Eagles work out RBs, include Ex-Bengal Dorsey

1/17/2010 11:01:08 AM

Adam Caplan of Scout.com reports the Philadelphia Eagles worked out three running backs this week, Scout.com has confirmed through a league source.

Free agents DeDe Dorsey and Dwayne Wright were two of the names that stood out on the list.

Dorsey offers a speed element. If veteran RB Brian Westbrook decides to retire or isn't brought back, which remains a distinct possibility based on his contract, Dorsey could find further interest from the Eagles.

Wright, a former fourth-round pick of the Buffalo Bills in 2007, is known as a power back.
This surely doesn't give us Westbrook owners hope but man if I was a McCoy owner I'd be selling high right now.

Uh, no. McCoy is going to be the lead back next year; nothing has happened to make the Eagles change their minds.

Westbrook is gone; no way the team pays him the $7 million roster bonus he is due in March. So there will be at least one open roster spot for a RB next year. That's all that this is about.

Seriously???Every team works players out at this time of year because they can now sign players to futures contracts and add them to the roster. Every team does this after their season is over. Every single one.

The scouting department is doing what they should - looking at free agents. Signing a few FAs now before other teams grab them (and the 4 remaining teams still playing aren't grabbing any yet) is just a good idea.

The Eagles currently have but four RBs on the roster: Westbrook, McCoy, Leonard Weaver and Eldra Buckley. They should have 5-7 by training camp.

These guys don't pose threats to the current roster 90% of the time.

Yes I'm serious and I understand what you're saying too. When Westbrook went down McCoy didn't/couldn't carry the load they began to rotate RBs. If they believed in McCoy could they not draft RBs for next season and it would probably be cheaper? That's if they didn't have any concerns.IMHO, this screams red flag. RBBC in Phily next season if Westbrook is gone.

If DeDe Dorsey working out signals a red flag for you, you need to recalibrate your "red-flag-o-meter" because it is set way to low.

Them working out street FAs doesn't "scream" anything. The Cowboys worked out RBs too, and signed RB Herb Donaldson. Do you also think this impacts Marion Barber/Felix Jones/Tashard Choice? However, yes, Philly is likely to have a RBBC next year....and every year McCoy is there. Hes a 5'10 198lb runner with little bulk and little inside running ability. They didn't draft him to be a full-time guy, and no one with reasonable expectations would have assumed that to be the case.

I understand questioning the status of Westbrook and certainly there is question about if he will be back with the Eagles but saying he is gone is going a bit overbaord. Many times a player like this may renegotiaite his contract knowing the team will not pay out this large bonus. These names working out here strike me as well as players that are signed as extra bodies that will get a chance to earn a roster spot with a good showing. Nothing more.

I personally never mentioned DeDe's name so I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion. I mentioned the obvious and what everyone else has been mentioning. The rotating that took place when Westbrook was absent, McCoy not carrying the load and inconsistencies at times during the game. Now, they have began to bring in other guys and IMHO they'll surely bring in other until they are comfortable with their backs.Taking all this into account is what caused my "red-flag-o-meter" to raise;)

McCoy has shown flashes and to his credit, he did better than some of the other rookie backs and he's fairly young too.
