Free League Site (1 Viewer)

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, and if it has please link me to the correct thread and I will let this thread die...

But what is the best free league hosting site out there? It must have very customizable scoring. We are weighing the cost of going with MFL vs. the best free site.

We used Fleaflicker last year and hated it, considered ESPN and it will not accomodate our scoring, same with Yahoo.

Any recommendations?

This may not be the most helpful but stay the heck away from Yahoo. What a mess. It was as if they sat down and tried to devise the most user UNfriendly system possible. "Hey I know. What if we made them hold down three different keys while they stood on their head to be able to set their lineup? BRILLIANT!"

What a sad, unfunny joke that site is.

What is it about your scoring that makes ESPN unusable?

For me it stands like this:

Yahoo does not have an Auction Draft.

ESPN does not have blind bidding waivers.

That makes them both unusable. *sigh*

Fleaflicker promised blind bidding waivers for the upcoming season but they launched Fantasy Baseball and I'm not sure what their priorities are anymore.

The thing that is strange about our scoring is a player scoring a TD out of position (QB running, RB catching, WR running) gets double the points and it is also dependent on the length of the TD, neither Yahoo or ESPN seem to support this.

Im a Yahoo man myself, used it for many years and never had a problem with it. Used ESPN 1year and didnt fancy it too much.

espn is pretty sweet for a free site
I have used Yahoo for about 5 years...what's the advantage to ESPN?
Can you still pick up free agents after games start? I thought that was a terrible feature when I played there.
I think Yahoo gets a bad rap, plus immediately tags the poster as a newbie/guppie.I am accustomed to Yahoo, and run a Keeper league on it. After the season, I just dump the final rosters to a spreadsheet for the next year. I plan to do the same with a new Dynasty League I am starting this summer. I'll just track names/contracts on a spreadsheet and post it to our team site.I looked at a trial league MLS and it was so complicated, I could barely put in the scoring. I am sure once it's setup, it's nice. That's actually what I like about Yahoo. It's free, and we now have a history that is maintained on the site. The free Live Scoring for ESPN is appealing, since at least 1/2 the guys in the league get StatTracker. Since we pay $10/year for it, seems like doing an MLS league would make sense, but I just don't like the idea that I 'must' keep paying a site to maintain the league. Maybe I'd change my mind once I got the settings in.

yahoo new this year offers waivers as option with free leagues . options :

no waivers ( fa all the time first come first serve)

waivers sun - tues

waivers first game of the week - tues

ive always liked yahoo for the free leagues . and i avoid espn for any purpose . i have an ancient comp at home and it freezes half the time i go to espn . all the extra crap at the site . yahoo also was my first ever computer ff league so the format holds a sentimental spot in my football shaped heart .

That is a big improvement. Beyond waivers, I didn't have a problem with Yahoo, but the guys in my league preferred the ESPN interface. ESPN had a couple of years of problematic drafts as they grew and went free. We actually got converted into an autodraft one year last minute. And there were also problems with the Java version of the Live Draft application. But they seem to have worked things out. Still, I'd suggest anyone doing a live draft spend some time ranking players ahead of time just-in-case.

Regarding the blind waivers from espn - do them offline and have everyone email them into an email account that isnt checked until wed or thurs - commish needs to be super honest not to cheat.ESPN draft now can be paused/ stopped and picks undone if it freezes up on someone. Or draft offline at antsports...ESPN has come alongway. If you need super customization for cheap MFL is the way to go.Fanball is garbage, cbs is overpriced. Yahoo needs to update their free package to align with the offerings of ESPN or they will start to lose leagues..

I don't like the fact you have to pay for live scoring. Kinda defeats the whole idea of a "free" league site to me.

I have used Yahoo for 10 years, and have been very satisfied. If you want something simple, fun, and easy to learn I would recommend using Yahoo.

I find it odd that people bash Yahoo.

Thats the only way to go on the free site IMO.

