Jags running game vs Tennesee this week (1 Viewer)

Kitrick Taylor

Footballguy
Just checked out Dodds/Blooms projections for this weekend. Without giving too much content away, MJD is ranked 19/33 for Dodds/Bloom respectively. Taylor is at 35/38.

I know Tennesee brings a tough run defense to the table. Expectations for the Jags running game shouldn't be huge. However, how else are the Jags going to move the ball? I don't think there is really any question that MJD and Taylor are their two best skill players.

Looking back to last year:

Week 1 vs Tenn 2007:

MJD 7/32 rush 3/28 receiving 0 TDs

Taylor 6/16 rushing 0 TDs

Garrard 17/30 for 204 1 TD

Tennessee won 13-10

Week 10 vs Tenn 2007:

MJD 19/101/1 TD rushing 3/28 receiving

Taylor 16/45/1 TD rushing

Jones 3/1/1 TD

Gray 13/23/101 1 TD

Jax wins 28-13

Some variables between these two games would be Albert Haynesworth played the first but not the second game. Same for David Garrard. Both will be playing in week 1 this year. Reggie Williams and Jerry Porter both look to be out, leaving a WR core of Matt Jones, Dennis Northcutt, Troy Williamson and Mike Walker. :goodposting:

I just think that the Jags game plan is going to be predominately run oriented. Their WR core is just not very good. The Titans pass defense is arguably just as strong as their run d. Plus the Titans look pathetic on offense right now. Jacksonville has to think they can wear down the Titans run D with a large dose of Taylor and MJD.

I'd think they'll get the ball into their RBs hands at least 35 times again.

MJD 17/85/1 3/28

Taylor 17/51

Garrard 15/24/185 1 TD

Jacksonville or Tennesee homers opinions?

The Titans and the Jags have been in a war for a decade which is always answered by one team running the crap out of the ball right down the other team's throats. MJD and Taylor have schooled the Titans in the past, and Chris Brown has schooled the Jags. But this stuff goes back to Eddie George days.

I love Jags / Titans games!

I'll say

White 13/89/0

Johnson 8/69/1

MJD 17/105/0

Fred 13/82/0

Jags 21 (1 Lewis, 1 Jones, 1Williams?)

Tenn 13

In week 2, Johnson gets more carries.

You cant run on us... Our D will be top 3 this year. It is the best it has been ever.
I think you may be correct for a large portion of the game. This could be a tough one to watch for people who need offensive fireworks. Going to be a lot of: 3 yard run F. Taylor1 yard run F. TaylorPass complete to Lewis for 3 yards.Punt.1 yard run MJDPass incomplete to JonesPass complete to MJD for 6 yardsPunt. But I think there could be some of this later in the game.F. Taylor 5 yard runF. Taylor 8 yard runGarrard complete to Jones for 12MJD 45 yard TD run.

The Titans lost DL depth so they Jags may be able to run on them in the 4th. Haynesworth is a phenomenal player and Vandenbosch is a shade beneath pro bowl caliber. The Titans LBs are very good and their CB Finnegan is one of the best if not the most underrated. On paper, good luck running.

The Jags D can be real tough too.

These two and the Colts-Titans play each other like some old rivalry that dates back decades. The offenses aren't going 3 and out every posession. If MJD only get 33 that would pretty much mean that happenned. He and Taylor are tough, they'll break thru the DL at times and get some yards here and there. I really think you wind up wrestling with the thought that it won't be 3 and out on every series, and then where do ya go from there? It's a toughie.

I'm not sure about the numerical prediction by Bloom+Dodds but it serves it's purpose of telling you "this isn't the week to start a Jaguar RB". I can't really say it's a bad prediction at all. But does that make you give Matt Jones a good game? How ressuring is that? Again, this is a toughie to predict stats for

Sounds like people are just expecting everything to be a continuance of last year. Unfortunately, that cant always be the case. Titans defense is going to regress this year.

In week 1 last year, the Jags couldn't run the ball last year because Tennessee controlled it for 36 minutes. Fisher outcoached the Jags (again) by hardly trying to pass the ball. Jags held VY to 78 yards passing - and lost.

that was a frustrating game to watch. it was annoying for the scoreboard to show the game as very close, yet having the feeling it would be impossible just to get the ball in field goal range to tie the game.
