What's up everybody -- long time, no speak! I know this was conspiciously absent for all of last year, surely to many of the former participants dismay, but let's not dwell on that. Let us instead dwell on the fact that, while a bit late, my 2nd sometimes-annual NFL Props and Over/Under Pickems contest is back in action starting Week 9 -- this week -- of this season! I think I speak for all of us when I say, "HOOORRRAYYYYYY!"
Just like last time, there's no complicated and lengthy sign-up process. All you need to do to join in on the fun is reply to this thread with your entry name for the contest (for when I post the standings each week -- there's no need to include this if you just want your forum handle to be used for your name) and, of course, the answers to this weeks questions. I will selflessly and honorably keep score all by myself because, well, that's just the type of guy that I am! Thank you, thank you but there's no need to applaud -- oh stop it -- sit down!
While it would be fun to play this to see who wins even if there weren't prizes involved, we're going to -- actually, who am I kidding? It wouldn't be very much fun at all if there were no prizes! But thankfully for you all, I'm going to provide prizes for the top three participants come the end of the season/contest. I'm not entirely sure what they'll be at this point, but maybe we can vote as we get closer to the end of the year to see what they'll be. To give you a rough guesstimate of the type of loot to expect, first prize will likely receive an NFL player jersey of their choice with second and third place maybe receiving gift certificates to the NFL Gift Shop Zone (or whatever it's called these days) or perhaps a framed, autographed picture of me typing up a random weeks contest questions. We shall see! But don't worry, the first place prize will be sick and the second and third place prizes will be worth trying to finish in the money, this much is for certain. And if you don't participate in this contest then you will definitely be hurtin for certain! Haha, sorry, I've wanted to say that for the longest time...
Contest Rules and Notes
You're responsible for keeping track of any out-of-the-blue type injuries in regards to the player props -- I'm mostly going to aim to post the questions on Wednesday or Thursday at the latest, and probably won't have the time to come back and edit them should anything happen -- besides, it would be too difficult because some people might have chosen them as their answer and I'd hafta contact them etc, etc. Anyhow, just stay brushed up on the news throughout the week and should one of the options end up not playing or anything, view it as an extra plus to improve your odds of getting the question right. Please do not post a reply identifying anything in regards to this as it will be an unfair advantage to anyone who does their questions after reading it. Honestly though, I'm quite confident that more or less everyone who joins this contest will stay up-to-date regarding player injury news and what-not. This is the Shark Pool, after all...
Also, the deadline for entries each week is 12:30PM EST each Sunday. Any entries posted after this deadline will not be counted for the week, unfortunately. You'll all have plenty of time to get your entries in each week so I don't want to hear any biatching. I know Thursday game's start next week but there probably won't be any questions referring to that game unless I manage to post questions on Monday or Tuesday... I don't really know yet, but for now, the deadline is the one stated above.
The contest will be limited to 75 initial entries total. Starting at the end of Week 10, there will also be a cut-off week-to-week to thin the herd, kind of survivor-style or how the FBG Subscriber's Contest works. It won't be much, probably 10-15% from week-to-week (again, starting at the end of Week 10) -- we'll just have to wait and see how things shake out. This method basically helps prevent me from calculating 75 different scores each-and-every week. I don't mind it, but eventually it can get quite monotonous and repetitive, so this way at least keeps everything fresh. It should also add an entirely different level of excitement, drama and desperation which, as we all know, are always good things to have present in any contest.
Scoring Settings (for fantasy point questions)
The scoring system used for fantasy point questions will be the default used at most league sites Internet-wide -- save for the 5 bonus points for 100 total yards of kickers field goal kick yardage -- hey, everyone else gets bonus yardage for having monster games, why not kickers? Here's the scoring values:
NON-PPR, 1 point per 10 rushing/receiving yards, 1 point per 25 passing yards, 6 points per rushing, receiving or defensive/special team touchdown, 4 points per passing touchdown, -1 point per interception, -1 point per fumble, 5 bonus points per 100 yards rushing or receiving or 300 yards passing or 100 total field goal yards (all successful field goal kick yardage combined), 1 point per successful extra point attempt, -1 point per unsuccessful extra point attempt, 3 points per 1-39 yard field goals, 4 points per 40-49 yard field goals, 5 points per 50+ yard field goals.
I'll also be posting the IDP scoring values in next week's post since we won't be doing any IDP fantasy point questions until then.
Anyway, without further ado, let's get to the Week 9's questions!
