2010 NFL Draft Prospect Highlight Videos (1 Viewer)

Actually, what stood out to me in those Scott clips was how little quickness he showed. He has good initial speed and acceleration, but almost all of those runs were virtually identical: gashing the defense right up the middle without having to make any real lateral cuts. You never once see him stop on a dime and make a hard cut across his body. He actually runs a bit like Darren McFadden. Both excel at getting north-south in a hurry, but neither shows much footwork or change of direction. Basically, they have tight hips. That's a very bad thing at the RB position.

Part of the reason why I like Stafon Johnson is because he's a bigger back and he also shows the ability to effortlessly start-stop and change directions. I always love when a RB can bounce around like a pinball. I haven't seen much of that from Scott.

I think the RB in this draft who displays the best hard cuts and one step lateral movement is easily Jahvid Best. His one step cut is devastating and leaves people on the ground regularly. His cutting looks like a young LT to my eyes (obviously he doesn't have all of LT's other moves down though). I think he has more potential at the NFL level than CJ Spiller, who doesn't impress me with anything much other than his speed (and I guess his vision is ok, but most of his big runs seem to come from 10 foot gaps in the line).

You're right about Best. He's the best cutter in this class, but he's also probably the smallest back in the draft. I don't have any questions about his talent. I just wonder what type of workload he'll be able to handle with his frame. He had trouble staying healthy in college, though his injuries seemed to be of the freak variety.

Clearly we define quickness differently. When i think of quickness, i think of acceleration/burst. When you think of quickness, it sounds like you think of lateral agility/cutting ability. Couple differences between between Scott and McFadden is McFadden has very skinny and long legs, McFadden runs very upright, and McFadden isn't particularly good at breaking tackles. Scott on the other hand has thick legs, runs low and compact for a back his size, and can break tackles. And unlike McFadden, Scott isn't gonna cost a 1.1 rookie pick, you will likely be able to get Scott in round 2-4 of rookie drafts. Not to mention that Scott more than likely won't end up on the Oakland Raiders...

I mentioned in another thread that I HATE how Mathews carries the ball. Always in his left hand (not terrible, 'cause his right arm is a great weapon) and usually away from his body. NFL defenders will be knocking that ball out at least once a game if he doesn't fix that in a hurry.

Hey CM, I just watched these two videos and a few things jump out when watching Mathews. 1. Most of his runs are to the left side so he should be carrying the ball in his left hand.

2. Even when he run up the middle he has a habit of gravitating to the left.

3. When he runs through traffic he protects the football with both hands.

4. In the first video, when he's running to the right, he's carrying the ball in his right hand and when he's running to the left he's carries it in his left.

5. In the second video, he ran to the right a few times and didn't change hands but on one of the plays he was in traffic.

6. He does have the tendency to carry it loosely but while in traffic he covers it up, overall he seems to protect the ball fairly well. These is a small sample but that's what I've seen from him.

Tex

Here's some:

. I think its all from 2009, might be some older stuff in there though.

I saw a little bit of White during the East-West game. Not a real flashy athlete, but caught quite a few balls. I think he could make a team as a WR3 or WR4. I'm not too excited about his upside.

Added highlights for:

- WR Freddie Barnes

- WR Andre Roberts

Changed the CJ Spiller highlights to a new vid.

Ben Tate Highlights.

Good lateral agility for his size. His quicks and long speed look decent. Doesn't look to me like he has 4.50 speed like he's projected, hopefully he can run somewhere in that area. All in all, looks like a solid RB prospect with the potential to carry the load. Definite fantasy sleeper to keep an eye on.

- Added the Ben Tate highlight video to the first page

- Added highlights of BYU TE Dennis Pitta

Dwyer looks great when he has a huge hole and lots daylight in front of him. No one questions his long speed. They question his short area burst and instincts. He has a little bit of plodder in him. Watch some of the games from this season and you'll see him get stuffed behind the line of scrimmage when he has to make something out of nothing.

clemsons Dline was the BEST in the country... dwyer is a nice prospect, i think hes more naturally strong than weight room strong... his body type is very disappointing, and i think hes playing speed is much faster than his 40 speed... i think hes a better prospect than shonn greene... i just question his work ethic.running back rankings would probably be..

spiller

dwyer

matthews

best (talent wise hes #2... and the last guy i passed on who i thought was #1 talent wise in his class, but also small and electric electric is doing well for the eagles...so he should be higher if hes drafted into a good situation)

hardesty

where these guys are drafted will dictate their rankings alot. the top 4 will be able to contribute anywhere... spiller has the most talent, and hardesty is the biggest gainer from the combine.

CJ Spiller reminds me when I showed my friends Chris Johnson's youtube vid coming out of college.

I knew he was going to be special if he got a chance to tote the rock.

Spiller made my jaw drop on 2 runs in particular.

However, one thing I noticed is he looked like his burst was a bit slower later in the year and especially the bowl game.

He was still faster, but didn't have that 'wow' burst. I don't know if he was hurt, or just had tired legs, but in the NFL it'll be A LOT harder to handle.

Can he handle the full workload like CJ did last year in Tennessee?

Spiller was hurt.

- Replaced the Montario Hardesty highlight video with a new and improved one.

- Added highlights of Iowa TE Tony Moeaki.

Alright, I took a look at the RB's today.

