What we've learned after week 1 (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
It's only 1 week and everything we saw this week could be a one week anomoly (and despite putting that in bold, some guy will jump in and scream about it only being 1 week). But still, I saw some interesting stuff yesterday

- The good news for Green Bay is that Ahman Green looked like he was 25  The bad news is that Brett Favre looked 55

- What happened to that high powered TB offense? Is the Baltimore D that good? Is the Baltimore D, with an O that can actually give the D a breather, that good?

- Jamal, welcome back. We've missed you. :hey:

- Do you think the Texans fans are feeling better about the Mario Williams pick? That Bush kid just might be able to play.

- Speaking of being able to play - Maroney might be a player in the NFL one day and that day may be soon.

- The Battle Manning was a pretty good game despite all the hype. I was worried it would be over hyped and be a dull game.

- Do ya think that the loss of Bentley will have an impact on the Browns' O?

- Did the Rams actually win a game with D and special teams? There may be a snow ball fight in hell right now.

- GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEE!?!?!?! :excited: :football:

- Do you suppose that Trent Green thinks he's Batman right now and munching on a snickers? :wall:

GB the season actually being here!?!?!

What are your thoughts on the games yesterday?

I learned that taking RBush in the 2nd round was not as big a reach as I initially thought. Highest scoring player on my team for week 1.

I have learned to not panic....(really I re-learn this every year).

It was a low scoring week in the NFL , with only one team scoring more than 30 points (Guess who???? Yep that's right Arizona).

My team did not score a rushing or receiving TD yesterday and I still put up a respectable score. Yes, I did lose, but I'm not worried.

Oh yeah, kickers ruled this week! Wilkens, Vinateri, Brown, Stover, Carney, Gould, Graham, and Nedney all had 10+ points in my league!

i took him in the 2nd in two leagues, not looking bad so far BUT it's still early... i'm keeping my fingers crossed.

What I learned:

Balt is going to be a VERY good team this year. D is much better and healthy and Lewis appears to be back. Oh and that McNair fella helps

Gore, you can now see why guys like Portis and McGahee could not keep him off the field when healthy at the 'U'.

Indy will struggle unless that running game kicks in.

Bush makes NO better and is legit.

Maroney will be very good after Dillon is gone.

Atl is the best team in the NFC South.

McNabb is once again a top 5, maybe top 3 NFL QB.

Yes, there is such thing as the SB loss hangover... Sea 9 Det 6?

V. Young will start this year.

St. L D will be much better on coaching alone.

Buf has improved and is not nearly as bad as many think. McGahee is back to 'U' form.

WRs are still inconsistent plays week in and week out.

KC/LJ is in trouble. Oline is much worse and D is no better.

Chi D/ST may have spawned from hell.

GB will be picking in the top 3 of next years draft. Rodgers needs to get on the field.

Yes, Winslow can be a top 5 TE.

That somehow, someway you can complete only 45.5% of your passes and still win if you have a running game.

10/22 140 yards :jawdrop:

That Pennington aganst a junk Defense is a good play.

The Bucs may have wanted to keep griese after all.

Jacksonville is better than most gave them credit for.

Cards still have zero defense. Offensive battle all year no matter who they play.

Steelers played like a super bowl champion squad. No starting QB? Fine, we'll win anyways.

Reggie Bush played against the CLEVELAND BROWNS. remember that.

Gore looked good. If only he can stay healthy..

Alex Smith is an NFL QB.

I would not want to be a Detroit offensive player listening to Martz right now.

Detroit has a defense!

Favre should have retired. This is no way for him to play.

No running game in Indy. NONE.

When's Romo starting? next week or the week after?

Gruden is in trouble. big trouble.

KC will be better next week. LJ will score. So will Gonzo.

No running game in Houston or NYJ either.

Pats need to settle their differences with Branch now.

Leftwich will get more TDs than projected. Throwing to one of their tall WRs looks like the first option everytime the Jags get inside the 10.

