I am forgetting. All of them had Q&A time at the end, so you could get some questions answered if you wanted.

They set up and drafted a Sportsline league populated with people in attendance and briefly reviewed the draft.

Everyone got a goodie bag with a t-shirt, ff mag, some cheatsheets, coupons, etc. They drew raffle tickets for some more significant stuff throughout the day. IIRC, there was a big-screen TV as the main prize last year.

Overall, I'd say a decent way to spend an afternoon if you were nearby and didn't have much else going on. No real need to cancel plans or travel a long way.

There is one hosted by ESPN in Pittsburgh on Sunday Aug 26.John Clayton is the guest speaker.I may go.
He was guest speaker at the one I went to a couple years ago in Pittsburgh. Easily the most entertaining speaker of the day and he knows how to play to the crowd. He just went on and on about how bad the Browns were going to be that season. However as I said before the one I went to was pretty bad. I came out saying "Never again". Maybe they've gotten better though...
