Mock Draft with a different point of view (1 Viewer)

i find it incredibly insane for Detroit to pass up not only Suh but also McCoy for Okung. They can get a OT in the 2nd or one next year with their first as Backus wasn't the problem it was their guard positions which they filled with the Sims trade.

again it's feasible but highly unlikely.

I doubt the Sims trade really influences their pick - if they like Okung, I assume they'll still take him. I just don't think it's outrageous to think they'd still take a LT after trading a 5th round pick for a guard.

Great feedback here from Shark Pool - would love to hear anyone else's take on piece as whole. Pretty sure all the bugs are out of the piece.

I definitely don't think it makes Detroit a lock to take Suh. They traded a 5th and a player for a 7th and Sims, right? If they're basing what they do at #2 on acquiring a guard, that's a terrible decision. It's possible they've made their decision that they want Suh (or McCoy if StL changes their mind), but I definitely don't think the move makes it a lock. It's also possible they've decided they'll move on from Backus (who will be 33 at the start of the season). You mentioned the possibility of dumping Cherilus. That's always possible since Mayhew/Schwartz didn't draft him and we don't know their opinion of him.I think it makes Detroit slightly more likely to take Suh than before. But I'm still pretty split, so I'm leaving it as Okung for now. Drafts rarely go as projected, and the Bradford/Suh/McCoy/Okung 1-2-3-4 sounds like too cookie cutter right now to me.This is going to be a fun two weeks!
Yeah I think you're right, basing the decision off acquiring a veteran guard would be terrible. I think there has been more 'Detroit wants to trade down' than usual, and this would indicate that they are looking at either Okung/Trent Williams/Bulaga. Seems unlikely that they would be able to pull the trade down.... I'm with you, I think its 50/50 Suh/Okung at this point. Should be a great two weeks!
Regardless of what the truth is with Detroit, I absolutely expect them to float every name possible in the next two weeks, particularly Okung and Trent Williams. The idea is to get Washington to trade up with them, so they can still get Suh/McCoy/whatever O-lineman they want. Hypothetically, if they want McCoy - it would benefit them big-time to find someone who wants an offensive lineman, that way he goes #2, Suh goes #3 and they get McCoy at 4. Same if they just love Trent Williams.
I just can't see a scenario where the Lions pass on Suh short of getting a Ricky Williams type deal from someone.

Update - last one before actual draft. Take a look!
Great mock, I'll throw in my 2 cents:I think you NAILED the top 10, expect Cleveland in such a wildcard who knows what they will do? Also I think the Jags are in play for Clausen but again a very hard team to figure out.I think Everson Griffin has definitely fallen out of the 1st. Great mock though, but I don't believe the Giants will pass on McClain if he's there.

Great Stuff...

I'm not a draftnik but some years more than others I've enjoyed spending time playing the game... Used to love getting PFW Draft report and reading the Buchsbaum stuff... I do think that many mocks out there all try to take everything into accout - At 1st it's easy to match up needs with draft eligable players but, most of the mock sites I look at adjust accordingly....

Though, it is nice that you show your work and keep a running tab on team tendencies...

Another step would be to adjust these as well and look for some help from fans and people following the team...

Let me add some notes for the Jets....

I think you give Mike Tannenbaum too much credit as "Architect of the Jets"- Mike T was an accountant and a Lawyer around 30 years old when the Jets hired him... Just one look at him and you can guess that most of us probably ran circles around Mike T on the Flag Football field. HE IS NOT A TALENT EVALUATOR. And whatever chops he has learned as an evaluator has been on the job and probably IMO, not much better than many people around FBGs. IMO, the mediocre / part time job Bradway did as GM proved to Tannenbaum he didn't need a middle man.

Mike T is a supposed Cap master as well as a decent salesman for the NY Jets - IMO his coaches call the Shots on players and talent leaning heavily on the scouting Dept. Mike T finds a way to get it done and get the guy in NY under the cap....

Mark Sanchez probably was a call coming from Ownership as in GET ME A QB same with Favre.

I'm sure Sanchez had to have Rex's 100% approval though. On Favre there were conflicting stories - Mgt might have just wanted the legend in NY.

But, when Mangini was here - He was the football guy - He was the guy who came here with the Bellichik philosophy and the desire to find FOOTBALL PLAYERS who loved football and guys of high character - For the most part I think he did a tremendous job evaluating talent except Vernon Gholston - For the life of me I don't know how Mangini lost his way on this pick and it has been stated that this was a 100% Mangini call - possibly 1 reason he's gone.

Now with Rex Ryan... Believe me, Mike T is not looking for and finding guys that Rex has to work with and fit in - It's ALL Rex calling the shots especially on Defense.. Mike T doesn't tell anyone if Jason Taylor has anything left and how he fits into the Jets defense - Rex sells Mike T on how he can use Jason Taylor and Mike T gets the deal done.... Same with Cromartie and same with any draft pick.

I do like the Hughes pick..... Seems like the concensus and it happens to be one of the Jets top 3 needs.

But, if there is one thing that encapsulates the Jets Draft philsophy it is this - Do whatever you can do to set up your team ready to play game 1 without the draft - Then enter the draft with the ability to Draft BPA without NEED hanging over your head but, with a keen eye on need with respect to the future of the team, contracts and age..... Hence the flurry of deals the Jets usually make predraft.

The JT pickup - While a 1 year situation like many of the Jets recent deals, still buys time for the Jets to not have to jump at whatever Pass Rusher is there....

IMO, the Jets could possibly go CB - Revis and Cromartie are due for deals soon - Not sure if they can keep both so, CB at this stage might surprise some draftniks..... Rex has also stated that his defense is predicated on great CB play... I'm sure if there was a CB they loved they would look long and hard at finding a guy that could be groomed and play nickel and then possibly take over if Cromartie doesn't work out of asks for more money - Heck, they need another CB in case Cromartie gets suspened.

But, the Jets won't pass up on BPA IMO.

Of course you can't completely ignore need - The Jets aren't taking a QB for instance...

I can see the Jets going Pass Rusher / CB or OL - of course there are a few safeties who won't fall Also to a lesser extent DE/DT.

Great point about watching out for the Jets to TRADE UP - it has worked in their favor recently and as a Jets fan it's tough to step away from the TV at any point.... I just hope it doesn't happen tonight - This draft seems loaded, if anything Trade Down...

:)

I did get nervous at every trade up that it was the Jets....

I think teams get a little crazy on their Trade Ups - it's worked for the Jets lately but, I still envy the teams that can trade back and stack picks.
