Has anyone seen this Vernon Davis Highlight Reel? (1 Viewer)

Wow... the guy has better elusiveness than I thought... and a great sense for the ball. I'm liking him more all the time.

yeah, some of the moves he did in those clips are what led me to not be concerned about the poor agility tests he had at the combine.

I'm obviously in the minority on this one, but I'm just not as impressed with him as most around here.

If it wasn't for him tossing around 5'8" 185lb DB's than his highlight package to me isn't anything special. He's not going to outmuscle guys like that in the NFL and his actual receiving ability, and making everything seem effortless, doesn't make me say "wow" time after time like I did a couple years ago when scouting Kellen Winslow Jr. (bring on the K2 slams)

VD is not a natural pass-catcher....seems to routinely let the ball get into his body rather than catch with his hands, and seems to always literally "look" the ball into his body before making his next move which detracts from his fluidity.

He's a below average blocker (which I know most don't care about around here), so most of his eye popping strength numbers aren't really being utilized properly in his all-around game.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he'll be a bust and think he'll be a good player, I just don't see the perennial Pro-Bowl, Hall of Fame, game changer that everyone is touting for him lately.

Gates never knew how to block until the Chargers taught him how, so that can be learned if he's willing to work on it.Here's how he did in the hands competition at the All-Star Challenge:

Hands Challenge: Catch as many passes as possible from machines in 30 seconds.

1) Chad Jackson (WR) Florida - 27

2) Sinorice Moss (WR) Miami - 19

3) Vernon Davis (TE) Virginia - 16

4) DeAngelo Williams (RB) Memphis - 15
From everything I've see of him he has great hands. As good as say Gates? I don't know about that yet, but he has the ability to get open on every play and just needs to catch it when it gets there - something I don't think he'll have a problem with.

Showing the same six plays over and over is not much of a highlight reel. Although I think he will become some QB's best friend very soon.
