Lions head coach Rod Marinelli said Monday that the soreness Kevin Jones is experiencing in his foot is not out of the ordinary, but wouldn't speculate whether Jones will play in Week 11.

Jones' surgically repaired foot routinely gets sore after games, but he hasn't been on the injury report since early in the season. If he plays, Jones has a difficult matchup against the Giants' ninth-ranked run defense in Week 11.

Jones said that he has been dealing with soreness since the surgery, and will continue to deal with it for the rest of the season. What is the suprise? He will play.

Lions cornerback Fernando Bryant suffered a foot sprain, not an ankle injury, in Sunday’s 31-21 loss at Arizona, coach Rod Marinelli said in his Monday news conference. Bryant was on crutches after the game, but the problem does not appear serious. Marinelli said Bryant was questionable for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.

Marinelli said quarterback Jon Kitna woke up with a sore lower back Monday, but Kitna said he felt fine and did not anticipate missing any practice time, let alone Sunday’s game.

Marinelli said running back Kevin Jones’ sore foot wasn’t any worse than it usually is the day after a game. Jones suffered a serious foot injury last season and has been managing his pain since.

Offensive lineman Jonathan Scott probably won’t play against the Giants. He suffered a broken thumb Nov. 4 against Denver, had surgery and did not play against the Cardinals. He is going back to see the surgeon, and Marinelli said he was 90% certain Scott would be out. That means George Foster, who has been struggling, will continue to start at right tackle.

Defensive end Dewayne White, who did not play against the Cardinals because of a triceps injury, might play against the Giants.

:shrug: Poof he's gone? Where did he go? I think bigger than the concern over this big no-story about the soreness we already knew about, is his upcoming schedule and that for the fantasy playoffs.It's a bit brutal wouldn't you say?

It's Scooby/H.K.'s schtick. Don't waste time asking questions. Hmm, maybe we should just call him ScHKooby to save time.
 
Nov 13 The Lions are considered holding Jones (foot) out of Sunday's game against the Giants in order to preserve him for the Thanksgiving Day contest against the Packers, MLive.com reports.

Recommendation: Jones has needed four or five days to let his foot fully recover after each game, and it complicates matters further that he had to leave Sunday's loss to Arizona twice because of soreness in his surgically-repaired left foot. With the Thanksgiving Day game, he'd be very doubtful to play next Thursday against Green Bay in the wake of a Sunday contest against the Giants. We'll see if this is something the Lions plan on following through with leading into Sunday, but Jones owners may want to scoop T.J. Duckett up off the waiver wire just to hedge their bets for the next two games.

If the Lions hold out KJ in one of the next two games, I think they should hold him out against the Packers instead of the Giants, despite the Packer game being within the division. They need a running game far more against the Giants because of their front four. If they bench Jones, they will probably throw a lot....and if you play a team that rushes the passer like the Giants do and don't have a running game, you are asking for trouble. I think the Giants game is huge, not just because of playoff implications, but because the Lions really need to show they can bounce back from the Arizona game. If they lose this week, especially a bad loss...they could begin to spiral downward.

I have to think KJ will miss or be limited in one of these 2 games because they are only 4 days apart.

I went to MLive.com. It just seems like speculation from MLive.com to me."LIONS NOTES

Jones banged up: Running back Kevin Jones suffered a slight left foot injury the same foot that was surgically repaired last December when he was tackled by a horse collar during the game. Jones didn't show any lingering affects from that tackle on Monday, but it does raise an interesting issue.

Because Jones has needed four or five days to recover after playing on Sundays because of soreness in his foot, it appears he might not be available when the Lions play the Packers just four days after playing the Giants.

If that's the case, it's possible the Lions will use T.J. Duckett more against the Giants and save Jones for the Packers game. Not only will that give Jones more time to get ready, but it gives him time to prepare for Detroit's following game against the Vikings in Minnesota. In that scenario, Jones would be healthy and available for both crucial NFC North battles.

Then again, with so much on the line in the Giants game (see above), the Lions might decide to ride the rapids with Jones as long as possible.

I agree, and it is the same news being repeated even though the team has since said that KJ is fine, the pain is normal, and he is expected to play as he has been.That being said, the shark move is to handcuff with Duckett now before KJ does have a serious injury. We can't forget that he does have a history of injuries.

Maybe I am missing something here, but it sounds as though even though the pain was normal after the game, the Lions are concerned about the short time in between the Week 11 and 12 contests. Therefore, even though Jones might not be any worse than he normally is since the injury, Duckett or someone else might get one of these two weeks to be the starter, which could be a valuable fill-in for those with a need. Also, it tells us how precarious Jones' overall situation is.

how come? he had to leave the game twice this past week.he was in apparent pain because why else would we be talking about itif it was normal pain then we should have known about this beforeKJ had a career threatening injury, my friend, nobody is overreacting.

Jones played most of the game. He was spelled like any normal RB might be. He was extremely instrumental in the passing game. Even when he went out because of soreness, he came back to catch more passes. No RB is going to play 100% of the game.As far as Detroit being concerned about the short time between games, I haven't seen a report where Detroit was the concerned. It seemed like speculation on the part of the media.KJ did have a career threatening injury. He said it is fully healed. However, there is soreness...not a re-aggravation. That is typical with any major injury such his. The overreaction is the belief that Jones is going back on the shelf. This simply isn't true. They can't afford to put him on the shelf. They afford to play him 80% of the game and spell him if he's sore.

Detroit Lions RB Kevin Jones (foot) practiced Wednesday, Nov. 14, and is expected to play Week 11.

 
Detroit News staffer Terry Foster reports that Kevin Jones' foot continues to be a concern. He might be a little sore on Thanksgiving against the Packers because of the short week following the Giants game. It takes time for Jones' surgically repaired foot to feel good enough for him to practice.

What if the Lions had a game this Thursday? Would Jones have been able to play?

"I would have to," he said. "You know I got to go. It's (Green Bay) a big game in the division. I am not going to do anything to hurt the team, but if I had to go today I would."

 
Just heard on WDFN that Jones said "I will play in both games" We have 4 days off after the Thanksgiving game, and 11 days until the game after that. Plenty of time for rest.

For whatever that is worth.

Not taking the risk... especially in light of last week's overall performance (though I imagine they will do everything in their power to establish some assemblance of a running game). I'm slotting (via flex position) a Hines Ward or Greg Jennings instead of KJ.

Won't kick myself if KJ does fine with a 80/2 and 35/0 , and my WR flex fill-in puts up a 2/18/0. Logic tells me that won't happen, but WRs can "shut down" while RBs (esp. KJ) can still get their work, even the going gets tough (see last weeks -4/1 and however much he caught the ball for 5/38'ish?).
