**Official YANKEES 2009 Thread** (1 Viewer)

Also, I think that was before that little ARod thing happened, Shady. He tends to make a little bit of a difference.

I changed my mind. About two weeks ago I mentioned I thought the Yanks were a 85-90 win team. I think the Sox are around 93-94.btw, how are you a 49er fan AND a Yankee fan? Why not Jets or Giants?
My father grew up a HUGE Yankee fan and I inherited that from him. Growing up in NY didnt hurt matters there. He didnt like football, so I kind of gravitated to my own team. being young and impressionable I idolized Rice and Montana so I rooted for the 49ers and stuck with them ever since. Sometimes I wish I could switch to the Giants just to make things easier but Im not gonna be one of those people. Same reason I like the Bulls in basketball. I was young and impressionable, they were good and had Jordan. So I became a Bulls fan and stuck with them ever since.

I think about 85% of the baseball talking heads on ESPN, etc took this team to win the division.

Not fishing or going off of one game, I just don't see them being better than the Rays or RSox. These mooks see names like Damon, Jeter, Matsui and Posada and just assume they are in their prime.

Really, that lineup today kind of sucked. I know it was missing ARod, but who is intimidated by that?
 WTF are you smoking? 5 out of 21 ESPN "experts" picked the Yanks win the division http://digg.com/d1nzeWNot only that you named 4 guys who actually produced. The thing that sucked was their fielding including Posada behind the plate.

But dont let facts get in the way of your argument.
:lmao: at the haters.
Why am I a hater because I don't think it's a good team?I dislike the Red Sox, but I think they're a very good team. Trust me, I hate the Florida Gators waaaaaaaaay more than the Yankees, and I don't only think, but I know they're loaded and likely to win the BCS again this year.

I just think this year's Yanks are very poorly put together. I said this weeks ago. Posada, Jeter, Cano and the entire outfield are all average to below-average regulars at this point.
I take most of what is said about the Yanks from other teams' fans with a grain of salt..... and frankly, most of the time I don't think that they ever offer an unbiased opinion.

I apologize.Jeter roolez!! Best defensive shortstop in the game! Ransom! Swisher! NADY! Where does it end!

Giradi is the best manager BAR NONE. I loves me some Robinson Cano! #### walks! Those are for ####### who are scared to swing.

Teixiera baby -- there's a true Yankee. All he wanted to do was play in New York. Would've done it for free.

DAMASO MARTE!!

Speaking of Jeter they just pinch hit for him with Melky. I wonder if Girardi is gonna start replacing him for defense in late innings.

It's not that. Yankee fans are in a tough spot when talking about their team. If they win....they are supposed to. They should never lose with all that money spent, their ability to buy talent...etc., etc. If they lose it's the end of the world...how could that team lose. How could they spend all that money. It's lose/lose with other fans.An objective view of the Yanks would be..... Good SP. Good Bullpen. Great Corner INFs. A SS who's lost a couple steps....but can produce at the plate. A 2B who showed he can hit the ball....but needs to prove he's a big league batsmen and a quartet (Damon/Matsui/Swisher/Nady) who can just as much carry a team to a win as do nothing. They are right there with BOS and TAM....as they should be. Let's be honest. BOS has as many lineup questions. What's Ellsbury done?...or Lowrie. Lowell was born about the same time as dirt....Poppy ain't get any younger, healthier or thinner and Drew seems to be made of glass. TAMPA also. They're a young team with some nice talent and some nice average players. Iwamura's decent. Bartlett isn't anything grand.... as is any of their role/part time players.

Fair write-up for the most part.

I may get killed for saying this, but I would rather the Yankees re-sign Jeter and not win the World Series the next 5 years rather than let him walk and win one every year. I love the team and I root for them 100%, but there's something to be said for having a connection to the players and not just rooting for laundry.
Yes, I would have to kill you for saying that

:goodposting: i agree, and for as much as anything, its not like getting rid of Jeter guarantees you'll be hoisting three straight trophies. Jeter was a difference maker in previous years, and so long as he won't cost you a series(which if you get him off of SS, I don't think he will, then whats the worry.I could definately see a 2010 alignment of Jeter at 3rd, A-Rod DH/LF and someone else at short. Realistically, roid guys do start to have joint tweaks, and I don't know that he'll be able to handle 3b if he's off the juice. A-Rod might be better served in another slot.
I think Jeter is a great guy who I am proud to have on the Yankees and the ultimate professional, but there comes a time where you shouldn't make a bad business decision. If he will stay for little money than that is fine. One other point, Jeter's postseason OPS is the exact same .846 as in the regular season, but last year he really killed them with .353 OPS in 17 AB's. One 17 AB stretch means little but as he gets older you look for trends.

I saw that too and actually in times where we have a good size lead or the last inning, it is smart. That being said, Jeter got down the line very slow on his DP and I wonder if he tweaked something (I have not heard this so I could be wrong)I actually think it was done just to get the kid some playing time.Good to see Texiera hit the ball well. I also liked his picks at first base and the leaping grab...very nice.

#### that ####. If Jeter gets his 3000 hit with a team other than the Yankees Ill be livid.

Pettitte as a No. 4, huh? I'll take that and so would about every other team in the majors.

Ditto Joba as a 5.

I see a lot of 7 and 8-game win streaks this year and not many losing streaks going beyond 3 games.

Hey, maybe Baltimore is this year's Tampa Bay?
No, their pitching is horrendous, even if they've done a decent job this week.Guthrie, Hendrickson and Eaton? Jesus. It's 5 games people. Like 3% of the season so far.
It's just an observation. It's not like Rays fans have anything to worry about. Your pitchers are going to have the same exact seasons as last year, remember?

Remember what? I never said that. And no, they won't have the same seasons. Jackson is gone for starters and Kazmir should be better. And then Price will be up. So actually, they'll be quite different.Still not sure how the Orioles will be this year's Rays, but fortunately, you don't know either.

Seriously???You choose to start this when your team is the only one looking up at us? :lmao:
Not to mention, Pettitte and Joba were fine and the losing streak is only two. So there wasn't even anything wrong about Ed Wood's post in the first place! :lmao:

it was more directed at the 7-8 game win streaks. you're 1 game "up" at us, having played bal, kc & 1 game with tb. we've played tb, laa, & flown across country. not too worried yet  both teams look like #### so far.

i know i know. that would apply to the original statement as well.

Another nice win over the defending AL Champs!! It's too bad some people are blinded by their hatred of Pinstripes to appreciate the greatness that is The Captain! Manny Ramirez may be the only other person on the planet that I want up in a big spot.

All in all, a good trip to start the year winning 5 of 7 to close it out. Sucks about Nady, though. We're going to be pretty vulnerable going forward against lefties at least until ARod comes back. I wonder if Austin Jackson is going to get called up. Doubtful, but he was mysteriously missing from the AAA lineup tonight. Looking forward to opening up the new cathedral against the Tribe tomorrow.

I say bring Wily Mo Pena home!

I think that was a pretty big series win after that debacle on Monday vs the AL Champs
:goodposting: Already it feels a lot different... That performance by Burnett was sweet to watch. I can't even remember watching pitching like that, I feel like I've been watching Wang and Mussina nibble the plate and pray for 20 years now.
