So far, Toy Story 3, Iron Man 2, and Get Him To The Greek have been the only good movies this summer. This is a very weak lot. It's not that I am certain that Inception will be great. It's that the season has been so mediocre, Inception only needs to be "good" to succeed.KarmaPolice said:Nolan hasn't made a bad movie yet, so there is reason to have decent expectations. Sweet. This movie was a lot of fun.Kickass
Kickass was a bit more grown up than I thought it would be. Can't wait for the sequel.
The Hebrew Hammer is fun. Very underrated. "Yeah, when's the black man finally gonna catch a break in the boxing world?"I wasn't a big fan of The Man Who Wasn't There, but you have to love the photography.Netflix Watch Instantly this weekend...The Hebrew Hammer - some good laughs in this "Jewploitation" movie. The jokes don't always hit, but enough do to make it enjoyable. The best role for Adam Goldberg since Dazed and Confused (not saying much, but still...). And Andy **** was an interesting Santa. The Man Who Wasn't There - nice Coen Brothers take on film noir. A low key Billy Bob Thornton and stylish cinematography were both perfect. Good movie.

I had a problem with the writing in his previous movie Adoration. I don't think he writes with a very mature voice. only enjoyable part of the movie for me. otherwise, it is a film full of unpleasant and uninteresting characters. it was the first truly off film from the coen brothers. The Man Who Wasn't There - nice Coen Brothers take on film noir. I'm in the minority here, but I loved Burn After Reading.I didn't care for Burn After Reading. I felt like it was kinda like Fargo trying to be a comedy and didn't pull it off real well (except for J.K. Simmons and the "creation" in the basement)

flick. The premise has been done before But still enjoyable.. 3.5 out 5
That is probably the highest rating this movie has received in here.I personally thought that it was almost entirely awful.Watched "Eagle Eye".. Pretty enjoyableflick. The premise has been done before

Definitely worth watching again without the editing. I saw it in theaters originally, but I rented the DVD when it came out to watch the extended version (I think an extra 20-30 minutes) and thought that was even better. This movie would have been perfectly fine as a short 25 minute film. But I didn't need to see 90 minutes of it. Still, Rockwell always rocks.Moon - Enjoyable watch. Sam Rockwell proves, to me at least, that he can carry a movie, literally, by himself. The premise was pretty cool but towards the end I didn't feel like anything really remarkable had happened. I can see why people respected the movie but it wasn't the best of last year. It was a good debut from a rookie director.

As I've mentioned many times.. I am a "simpleton" when it comes to movies. If it has good action and even a semblance of a story line I tend to give it a higher rating than a lot. this is a fun movie, based on a fun kipling story. caine and connery have a nice easy rapport throughout. caine definitely steals the show. iirc, caine met his wife on the set of the film too. one of john huston's fine little films. The Man Who Would Be King
For some reason, I grew up with a strong disliking to Michael Caine. I literally refused to watch anything he was in. Boy, was I missing out on some great stuff as I go back through his catalog of films. They just don't make adventure tales like this (outside of Lord of the Rings) anymore. Relies a little too much on narration on the beginning and drags just a little bit in the middle, but still a great film.

I haven't seen this movie, but Melissa Leo is awesome. Her character on Homicide is one of the best casting decisions in the history of TV. The casting on that show was brilliant. For the first time ever, here was a show where the cops actually looked like cops. Finally caught Frozen River on the Netflix stream a few days ago. Nice little flick. I got engrossed in the tension of the last half hour or so. I was a regular viewer of "Homicide: Life on the Street" back in the day, so I was happy to see Melissa Leo on screen again. She was fantastic.

The Lovely Bones: This movie really drives home the importance of post production film editing because whoever was in charge of it for this film (I'm looking at you Peter Jackson) was horrible. This movie had an interesting enough premise (many film approach the premise of the dead viewing life from the other side) but it just seemed to have no idea what it wanted to be.
Three scenes jump out as examples of this:
2) Susan Sarrandon as the zany mother-in-law coming to stay with the family. - Okay wtf? Did I suddenly end up in a romantic comedy with Hugh Grant and J-Lo? This sequence had no place in this movie.
3) Ronan's anger in the afterlife influencing Wahlberg and making him pursue Tucci with the baseball bat. While I like how they resolved that scene the fact that Ronan, who previously suggested no remorse at her death, A) was now angry at Tucci & B) her mood influencing the living were just sprung upon the audience out of nowhere. Zero development of these premises prior to that scene.
Bonus #4) So now she can not only be seen by the living, which I thought was well established early in the film, but she can possess them too? And she decides to not go to heaven because she has business to take care of on earth then it turns out that business is to kiss the British tool (our happy Hollywood ending) instead of y'know, draw some attention to the guy who is dumping her body in the sinkhole. Sure we get to satisfy our need for justice (revenge/blood lust) a little later but the wheels completely fell off for me at this point.
*** SPOILER ALERT! Click this link to display the potential spoiler text in this box. ***");document.close();I am not sure if the last two are entirely an editing flaw, poor storytelling or both. But they all really detracted from what I thought was a movie with much greater potential.
Ultimately I left this film thinking "What the hell was that supposed to be about?" and "It could have been 30 minutes shorter too."
Way too much crap infused into the storyline and way too much quality missing.Really? What were you envisioning, close up genital mutilations?Last Airbender - Had to see for myself. Not as bad as I envisioned, but bad. (The Happening was worse than this though). Lot of money up on the screen, but the script/acting/direction are all DOA. No life in this movie at all, simply an excuse to jump from set piece to set piece and CGI effect to CGI effect. That's not always a bad thing, but here it's just plain boring. Given what I've read about the animated series, this was a real missed opportunity.
All good points with the spoilers. #2 didnt have any place, but I did enjoy Sarandon's character so that sequence didnt bother me all that much. As for #4, I was thinking the same thing as far as why she did what she did instead of impacting what was happening 50 feet anyway. Thought the movie was okay, but your points about it make me realize why I didnt like it as much as I thought I would/should.The Lovely Bones: This movie really drives home the importance of post production film editing because whoever was in charge of it for this film (I'm looking at you Peter Jackson) was horrible. Dont remember much about this movie, but I remember it being decent. Nothing all that good, but not bad either.Mean Creek
I usually get into these dark teen brooding types of dramas (Donnie Darko, Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys), but this one really didn't work for me. It's quality filmmaking, but I just couldn't relate to the characters for the most part (don't these kids laugh?), especially in the third act. And the soundtrack was great in bits, but after an entire movie of it, it was just too much. Some excellent acting by both Josh Peck and Rory Caulkin.
2.5/5
Thats about my feelings about it. I thought the fat bully (Josh Peck) looked familiar, I can't believe he grew up to be the skinny drug dealer kid in the Wackness.Dont remember much about this movie, but I remember it being decent. Nothing all that good, but not bad either.Mean Creek

I watch a lot of really bad Direct to Video stuff, so I've seen much worse. I had set my bar pretty low for this film, but I'll admit it was higher before I read the reviews.I liked the concept of the story, just not how it was stated or acted.Really?
