So the old man is racist. The black woman decides to stay back and he doesn't say anything. Blondie decides to stay and he has this emotional breakdown and refuses to leave unless she does. Pathetic.

I could poop better writing than what I saw tonight.
Please do this. $20 says you can't.
Why would I work for you?It would cost you far more than $20.
You poop for free so I would think $20 would be a pretty big incentive over doing it for free. Scared?
I think he's saying he can't and he's trying to walk it back. :goodposting:
I'm not walking nothing back - i am just not going to write something you and your ilk will just tear apart.**MODS alias check please.

What did doc whisper to Rick before they left?
I thought it might that one of the survivors is infected after all. Pretty sure we weren't meant to know.
:goodposting:

Hence it being whispered?

My thought was that the other sister was infected. Wasn't she feeling a little under the weather?
I thought she was at first, the trailers from the previous episode helped set this up though. It looks like she is just going through a breakdown after bonding with her sister then having her die and blowing her brains out.Perhaps Doc didn't want to tell Rick he needs a cool tie and white jacket like he has instead of the stupid sheriff getup and then everyone will respect him.

Well, he did say in the last episode something to the effect that the two sisters had made him feel for other people for the first time since losing his family. He felt close to them.

This is an ironic use of that word in this context. And you're scared to write an episode...perhaps I should call Cunk. He poops better stuff before breakfast. :lmao:

I think the CDC angle is lame.

It makes sense for them to go there, but the entire purpose of the doctor character was to give the viewers some explanation of what is happening.

This falls in line with 99.9% of other mainstream TV/movies, where the writers feel a need to wrap everything up in a pretty bow so the dumb as dog-**** audience can follow along. Heaven forbid anything gets left up to interpretation and/or imagination.

Zombies are walking around, do you really need to waste an entire episode in an already short first season, so the characters can learn about brain synapses?

The "WHY" is no where near as interesting as the "WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?"

Right but it looked bad. I'm sure if there were any African-American fans of the show before the episode, there aren't any left.

Then stop whining about the writing on the show.
Oh for Christ's sake. I suppose we should just shut down the Shark Pool while we're at it, since I assume most of us can't play NFL caliber football. Yet we somehow persist in having opinions about who is, and who is not, a decent NFL player. I'm glad you like the show. Some of us don't. And some of us might even express that opinion in this thread. Some of us will quit watching (I don't intend to pick it up again next year), but some may still continue watching in hope it will get better. I'm sure we'll all survive.

If you have read the comic it is easy to guess what was whispered in Rick's ear.

If you haven't, you will probably never guess. But it should make for a great storyline next season....

Wasn't the sister planning on staying at the time? I would think it was something personal about his family or wife/shane (thus the reason for whispering it.)

Apparently we are watching different shows if you truly think this is the case. The old dude pretty clearly made his case for why he would stay in the previous episode when the little sister went flesh eater.

It's got to be the blood tests, doubtful someone is infected now that I think about it, he wouldn't have allowed them to stay...maybe loris prego...with shanes kid! Oh noes! That's my guess.

Dunno - maybe she thought there was a chance she was infected. I think the doctor guy said the longest incubation period they saw was 20hours or something, so she would have shown signs. MAYBE the virus was in somebody's blood, but they don't have symptoms yet. They have a walking cure in the group !! The whisper is something like this "protect X at all costs - they might have a natural antidote in their blood".

You could be right - there are probably security cameras around the building and maybe he saw the incident between Shane and the wife.

Also, how long should they wait before they start the repopulation program? I mean, perpetuation of our species should be a pretty high priority. All of the wimmin's folk should be pregnant by now...

Why would that be a secret only Rick should know?

Yeah, if that's what it is - for him to tell Rick like that would seem to imply that he knew the back story and thought that Rick didn't know.

Also if someone was a maybe walking cure, why wouldn't the doctor leave with them to try and develop the cure? Why leave that up to Rick a county sheriff.

All of his equipment was destroyed in the episode before that I thought, and he was just about to kill himself in that episode too.

Sigh. I gave up. I wanted to like this show more than anything. The first episode gave me great hope for it. But I'm out after the 5th one. I didn't even watch sunday's.

Have fun guys.

Sadly, it's some of the best zombie effects ever surrounded by a stupid show. Really disappointed.

Just spitballin' here, butIf somebody has a natural antitode, could it be Rick? Per Shane, it seemed as though his heart was stopped...

