'Fun' sorry I was going to post 'No trade League' but most would say that's not fun. Than you read the thousand posts on 'Is this trade fair' Yep a trading League is fun alright. You pick out a Division. Whatever Division you get, you have to have one player from each team on your roster in that said Division.

We allow trades but we are using a trade judge from a fantasy site his word is final so that eliminates that headache (if trade is challenged it goes to the trade judge his decision is final and there is no complaining about it or your fined $5 for every post where you ##### about it)

For Dynasty leagues, I'll preach the one year pay in advance rule til I'm blue in the face. If you want your league to last this is a must.

G. Entry Fees/Deposits

Entry Fees are paid one full season in advance. The initial fee will be both 2006 and 2007 fees combined ($125 total). After that one initial double payment, all further years will be just the following year’s fees only. (For example, in 2007 you will be paying the 2008 fees, etc..) After week 16 of each season a deposit of $50 towards the following season’s entry fee must be received by the Treasurer before any trades (players and/or picks) can be made. Remaining balance of following season’s entry fee is due one month before our Draft is scheduled.

F. Retirement/Quitting/New Owners

An owner can retire in good standing, but they will not receive a refund. Retirement must be announced one year in advance (before our Draft) to play out final season and not lose any money already paid in advance. If payment for following year’s entry fee is not received by due date, that is informally announcing a Retirement. Once a Retirement is announced, that owner is not allowed to make any trades (players and/or picks) at any time during their final season. Retirement announcement gives the league one full year to find a replacement owner.

Owners who quit on the league unexpectedly will not receive a refund. The moneys paid in advance for that team will be used towards a new incoming owner’s fees to help in finding a replacement owner on short notice.

New Owners taking over a vacated team must, upon induction, pay balance due of present/upcoming season’s entry fee (dependent on if previous owner retired or quit), and also pay following season’s entry fee in full (entry fees are paid one full season in advance). The search for new owners will be done at FBG. Co-ownership of a team is Not Allowed.

As someone who had problems collecting in even low dollar leagues this year, strongly considering it any future leagues that I start.

Use some combination of H2H and Total Points to determine your standings.

Come in here starting around Week #10 and read all the posts about teams with good records who are about to miss the playoffs. They are the top (or one of the top) scoring team(s) in their league, but have had bad luck with their scheduling draw and are around .500 because they've played the "hot" team seemingly every week.

We eliminate this by giving an owner 4 points if they win their H2H match-up and 1 point for every other team they out-score for the week. So, in a 10-team league, the high scorer gets 12 points and the low scorer gets zero............everyone else is somewhere in between depending on their H2H game and their total points for the week. So, basically, your H2H game is only 1/3 of the total points available to you each week. As commish, I simply post the standings on our message board each week.

As far as the fun factor, this system makes Monday nights very interesting. Even though your game may be sewn up one way or the other, you are still competing against the other eight teams for those bonus points. In some tight-scoring weeks, teams can gain (or lose)5-6 points on a Monday without the outcome of their H2H game ever changing!!

Or better yet go the all-play. The best and most fair system around. In a ten team the high point total for the week is 9-0 and the lowest is 0-9.

I think the reason most leagues remain H2H is for the fun, competitive aspect of playing just ONE opponent each week................even knowing that it's not the best way to determine the "better" fantasy teams. That's why we decided to stay away from the all-play. Every week is IDENTICAL and can become boring. Plus, we use two divisions, so teams play division opponents twice and the other division teams only once.It takes away the trash-talking aspect when you play EVERYBODY every week!!

I like that one

In a few of my leagues, we use a fairly simple method... after determining teams in the normal manner (division winners, best record amongst wild cards), we then make the final spot for the remaining team with the most points. This guarantees that at least the top points team gets in, and usually means we get the top 3 in (its rare that 2 of the top 3 don't get in on record).

I've thought about doing a different thread that isn't so much about avoiding problems, as the other thread was, but is more about adding fun stuff. Some ideas my leagues have used:

1. Add punters. Points for gross yardage. MFL can support punters. The good thing about punters is they are fairly predictable compared to some other positions, which is a way to let owner skill differentiate itself. If you can predict which NFL teams will be bad and have bad offenses, you've got a good shot at predicting which punters will do well. Without having confirmed it mathematically, I believe they are much more predictable than kickers. I don't use points for inside the 20 because I suspect that would make them slightly less predictable as I suspect it would help punters on good teams more than punters on bad teams. Here are the top 12 punters last year in my scoring system. Only a few real surprises compared to how their teams (and offenses) did for the season:

1 Lechler, Shane OAK PN 219.052 Jones, Donnie STL PN 2083 Maynard, Brad CHI PN 200.954 Larson, Kyle CIN PN 200.255 Harris, Nick DET PN 199.856 Koch, Sam BAL PN 192.757 Hentrich, Craig TEN PN 188.158 Ryan, Jon SEA PN 177.859 Kluwe, Chris MIN PN 172.6510 Bidwell, Josh TBB PN 171.311 Zastudil, Dave CLE PN 170.512 Rocca, Saverio PHI PN 167.352. Add head coaches. 0 points if the coach's NFL team loses. If the coach's NFL team wins, you get some base number of points plus more based on margin of victory. One of my leagues uses 3 points for a win plus 1 point for every 3 points margin of victory. So if your coach wins by 6, you get 3+2 = 5 points. MFL can support this.3. Play Survivor with your normal results. Years ago we split the league into 2 "tribes" for Survivor purposes. The first week the low scoring team from each tribe is nominated for elimination. The second week the two nominated teams play head to head with the loser kicked out. We use the normal weekly scores, and survivor games do not contribute to regular season results. When you've eliminated however many teams you need to fit your schedule, you merge everyone into a single tribe and the low scorer is eliminated each week. Only extra work to do it is to have someone post the results each week. As a prize in some leagues we've improved the winner's draft position.