Prepping for a dynasty start up, so I've been looking at the vitals from the combine and pro days as well.

Here's the notes I wrote down...

I'll apply a simple grading scale as well.

Also, you'll notice by my notes what my personal preferences are based on the offensive schemes I think are more productive.

Let's roll...

Despite the overused comparison, Toby Gerhart IS John Riggins.

I really hope he's found for the right fit at the nxt. level.

Giants or SD maybe...

Jacobs' has been given plenty chances, time for a change.

Sproles and Gerhart makes sense to me too.

Maybe the most interesting prospect coming out w/ the most intrigue surrounding him to me.

Historically, he is an aberration. I honestly cant get a handle on whether his skills translate to the nxt level.

3.75 stars

Ryan Matthews=MJD

Among other things, I related the low center of gravity both have in their respective styles.

They move similarly laterally too.

4.50 stars

Stefan Johnson is an ACL waiting to happen...

I would not touch him.

Call it a feel, but I just cant see him staying healthy.

3.0 stars

Jahvid Best just might be the most elusive of the RB bunch.

4.0 stars

Ben Tate is a 3-5 RB, prolly the 3rd best RB coming out.

This guy reminds me of '06 LJ.

4.50 stars

Not really and have not been impressed by Dwyer much.

I really think he'll soon be forgotten in a couple yrs.

Prove me wrong Dwyer. God knows I love Paul Johnson, ever since Navy here locally.

2.5 stars

M Hardesty=faster Mendy.

Maybe the most complete RB coming out.

4.25 stars

I'd like to see McKight in the right situation. I think he'd be really fun in the right fit.

Philly and Wash make sense to me.

I am not a fan of McCoy, lacks long run potential. McKight could fill that role. A McKnight/McCoy and Weaver split would really surprise people I think.

In Wash, let's pretend they trade AH or do something else w/ the roster and get a late or high 3rd back in the deal. Heck, they might get him w/ their 4th rd pick. All 3 of those Portis, Parker, and LJ aint making it to the opening day roster.

Shanny w/ Mcnight would be nice.

N O makes sense too. Fast and gets to his high end speed quickly. He'd look nice on Superdome turf. Good pedigree, from USC. Really nice hands, maybe line him up outside some. Sound familiar to another N O RB? This guy can contribute in the running game though. Unlike another hyped RB from USC from a couple yrs back.

4.0 stars

Anthony Dixon looks mean.

His 3 cone drill ranks w/ the best.

This guy could be good, prolly a better power back than Gerhart.

4.0 stars

Anybody I did not mention just means nothing imediately stood out to me in regards to them.

I'm saving the best for last though.

Mr CJ Spiller.

Some relate him to McFadden in this sense.

Overhyped RB that relies on his speed. Some say ultimately, he'll prove as needing more than just speed to be successful in the NFL.

Dead wrong, IMO.

To me, CJ Spiller is the best homerun RB guy and flat out sickest RB prospect in some time, maybe since Barry Sanders. Yep, I said it.

I am impressed by his vision to see the hole and his ability to accelerate to max speed simulatenously.

In dynasty rookie drafts, he's the pick right after Bradford #1.

And oh yeah, he's gonna get to the corner at the nxt level too.

CJ Spiller is the only 5 star RB coming out.

5.0 stars

Ironically enough maybe, I think the top 6 of the top 10 or so 40 times at the combine are maybe the top 6 backs coming out.

I really like this crop of top 6 or so RB's coming out this yr.

Opportunities for teams to really upgrade at RB into the 4th rd of the draft this yr.

That's it guys.

Similar opinions or ones to the contrary?

Fellow AFFDL league owners, please consider this may or may not be subterfuge, so plan accordingly. :goodposting:

Listen D Bag...don't go shouting from the rooftops about this kid until AFTER my draft huh?I basically think the same thing. He's SICK.

Not only does he have game breaking speed, but he's got ball bearings for ankles, makes super smooth cuts, knows how to use his speed against his defenders to make them miss angles, but he can catch and adjust to the ball in the open field. He won't get tough yards up the middle, but if he gets the ball 20 times a game, he's good for 100+ and a TD every game. The guy is just simply a game breaker. He's got Chris Johnson speed with MUCH better vision and cutting. He waits for his blockers (when he needs it).

BTW...this guy is the same exact size as CJ.

It all depends on where he goes though. He needs a team that's committed to giving him teh ball and not using him on kick returns and trick plays.

Still room, get onboard. Make a move to get to the top of your rookie draft now.

I did not see any clips of James Starks RB/GB posted yet, so here it is. Although his upright running style may expose him to unnecessary punishment, this kid has a real good skill set. He may not wow many with his 4.5 40 time, but he has very good acceleration and seems to glide effortlessly in the open field, he has surprising elusiveness and agility for a big back, displays nice vision and soft hands. He is reportedly a high-character prospect, as well. Starks missed the entire 2009 season with a shoulder injury (sugery for a torn labrum) and is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, but if he can shake the injury bug, he could garner some playing time (he does have the frame to add some bulk). Green Bay's RB Coach, Edgar Bennett said this about Starks: “Very good size, good speed, has power, can make people miss. He’s a good receiver out of the backfield. His versatility, that’s something that jumps out at you. You can also look at the fact that he’s a very, very good athlete.”