The Chiefs' offense looked old on paper before the season. They looked even older on the grass at Arrowhead yesterday pre and post Green injury.

Detroit will play to their team's strength, which is their defense, all season. Expect plenty of Jones on 1st, 2nd and 3rd downs. Their offense will not resemble St. Louis/Martz Light. They do not have the talent. They do, however, have the talent to play the Cover-2.

P. Manning is going to have to carry that football team. If last night is any indicator, the Colts are going to struggle to run the football.

R. Bush in space at this level is no different than R. Bush in space against college opponents. The kid is scary.

A. Peterson, meet Green Bay. Green Bay, meet A. Peterson.

Warrick Dunn is the most underrated RB in the league. 132 RUSHING yards after having 66 yards lost to his backup.

GB 180lb STUDS.

What I learned is:

1) CAR needs S Smith to be effective. I live in Charlotte, and that was a painful game to watch.

2) Warrick Dunn is still very effective being on the wrong side of 30

3) Ditto for Tiki Barber

4) Reggie Bush will get the ball a lot, despite sharing carries with Deuce.

5) Simms is a bad play against a good defense.

6) McNabb is loving the fact that Stallworth is in PHI.

7) TEN defense is awful against the pass.

8) Plummer is horrible on the road. Can't rely on him as a QB1.

9) It's going to be a LONG year for the Packers.

10) Winslow is going to make me very happy that I passed on top TEs early this year. :D

And last,

11) It's only week 1.

Good stuff here.

1) Fred Taylor, Ahman Green, and Jamal Lewis are back to form.

2) Add a td to LJ's yardage and receptions and he had a stud week instead of a good week. (what are you people thinking LJ is in trouble?).

3) Arizona is a fantasy dream. Boldin and Fitz will finish top 5 again.

4) Edge will have a tough time grinding but is so invloved in the offense it does not matter.

5) Willie Parker will rock.

6) Gore, as long as he is not over worked and hangs on to the ball will be very good.

7) Tiki will be top 3 again.

8) Vernon Davis is for real

9) RBBC in New England all year.

10) RBBC in Indy all year.

11) Drew Bennett will be a huge value this season.

12) Stallworth will break your hearts.

13) Cincy will kill it and go to the Super Bowl this season.

14) Tampa Bay will rebound next week. Caddy and Galloway owners do not sell cheap hang in there.

15) Farve is not done. He played against the best Defense in the NFC

16) Vick is on a mission this year and Jenkins will be a solid WR3 this season in FF. Dunn is just super solid as always.

And last but not least, it is week one so relax, and truly identify your holes over the next 2 weeks and manuver accordingly.

When Steve Smith get's back into the lineup Foster will be a beast.

I think that McNabb is on a mission too. A mission to prove that he can win without TO and to make everyone forget about TO. I think he makes Stallworth into a legit player even if he has to hand the ball to him and carry him into the endzone. McNabb is McMotivated.

May very well happen. I think most of us have never doubted Donte's skills and blazing speed, but his nagging injury history and loafing have been consistent so I temper my enthusiasim about his prospects at being a legit #1.Also Philly will spread the ball a lot. It would not suprise me to see Reggie Brown have a big game next week.It will be interesting to see. Stallworth is playing with an all pro QB for the first time so he may have a lot of motivation to show he is a legit #1. I always wonder when a team trades away a talented guy for basically a song (when they are 100% healthy). New Orleans invested what 5 years into this guy, and now they give up on him.

I know the Giants only had one sack last night, but they did get good pressure throughout the game...I'm wondering if Colts RB problem is more of an O-line problem.

I think we learned that free agency hurts offenses and helps defenses.

It seems like the old adage of "Defenses are always ahead of offenses early in the season" gets more and more true as the league evolves.

reggie bush will be the real deal

he lined up at reciever about a dozen times yesterday

i was at the game and this kid is scary fast, they say the NFL is a much faster game than college, it still looked like he had a step on everyone

Bush is a star. And he will be a big time player. I don't think anyone who watches and really know's the game can deny that now.

