Any rule change ideas for a stagnent league? (1 Viewer)

Fair & Balanced
I have been in one league with a group of friends for 12 years. The last couple of years it has become very boring.

It took me 5 years to get them to change to yardage scoring..it was a TD only league forever..so you see what I am dealing with here.

They don`t use PPR, or defenses either.

Looking for anything I can here to spice things up a bit.

How about using PPR and defenses this year  Seriously though, do you have money riding on this? Thats a good way to spice things up a bit if everyone is slacking...raise the $$$ fee!

Oh yeah..it is 500 a team entry.

Use PPR & defenses!! I have commished a league for years as well with a curmudginy bunch. It's amazing to see how change is healthy for the league once you install them. I highly suggest an auction draft if your still doing the mundane surrenptine style.

P.S. Don't wait for a league vote on little change. That process will get you stuck in the mud. You know what they say about old dogs.

Good Luck

Wow! With $500 a person, I'd be wetting my pants all through the draft.Would your leaguemates be at all interested in an auction draft instead of the traditional style? That would spice things up a lot of they were willing to make that big of a change. If the league is becoming very boring, it seems like adding something small like PPR wouldnt do much to revive it.

One thing that we did that was smashingly successful and fun was changing the draft rules.

We change it so that the first team that didn't make the playoffs had first pick of draft slots. Like this:

Previous Year's Finish - Choice of Draft Picks

7-1

8-2

9-3

10-4

11-5

12-6

6-7

5-8

4-9

3-10

2-11

1-12

It balanced the league, offered the better owners a challenge, and made the weak leading up to the draft more strategic. Oweners that would have historically printed off a cheatsheet the night before did more research to determine what the ideal draft slot was and develop a strategy for that spot.

1) PPR

2) IDP

3) Punters (total yards, extra for inside the 20)

4) Head coaches (points for win, bonus for margin of victory)

5) Kick return unit separate from defense (frankly that is how it should have always been)

6) Run a survivor game in parallel with your regular season. For our 12 team league we have two tribes of 6 teams. Week 1 the low scorer from each tribe is nominated for elimination, and those teams play week 2 with the loser kicked out. Repeat until you have 6 teams left, then merge and have the low score every week eliminated, which finishes it up week 17. Or come up with your own schedule. But anyway, you just use the score from your normal fantasy games.

7) Doubleheaders each week.

8) Pick one team who gets to change the icon for the following week of any team he beats. As soon as a team beats him, that team now gets the icon-choosing power over teams he beats.

9) Establish grudge match games between natural rivals with some prize like team renaming or icon changing or signature setting.

10) Put out a weekly fantasy newsletter, including fake newspaper articles about the clubs, etc.

11) Strippers. Lots of strippers.

3) Punters (total yards, extra for inside the 20)4) Head coaches (points for win, bonus for margin of victory)

now that's what I'm talkin 'boutDefinitely auction draft is the best idea IMO.But what do you mean by it's boring? No FA/trade activity? No smack talk? Boring drafts? All of the above?I was in a league like that for 6-7 yrs and hated quitting a league which had built up a history, but this happened to ours. Great league at first, but gradually owners got more and more boring. A lot of it was the commish at first, who pissed and moaned about stupid stuff which nobody else cared about (questioning reasonable trades, whining about an "R rated" logo because his kid might see it etc) - not that it was all his fault, but that caused some of the more active/"fun" people to leave and it went downhill from there. The last few drafts people just sat around and picked - no smack talk, almost no beer drinking (gasp), etc. Boring mo fos. So the answer may be just quit the league.

I would be curious what the roster sizes and starting requirements are. I think expanded numbers of players in a starting lineup can create more weaknesses and more reasons to trade.

I have been running a dynasty league for 10 years now. This year I add a flex and changed the playoff format to get the best 6 teams in. This should **** up the league.