But the drag and drop thing is kinda ugly, I go with the classic view

All you named are the Primary FREE ones...I dont know if this will help but look here: http://www.cosg.net/ff/

Fleaflicker seem will Never Update Important FF things anymore.Simple, Do Offsite/In-person Auction(Messageboard, Mock site such as Free Auction Mocking site (PM for link), whatever your Fancy.

Then, Do Offline Import on Yahoo

I agree (And Classic View is the way to Go) Yahoo Gets a very Bad Rap, and is Quite Useful and Amazing if you acutal check this page:

Note: About the UnFriendly Roster Management this year (Regarding Errors Messages), they Do a Internal Service UPDATE every FRIDAY (according to Yahoo), so the Bug Your Refering to (Yes I was experience it), is now fixed.

http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1/features

Only Downfall is $10 for Statracker/Live Scoring OR FREE for Your ENTIRE yahoo Id if your a Member of a PLUS Yahoo League (Yahoo pay league, Sometimes you can be a cheapo and other Commish pay for the entire Plus league)

For Free, Yahoo Is the way to go, and the Fee for Statracker is worth it if you have Multiple League Or You have had a Keeper/Dynasty/Annual League There for Several Years because of the Recorded League History. They constants make new improvements all the Time Every year including this year Free Mock Drafts THAT STAY PACKED! No other option Can you beat that for free.

If you must use do a Auction, Use Message Board, Free Auction Mocking Site (still in existence, PM for Info) and Use Offline Import. The New Waiver Options this Year is amazing and New Flex Positions. And Yahoo Improves their Free Product the Most each year.

There, My Preach Box ix Over, I had to get this OUT OF MY SYSTEM atleast Once this lifetime.

ONE bump only: Any other replies/thoughts on Free League Hosting? (Which any leagues of value to me, I use MFL.com)

I just recently came across www.ecouchcoach.com and would be interested in hearing feedback from anyone who is familiar with it.
I forgot about them (Heard of them). I havent used them but would like to hear feedback if there is anyone out there who has used it.

We used EA Sports Fantasy Football last year, and I liked it. However, I can't find a 2009 EA website. Does anyone know why they aren't doing Fantasy Football this year?

EA is usually pretty late at kicking off their fantasy site. Last year, I remember emailing them because our draft was two weeks away and the site was not live yet.

We've used EA for the past 3 years, but are switching to Yahoo this year because of the cleaner layout and easy navigation.

Completely disagree. Been using Yahoo with multiple teams for years. You do not get a ton of customization, but they have been very aggressive about adding features every year. Their scoring and StatTrackers have been good and never had any problems with downtime of the site.No idea what you mean about having to hold down multiple keys.

It is whatever you are used to that you will like the most. I love Yahoo and never have had an issue with it. I also played in an ESPN league and hated the format.

Free: Yahoo! It has all the features and no problems with draftroom. Other crash a lot.

Paid: MFL. Can do anything there.

Yahoo! Now has FREE Live Scoring, Blind Bidding on free agents, and League History. I am trying to get our League to switch from Fanball with all the problems they are having once again this season. Not quite all the bells and whistles of Fanball but between being free and the upgrades for this year, we actually wouldn't be losing much at all.

Bump for others looking for possible hosting sites. Yahoo has impressed me this year, for sure. With what they added this year, unless you have some really off-the-wall scoring, this should work for a lot of leagues. No reason to pay $90+/yr now!Search function here is my friend!

the guys in my league preferred the ESPN interface.
:) you're kidding-? their interface blows. I kept having to increase my screen size to read that tiny font and all the ads and other **** on there. I hated it and don't see that it offers anything yahoo doesn't anymore, if anything (besides auction drafts).it's kind of a bite to pay for MFL, but it's really not much per person and 100 times better than anything else, even if the waiver thing is confusing as hell and they refuse to fix it (pet peeve). in fact my biggest peeve is they improve VERY little year to year, it's been almost identical for many years now. they added some new skins. whee.

Seems like Yahoo is the better option now that they've added the live scoring for free.

Can you make the te spot ppr but no other positions?

My league has been on sportsline for over 5 years, but the $150 is getting hard to swallow.

What does CBS have that Yahoo doesn't? is yahoo seriously $0? or is there some setup fee?
