Ed Reed? (1 Viewer)

I think it had to do with the Raiders just being the suck. If you can't get the ball down field, or can't run past the LB's, the safety will have very little to do. I saw quite a bit of the game and he was there, just had no chances.

Ravens were in 46 looks on almost every defensive snap I saw yesterday. Landry was up at the line of scrimmage and Thomas and Scott were everywhere. Reed, for the most part, will be a roving centerfielder. Obviously, the Ravens will at some point face an offensive line capable of protecting a quarterback that understands coverages. When that happens, Reed will get a few more chances. In this defensive scheme, though, Reed is the equivalent of the 250lb designated hitter on your local beer guzzling softball team. He'll hit for a couple big plays now and then but if you're expecting 5 and 6 tackles a week and multiple passes defended you're going to be seriously disappointed.

Jene's got it right. Seldom (ever?) will the Ravens ever face an offense as inept as Oakland's was last Sunday. He did almost have an INT, though, on the play where Alvis Whitted got blown up on a crossing pattern by Landry. My dumb *** put Reed in my lineup at the last minute, even though I had argued against him being a good play elsewhere :bag: It wouldn't have mattered, as I got dusted anyway, but it still pissed me off that I waffled - I was going to play Deon Grant.. He's a #3 DB at best for me anymore, but faces some matchups down the road where he may be a good option (Cincy, for one).

So is Reed a droppable DB then? If he's not going to get his tackles, I could pick someone up that will.
He's never been a tackle guy. His huge 2004 season came about in large part because of INT, FR, & scoring TDs (although I think he also set his personal high in tackles that year). You may want to try to trade him if you don't want him anymore. He's a "name" player whose rep is bigger than his FF production right now. If he gets a big play or two this week, you might be able to get some decent value for him.

I have to admit, I wasn't paying attention to Reed until I saw him dropped in our keeper league. We only start 2 DBs each, so is he even worth keeping? FWIW, I dropped Whitner for him.

Is Reed worth keeping over a S like Atogwe (or Whitner)?