New coaching regime. Haslett is gone and the new coach wants to put his stamp on the team. Charles Rogers is gone too. Similar situation if you ask me. San Diego and Arizona both let David Boston walk after investing significantly in him.

I agree about the Colts running game. The OL was aweful in their run blocking last night, plus the Giants were not allowing any type of room on the stretch plays. I think the running game will be better and they will continue to give a 60/40 split Rhodes/Addai. It is an RBBC all the way and last night is what we will see all year IMO. If you drafted Rhodes or Addai or both as an RB2 your in trouble IMO.

Good post Scotty!!!!!

I'll go with these

1) Although a good game Edge will disappoint his ADP

2) Kevin Jones will get plenty of touches this year

3) Kurt Warner, if healthy, will be a top 3 qb

4) Carolina really needs Steve Smith

5) GB is really bad

6) Balt is going to be very good, welcome back Jamal

7) Ronnie Brown will be used alot this year and owners will be rewarded

8) Caddy better pray their rookie tackle can open a hole for him cause no one else can

9) Reggie Bush is good.....really good

10) Players are good when put in good situations by their coaches and Jim Haslett will get the Rams defense in the top ten this year in overall defense.

my lessons...

1) Jamal was moving those feet and I am scared to face him.

2) Very happy to have A Bryant, looks like smith will throw some jump balls.

3) Bears DEF is better than last year with ST improvement

4) KC is an 8-8 team, at best. Gonzo will steal many LJ TDs.

5) Shannahan has lost his mind, stay away from this team. He thinks he can run plays he ran with Elway and TD. Wake up and don't be so cocky.

6) Kevin Jones will finish top 8.

7) McGahee will finish top 10.

8) Gore was playing AZ, you don't think the box is getting stacked in wk 2, your nuts (p.s. see point 2)

9) Carolina got a big head with all the ESPN talk, welcome back to earth, I think you will be ok.

10) Vick being Vick is good for FFL.

11) Never ever put stock into these so-called career threatening knee injuries.

My thoughts

Gore played against the AZ Cards, Lundy would of looked all pro running against that defense.

B. Jacobs will have a big year with the Giants, the kid looks good enough to consider as a RB#2

Better days are ahead for B. Watson

Kitna and the lions will be an interesting team this year, they gave the SeaHawks all they could handle.

Cleveland is in for a long year

T.O. looks good, but Drew looks like he's 100 years old, time for a QB change in big D

- The AFC North (Pitt/cinn/Balt) is going to be a blood bath

- McGahee is gonna have a great year

- Buff might not be horrible after all

- Chi def is ridiculous

- Peyton will be a passing monster this year (out of necessity)

- Didn't think KC had a shot at the playoffs before this week and am more convinced now

- Bulger is a good between the 20's qb but struggles bigtime to put it in the endzone

- Jamal is back

- I'll be anxious to watch Seattle and if their lack of offense was a one week anomoly

- A. Green surprised me with a very solid effort vs a tough d

Plaxico Burress is quite good at jumping for a reception, batting it to himself, and coming down with it.

Leftwich will get more TDs than projected. Throwing to one of their tall WRs looks like the first option everytime the Jags get inside the 10.
To all the Matt Jones owners who are counting on those red-zone opportunities (and I'm one of them):I noticed that MJones was NOT on the field on most of the plays when Jax was 1st and goal late in the game (2 different series)........it was Wilford and Reggie Williams (who scored). MJones did get 1 target in the end zone, but it was a poorly thrown ball behind him and he actually did a smart thing and made sure to bat it down in front of the defender who was positioned to intercept.

1. The Bengals are (my) early favorites to come out of the AFC.

2. Philly will piss off a lot of fans in Dal/Wash/NY this year.

3. 9-7 easily wins the AFC West.