I find this highly possible. Just don't understand why the doctor who stayed until the end would all of a sudden say "By the way Rick you're the cure and hope of mankind but I'm out. Good Luck"

The more I watch this show, the more convinced I am that the writers purposefully tried to keep it from going anywhere in the first six episodes so that they could save the more interesting stuff for a full season. Unfortunately, that really turned me off. A horror show needs surprises. It needs to have a real sense of danger. At a minimum, I think someone important who we're led to believe we're supposed to care about needs to die.

For me, as a matter of construction, they killed the wrong sister. Not that they spent much time on anyone, but she's the one we've just escaped from Atlanta with. She's the one we know a bit about. It would have been a far better curveball to have her die, and for the innocent, younger sister to have learn how to carry-on and lose her humanity and innocence in the process.

Moving the rest of the discussion (which deals with what I understand happened in the comics) behind spoiler tags.

I think it's a big mistake to save any resolution of the Shane/Rick/Lori storyline for next year. As I understand it, the comics have Carl killing Shane to save Rick's life. That would have been a decent choice, but they didn't need to do that. Maybe end the season exactly the way they did, but have Lori killed by Walkers while escaping the CDC. So Rick and Shane can both hate/blame one another, but need to stay together as the two most competent members of the campers (I assume the Doc told Rick that Lori is pregnant, and that Rick realizes he couldn't be the father).

In any case, either decision would let us know (1) no character is safe on the show, and (2) the remaining characters have real issues to work through in the wake of the loss.

*** SPOILER ALERT! Click this link to display the potential spoiler text in this box. ***");document.close();As the season played out, I think we got a fairly unsatisfying through-line. Essentially, they just confirmed that there is no cavalry to make this right. But they made the same point multiple times. Both when Rick first goes to Atlanta and then when he goes to the CDC. It's not really dramatic enough to carry six hours of television.

The writing sucks. The writing sucks. The writing sucks. The writing sucks. The writing sucks. Also. The writing sucks.
:) :goodposting: The only thing that separates "The Walking Dead" from one of those throw-away SyFy channel originals is the decent cast and high production value. I gave this show a shot but it's pretty weak as a whole.

So is that guess correct as far as what you were hinting at happened in the comic?

I've realized I love this show's potential and premise much more than the actual execution. I'll tune in next year with the hope the writers can do a better job.
Reminds me of the way I felt about NBC's "Heroes". Went from "Wow, a show about superheroes!" to "Geez, this show makes Smallville seem exciting"
Note to writers: MOAR ZOMBIES PLEASE!
:lmao: People didn't turn to this show because they wanted fireside dialogue and a soap opera romantic triangle.Haven't the writers for this show ever played a "zombie" video game? Left 4 Dead 2? Resident Evil 4? Tension.....dialogue......tension......tension......Zombie attack!

I assume it was that I take solace in the fact Darabont is replacing the entire writing staff for Season 2. I think the massive success of the show will allow Darabont the chance to fix what ails it (which is plenty) and attract some top notch writers seeing as how the show is a ratings rock star and they now have a certainty of Season 2 and, quite likely, well beyond that given how much higher this show is rating than what AMC expected or needed it to in order to continue it on for years.

doesn't look like it. if you read the link, he's considering having no writing staff and just going with freelancers.

The fact Darabont is staying on and wants to be so hands on is a huge boon for me. He was planning on riding off into the sunset after Season One. To me, Darabont plus freelancers of his choice (given his considerable rolodex) = many Xs better than what we got this year.

It looks like there is going to be some changes in the writers for the series in the second season ... http://www.deadline.com/2010/12/the-walkin...f-for-season-2/
Well it couldn't get any worse.
The thing is that Darabont apparently either wrote, co-wrote, or extensively re-wrote every episode this season, despite who was credited. Which means that whatever he thinks of his writing staff, the final result was his vision. And he's the showrunner. I'm somewhat odd in that I'm not much of a fan of anything Darabont's ever done, including The Shawshank Redemption, so I'm probably overly pessimistic.

 I mentioned this about Darabont a while back when the news came out about the writers. Looking at the AMC site for the writers it seems that anything with his name attached to it were the worst episodes.

That was my hunch as well. She was holding her sister who was a bloddy mess...I knew that could not be good.

My wife and I loved the show and look forward to next season which should be even better.

And now I see the spoiler tag...yeah very well may be that too and the whole question of who.......you know where I am going with this.
