I believe I heard somewhere (probably here) that Portis felt his groin "pop" - reminded me of when Fred Taylor hurt his groin, heard a pop, and he was done for the year when getting injured in week one.Taylor was still at the beginning of his prime and would then eventually shed his fragile image - an image cemented by that game one injury. Portis, with all his miles, might very well be done. The Washington Post suggests that Clinton Portis "has played his last game" for the Redskins.
To be more specific, it was one reporter with the Washington Post, Jason Reid, suggesting that. Shanahan also had high words of praise for Portis, but Rotoworld chose not to report that. The Washington Post suggests that Clinton Portis "has played his last game" for the Redskins.
Portis' recovery from a separated groin will be no easy task, and first-year Redskins coach Mike Shanahan is pursuing a "roster overhaul" that includes replacing declining veterans with younger players in at least some cases. Said Shanahan Wednesday of Ryan Torain, "He’s a top back in the National Football League. There’s no question about it."
This part is entirely Rotoworld's opinion.Portis is a good bet to end up on injured reserve. He won't see a dime of his $8.254 million salary in 2011.

Something completely separated from the bone.I believe I heard somewhere (probably here) that Portis felt his groin "pop" - reminded me of when Fred Taylor hurt his groin, heard a pop, and he was done for the year when getting injured in week one.

FYI, Taylor was "week to week" that year. Wasn't IRd (at least not for the majority of the season). Now, Portis is not a top 10 pick anymore as Taylor was that year, but I would have a hard time seeing Portis come back in any meaningful way this year fantasy wise.In terms of NFL, Portis does not have to come back as a full time back - or get many carries at all. That's over at this point. However, he is a vet leader (a bit crazy, but a leader none the less) and I think Shanny and Co. wouldnt mind having him back, in a limited role to help the younger guys who get the reps.Something completely separated from the bone.I believe I heard somewhere (probably here) that Portis felt his groin "pop" - reminded me of when Fred Taylor hurt his groin, heard a pop, and he was done for the year when getting injured in week one.link"Hopefully, it'll be four weeks rather than six weeks, but a third-degree separation is off the bone. I smashed my piggy bank with a hammer this week for Torain. I sure hope it was worth it..Gota love Torain this week, the packer defense is giving up 5.2 yards an attempt to RB's. The packers defense couldn't stop your grandma if she was the starting the RB for the Skins.Start TORAIN if you gota em.
im pretty high on torain but this is an outrageous offer.Just got an offer of Miles Austin for Hakeem Nicks and Torain. I'm fine at RB so I think I'm going to take it. Don't mean to hijack the thread but I am just trying to gauge his value.
Not to nitpick, but like others have mentioned, much of the damage was inflicted by Vick (11 for 103) and S.Hill (4 for 53). If you take away those 156 yards by QB's, the GB defense would be giving up less than 80 yards per game.Gota love Torain this week, the packer defense is giving up 5.2 yards an attempt to RB's. I would take that trade in a minute. Miles Austin has proven that he is a force that is here to stay... I like Torain, but he has yet to prove that he can stay healthy... and I like Nicks as well, but the weather in the Meadowlands can be be pretty lousy down the stretch with respect to the passing game. Since you have that depth at RB, there is only upside for you in this case.Just got an offer of Miles Austin for Hakeem Nicks and Torain. I'm fine at RB so I think I'm going to take it. The Packers lost two linebackers this week and their starting safety. Start Torain with confidence and enjoy the points. I'm a Packer fan and I'd be shocked if he didn't have 100 yards and at least one score. Not to nitpick, but like others have mentioned, much of the damage was inflicted by Vick (11 for 103) and S.Hill (4 for 53). I would agree with the thought process here with respect to the opportunity side but on the talent side, I believe Torain is a 4-6 week plug-in at best. I realize his pro career hasn't exactly been blessed with the best luck but I still have to believe that if the guy truly has lead back/RB2 ability, he wouldn't have as many "stickers on his suitcase" as he does...Yes, because he is the bell cow for the next 4-6 weeks at the very least and possibly even when Portis comes back. Those who landed him have essentially gotten a #1 RB, on a seemingly team that is moving towards the run, behind one of the best running coaches in the game. Lynch has upside as he has been to the Pro-bowl and is obviously talented, but he has not impressed ### of late. Averaging something like 4.0 YPC which is not bad mind you but certainly not impressive. I also don't see Forsett being completely forgotten in the Seattle running game. The edge Lynch does have though is that he has no CP coming back, and he does not have a terrible history of injury like Torain. Bell is the bottom of the list to me. He is a one week filler that does not impress anymore. As for Shanny having his flavor of the week, I don't think there is another RB on the roster that serves to eat up too many carries of Torain's. Keiland Williams was sent to the practice squad in favor of Torain and while he seems high on both backs, Williams seems to be more of a 3rd down pass in the backfield sort of RB.
Umm...two? Hasn't he only been in Denver and Washington?I would agree with the thought process here with respect to the opportunity side but on the talent side, I believe Torain is a 4-6 week plug-in at best. Two teams yes but when I look at his pro resume, I don't exactly see the prototypical career path of an NFL starter. I was able to get him off waivers and hope he will be what I think he is, a flex/bye week plug-in or serviceable "Plan B" on a fantasy team that has seen some injuries. Is there something controversial about tempering my expectations from a guy who didn't make this football team in Sept?Umm...two? It happens. Right place, right time, right system. He didn't make the football team because he can't play special teams. They couldn't afford to have 3 RBs who can't play special teams.I am pretty confident the staff knew he was better than Larry Johnson. They kept Larry Johnson on the active roster over him because they paid Larry $10.5 for 3 years. Don't know how much of that guaranteed, but likely enough to give him even more games to prove his worth.Torain's history isn't that bad. He's a good fit for Shanahan's system, and Shanahan knows this.* Drafted by Shanahan* Made starter wk10 as a rookie by Shanahan* ACL injury in his first start* Shanahan fired* Cut by new coaching staff after drafting a RB in Rd1 (Moreno) and signing a veteran FA (Buck)* Picked up Shanahan in new gig after fully recovered from ACL* Veteran cut early in the season to make way for him* Starts wk 5 of essentially his 2nd NFL season. He essentially only played for one team (Shanahan's team). Is Torain the next Arian Foster? Heck no. But at this point he's the best RB on Washington. Two teams yes but when I look at his pro resume, I don't exactly see the prototypical career path of an NFL starter. Outrageous for who? If im the Torain owner and Im set at RB, I probably take it, but in my non-ppr league, Nicks the #4 WR after 4 weeks - and thats with Eli struggling.im pretty high on torain but this is an outrageous offer.Just got an offer of Miles Austin for Hakeem Nicks and Torain. Dont worry about the 2nd sentence, as its pointless outside of trade considerations (and that half of those guys are head and shoulders better than Torain)Portis' situation doesnt bother me at all. Out 6 weeks seems generous for a grade 3 groin tear where the muscle rips off the bone. 6 weeks sounds more like he starts practicing in 6 weeks, not starting. So lets say he actually sees the field after 8 weeks of being out. That puts us at week 12. How many carries is he going to get those first few weeks? 5? 8? Whether he gets put on IR or not, for fantasy purposes in 2010, Portis looks done to me and is dead roster weight. Based on this reasoning, I dropped him yesterday for Brandon Tate.cvnpoka said:what can we project for this guy? lets assume portis doesnt come back, bc, well, i iamad but the freakin groin ripped off the bone.
who would you prefer the rest of the year? gore, turner, hillis, sjax, best, charles, forte, barber etc.
its a snap accept for the torain owner in just about every scenario.Outrageous for who? I owned Taylor that year.... Taylor pwn3d me that year....I believe I heard somewhere (probably here) that Portis felt his groin "pop" - reminded me of when Fred Taylor hurt his groin, heard a pop, and he was done for the year when getting injured in week one.Taylor was still at the beginning of his prime and would then eventually shed his fragile image - an image cemented by that game one injury. I must say - I LIKE that Rotoworld goes out on a limb with their analysis. I like that they say what they think the eventual outcome will be, putting themselves at risk. That's what I want. I'm smart enough to take their opinion on the news with a grain of salt but appreciate hearing that opinion. To be more specific, it was one reporter with the Washington Post, Jason Reid, suggesting that. That's my take. Since my team is replete with RB2's I didn't try to make a play for him in waivers. As for Torain, if stays healthy I think he'll be a consistent RB2.
eta--his schedule isn't too favorable re: SOSIt is?its a snap accept for the torain owner in just about every scenario.Outrageous for who? No, Austin for Hakeem Nicks AND Ryan Torain. And I took it, so no turning back now.nicks and austin for torain? yes i would almost always take those 2 wr.