4. Atlanta will be the NFC's "schizo" team this year- great one week and losing to bad teams the next.

5. It will take Houston a looong time to recover from their draft day gaffe.

I think deciding which of my WRs to start (Walker, Bryant, Coles, McCardell) is going to drive me nuts every week.

I think the Colts' OL and DL looked pathetic and better be a week 1 thing cuz if not they are due for an early playoff exit. oops oh yeah that's not news is it....

I think I didn't put enough importance on drafting a QB (and didn't get a good enough backup). Again.

I think people finally realize how much losing their OL starters means to KC (esp Roaf obviously). GB not drafting any Chiefs.

I think it'll be funny to see some of the FA moves that are made in knee-jerk reactions this week.

I might make one of them. :bag:

That's usually where a lot of fantasy leagues are won and lost. The first two weeks of the season offer more value than most "sleeper" picks when owners panic.

1. Fantasy mania has taken hold when a guy who gets 148 yards in a game where nothing is going right is a "disappointment" or "bust."

hmmmm......

- even with carson back, rudi is still what makes the bengals go

- d ryans is a tackling monster and will be the DROY

- you dont have to be 5'11" 200+ lbs to run the ball 25+ times as feature back, so says w dunn

- to nick saban: making an effort to run the football consistently will help the passing game

- my 8 yr old daughter can throw a flag better than saban

- nfl def backs have bad hands, and thats why they are def backs and not wr

- there are only a many things that stood out as surprising, and only a few will continue all season long.....one being that det defense is gonna be stingy

my lessons...6) Kevin Jones will finish top 8.
You're not the first person that came out of yesterdays game high on K. Jones. I'm just curious what people saw that watched the game? I can see by the stats that he is more involved in the passing game but is there more? Hoping there is since I have him on 2 teamsThanks for the insightWillie

That Cedric Benson is healthy enough to get double digit carries, but not trusted enough to get a carry in a game that's even remotely close.

That Deangelo Williams has a long way to go before challenging Foster for carries.

DeMeco Ryans proves, yet again, that on field production is more important than combine stats.

And a high-character guy to boot.

That the refs & instant replay are STILL missing calls

Exhibit A: Jax interception was taken away when no evidence showed to the contrary

Exhibit B: Matt Jones catches a ball takes 2 steps, gets popped by the Dallas defender, ball comes out near the sidelines. Matt Jones alertly falls on the ball...........Refs called it an incompletion.

Any others?

Very :goodposting:
:lmao: I dunno. I was playing against LJ in one of my games, and I was pretty happy with it! So, I can imagine I'd be disappointed if I were on the other end.
Are we forgetting how much luck is involved in this silly game we all love so dearly? Imagine if you will LJ punched one in..then he has stud numbers not good numbers. ;)

1) Housh is just as integral to the Cincy passing attack as Chad Johnson.

2) Now that Baltimore has abandoned the 4-6 experiment and gotten healthy, the defense looks just as ferocious as ever.

3) Ashley Lelie will always be Ashley Lelie. :D

4) Wali Lundy's value may not ever be higher than it was on draft day. :sadbanana:

5) Indy looks like they bought Philly's offensive playbook in the offseason.

6) Sometimes FF is just about luck. Charlie Batch outscored a lot of marquee fantasy QBs this week.

7) Kellen Winslow just might be worth the 2 year wait.

8) The Titans sure are a mess...but like a trainwreck, you kinda want to watch just to see what sort of crazy scheme is thrown out there next.

Agree...2 awful calls. Although the interception I can almost understand. It came with 0:51 remaining in the game. Interception=game over, viewers turn the channel. Incomplete pass=viewers still sitting on the edge of their seat. Otherwise, there's no rational reason to overturn that call.

The Packers and the Titans are the early front-runners for the #1 overall pick in next year's draft.

Brady Quinn and his sister are rooting for Green Bay's opponents this year.
