Brian Hartline, WR, MIA (1 Viewer)

Now that three of the four preseason games are behind Hartline, he is leading the team in all receiving categories.

Of the 107 yards that he has gained so far this preseason, 54 yards was gained during one pass play. The Dolphins were lacking a receiver with big play ability and Head Coach Tony Sparano thinks that they have found that player in Hartline.

Rookie Brian Hartline continued to run as the Dolphins' first-team flanker at Sunday's practice.

Hartline appears to have this job wrapped up, at least to start the season. Davone Bess will work as the starting slot man in three-receiver sets. Greg Camarillo is the fourth receiver, and rookie Patrick Turner is the fifth. Aug. 30 -
------------I think I might take a flier...anyone know anything about this guy

I don't really know much of anything about him, nor have I found anything in my searching today. But if he has the job, and he's returning punts/kicks he'd have some good value in my league. I too am curious if anyone else knows something about this mystery man that would make me pick him up.

I seriously said in the forum back in May/June that a bunch of free agents like Kelly Washington, Brandon Lloyd and Matt Jones could have replaced all the Dolphin WRs, without any drop off in talent, and I still dont think i am wrong.Seems Hartline would have promise.........but........Sparano spreads the ball around too much for any single player to be great in fantasy, especially not enough targets for a WR to have serious juice, other than as a deep league back-up. Good luck to Hartline, looks like he outworked Bess, Patrick Turner etc.

Local radio down here said that according to the coaches they are simply taking the opportunity to get a good look at Hartline in the preseason while Camarillo is recovering from the knee injury of a year ago. The feeling is that Camarillo will be starting as soon as he is 100%.

Since Camarillo is not going to the PUP list that means he will playing and very soon. I would not be surprised to see him start week 1 opposite Teddy Ginn Jr.

Being an Ohio native from the Columbus area I have always been a Buckeyes fan. It has always boggled my mind how they can continually produce NFL caliber WRs but not QBs. From Cris Carter to Joey Galloway.

That said, this year reminds me a little of the year Ted Ginn Jr. overshadowed fellow WR Anthony Gonzalez in the draft.

This year I see a similar scenario "possibly" playing out as Brian Robiskie overshadowed Brian Hartline.

Don't get me wrong, I think Robiskie will turn out to be a solid receiver at some point in Cleveland, but it's Hartline that has the better opportunity for the time being in Miami. Much like Gonzalez had in Indy. Just sayin', I'd be very leary of casting doubt on him with how well he has come along already in the preseason.

This is more evidence that a balanced view has to be taken of preseason playing time and any preliminary coaching statements about starters.

This especially applies when it marginal talent is being evaluated. Players do win jobs outright in camp, especially talented ones, but Sparano's comments today say that Brian Hartline is a #4 WR instead of #2 as had been speculated by press after the first 4 preseason games. The rookies Brian Hartline and Patrick Tuner are only in line behind the more proven players, Greg Camarillo and Devonne Bess. To me, this is because all of the above are marginal talent. So instead of there even being a clear #2 named opposite Ted Ginn, they will all see some time.

"Nobody needs to play 65 plays" per Sparano.

Bottom line: this is a mess fantasy wise and will be until they invest in better talent at WR.

I think that other than in a very deep league, roster spots are better spent on other WR prospects than on the crapshoot that is the Miami WR situation. Miami is a run-first team who plans to spread the ball around in passing situations. I don't see anyone on the team really excelling.

Hartline = another overhyped fantasy flop. He'll end up being the #4 WR in Miami.I still like Bess as the #2, though.
I wouldn't call him a flop. He'd be a late flyer who didn't pan out. But that's what makes the SP great. You hear about potential difference-makers and get to take a chance on them. It's low risk/high reward and I'll be all over that every time.

wasn't Ginn supposed to have big play ability?
When all passes travel 7 yards from the line of scrimmage, tough for him to make a play. The MIA WR situation has changed daily. it's ridiculous. Camarillo was 4th, then he was working with the 1's. Hartline started, then Bess. Not enough fantasy gold to get too worked up. If Camarillo falls, I'll take him.

I like Hartline as a player, but there's just not enough in this offense to make him a viable weekly starter. Henne isn't going to throw it all that much usually, and Marshall will get the first look, with the rest being shared between Bess and Hartline.

Fasano gets plenty of love as well.

Miami pecking order seems to be:

1. Brandon Marshall

2a. Brian Hartline

2b. Anthony Fasano

2c. Davone Bess