No, I think he is better than Harrison. This week I take him over Forte, and next week I take him playing Indy, versus Forte playing against Seattle. We will see how he performs this weekend before I go beyond that. Then on Monday we can see how he stacks up against Forte, because then he will have one solid week under his belt as the clear #1. I think Portis is getting up in age (I had him last year and watched every game) and poor Forte just has no decent blocking and with Cutler one helmet slap away from 3 weeks off, I felt I needed to get some depth.SwampNow I reread this and just cry, yes cry....Swampswampdog, you think torain is better than forte? that was about where i was considering his value as well.
Washington Redskins RB Keiland Williams was promoted from the practice squad to the 53-man roster on Friday. He had been released on October 2nd and re-signed on October 6th. Williams is expected to be active vs. the Packers, reports Jason Reid of the Washington Post.Analysis: The Redskins had an open roster spot because they released WR Devin Thomas. Williams might assume the kickoff return job vacated by Thomas, or he could be back in the mix on third downs. Either way, Mike Shanahan would love nothing more than to put a little scare into Ryan Torain's fantasy owners.
RB is just as thin for the Skins. They needed Williams for depth. Doesn't Simpson play mainly on special teams?WR is so thin for the Skins that I have to think cutting Thomas to make room for Kieliand says something about Torrain. Maybe it's just a health concern, but it has to be a concern.
Lets not forget who is running the show over there. The waterboy could suit up and produce for the Skins this week....I think Torain has a good chance to produce the rest of the way but you can't forget the torment that is the Shananigans running game. He has made fantasy footballers lose their mind over who is going to be "The Man". Torain has no competition atm so it seems clear. But in my eyes it is never clear until we see a string of games to show what is really going on. Once he has "his man" then it should be smooth sailing. Torain might be it.Drop/bench PortisGrab Williams...Drop Williams...Grab Torain....To be continued.......
I do think for the next week or two, Torain has to be thr primary, simply becuase he's been practicing with the team. After that there are no guarantees, however. If you picked up Torain to fill in bye weeks this week and next - you should be living high off the hog. If you picked him to make your playoff run, it looks decent, but is hardly as promising (unless he absolutely tears it up and (IF?) stays healthy.I don't think so, GB. Shanny likes Keiland's pass-pro skills on 3rd downs. That's about it.If my fantasy season goes into the crapper because Torain gets hurt and then KEILAND WILLIAMS blows up.... well, so be it.Torrian owners might want to consider adding Keiland Williams as insurance, just in case Torrian "drops the ball".
