Not at all. I would skip 1 as well. 2 is well worth your time if you can find it. The graphics aren't modern-day cutting edge, but definitely fall into the "good enough" category.

Personal favorites so far from a member of the peanut gallery who did nothing but play video games from 1981-1990:

ROUND 1

2. biggamer3 Super Mario Bros. (NES)

- Still remember the look on my parents' faces when they woke up and saw their 9 & 8 year old children still playing this at 8am after their first ever all-nighter.

3. Andy Dufresne - Tecmo Super Bowl (NES)

- Played a ton of the original and this, 4-person arcade version was sweet too.

ROUND 2

7. wazoo11 Street Fighter II (Arcade)

- Remember how fun this was in the arcade and people lining up to play it and marveling at the ones who had mastered it.

8. Yo Mama ET (Atari 2600)

- Worst game easily, I remember how much this game confused us when we tried to play it and how pissed I was when I found out it just didn't really work.

10. madshot31 NHL '94 (Genesis)

- Great game, still remember playing the first one for hours... "The fierce fish win the cup!"

13. pollardsvision Doom (PC)

- Played this a bunch Frosh year of college when we discovered the magic of the school network for multiplayer.

1. pollardsvision Mike Tyson Punch-Out (NES)

- Great arcade game and great port, I still have a PCB for a spin off game that I wanted to use to build a hybrid cabinet mod that I won't spotlight even though I'm sure it won't get picked.

4. larry_boy_44 Donkey Kong (Arcade)

- One of my earliest memories of playing an arcade game, I was never into Pac-Man that much.

13. pollardsvision Pro Wrestling (NES)

- Glad to see someone else loved this game as much as I did.

3. Andy Dufresne Star Wars (Arcade/1983)

- Not sure how many visits to the arcade it took before my pulse stopped jumping up when I would see this game.

9. Slax Mega Man II (NES)

- Fun game and sort of a puzzle to figure out the right method to beat the bad guys

12. Mario Kart Dragon's Lair (Arcade)

- My strongest arcade memories revolve around this game, probably my favorite ever and I own a string of all the ports on several systems over the years. Currently play on the iPhone with my kids sometimes.

13. BlueDredSo Super Mario Kart (SNES)

- Didn't have this but Mario Kart Wii is a blast.

ROUND 6

2. Mario Kart Gauntlet (Arcade)

- Great arcade game and playing along with (against? for food) strangers/friends made it more fun.

6. bmarks6161 Quake (PC)

- Probably the last video game I played with any regularity. The rail gun kicked ###.

4. Yo Mama Contra (NES)

- Awesome game, would sit for hours playing through, and who doesn't know UUDDLRLRBAStart?

- First? and one of my favorite team beat-em-ups.

2. Mario Kart Phantasy Star (Sega MS)

- Phantasy Star II made such a big impact on my brother and I that I even referenced it in my best man speech at his wedding.

- My very first video game, got it with the 2600 for Christmas.

- Very simple but very fun

1. pollardsvision Blades of Steel (NES)

- Awesome game and fonder memories that the Sega NHL series. Placed in a BOS tourney at a McDonald's by my house and won some free gift certificates.

There's a few more games that really stand out in my mind and looking forward to if and when they'll get picked.

13.9 Assassin's Creed 2, Seventh Generation, XBox 360

When Ubisoft released the first Assassin's Creed, the game showed a lot of promise but fell short of greatness. The sequel, however, delivers! Everything that was broken in the first game was fixed and revamped, while everything that worked was polished up to provide a beautiful game. With an even more interesting character, story and settings including the Tuscany region (Florence, Monteriggioni and San Gimignano) and the Apennine Mountains, Venice and Rome. It's been said that the locations on the map specifically coordinate with where they can be found in the real world and you can find landmarks in-game by consorting with Google Earth. The beautiful sights have been noted as something of interest for travelers who have visited these areas in person.

Did I mention that the game is awesome too? Just wanted to make sure.

it might not have the Fifa license and the EA "flair", but PES/W11 is typically the better game of the two every year...

Very nostalgic thread.

As a kid when consoles were first hitting the mainstream, it was such an exciting time. I remember Andy mentioning the thrill of going to arcade rooms and that was certainly a thrill. I'm probably a little too young to remember them as well as some others here, but I remember going and having a blast.

What I also remember is having to nag my parents for quarters. That's what made consoles so exciting. No more quarters. Being bad at a game was no longer a very expensive problem and you no longer had to go to the back of the line when you lost. Throwing a game into the Atari or NES, you really felt like you were stealing something everytime you played a game and didn't have to pay. We were like little cokeheads that had just stumbled upon a virtually unlimited supply. It was quite a time.

Double Dragon and Super Off-Road were my favorite arcade games and I felt like such a pimp to have them in my home to play anytime I wanted.

Alright, alright, I have many ways to go here. I have four games queued up and I don't think any of them are going to be picked anytime soon. So, I am going to take the one that might get taken or has a higher probability of getting taken. I am all about innovation however simplicity also plays a role. Before there is complexity there has to be simplicity. Before smooth scrolling games there had to be games full of flicker. Before games with ten, eleven, twelve steps to solve a puzzle, there had to be games with fewer steps. That is just he way it is. Before games like SimCity and Civilization with many moving parts, there had to be games with many fewer moving parts. Popularity of these games gave rise to the SimCity's, Civilizations and so on. This game has spawned many, and I mean many sequels as well as many, and I mean many ports. From hand helds to consoles to phones to wherever else, I give you:

13.12 - Bomberman - Strategy - NES

this game, like Mario, could have other versions taken however the good old NES version is probably where it gained its most notoriety. Its subsequent sequels may look nicer and play better but Bomberman is Bomberman no matter the incarnation. I am keeping the NES version for its strategy however other Bomberman games use multiplayer modes. In theory this single version is multiplayer because more than one person could be in the room to help solve the puzzles yet only one person controls Bomberman.

Awesome, again, I have three games in my queue. I think one might get taken before my next pick if people actually think but I am going this route instead. My user name is Mario Kart and while Mario Kart is good, it needs to give props to another game first. There are other racing games that owe much to the popularity of this one. Yes, Mario Kart is good but before Mario Kart and its green shells, blue shells, speed bursts, and so on, the NES had a racing game above all. The ability to upgrade your vehicle, shoot other vehicles, get stopped by obstacles began with this game... in theory. Even Super Off Road owes something to this game. Simplistic in nature, fun as always, and revolutionary to boot. Make way, make way, for this game:

Their has to be some adventure in it because a pure action games could be almost anything. Here's what has been drafted for it so far. I believe they all fit well enough.Action/Adventure1. This game is just awesome, even if there is absolutely no action in it at all.

It is one of the first games ever released on CD, and is credited in part for the format's success. It was the best selling PC game of all time until "The Sims" was released in 2002 (it was released on Sept. 24, 1993. Meaning it was best selling for 10 years, even over a number of games that have already been drafted)...

I don't even know what else to say about the greatness of this game... It was that good. I remember playing it when I was a kid (I was 9 in 1993, it was probably 1994 when we got it) and I didn't have a clue what was going on, but could STILL play this game for hours it was so breathtaking, I just wanted to see what I would see in the next room (if I could ever figure out how to get there!!!)

14.5 Daytona USA, Arcade

Daytona USA was a exciting, fun arcade racing game made by Sega and according to Wikipedia, the highest grossing arcade machine of all-time. In the mid-90's, any arcade worth their salt had a row of these machines sitting in a row, front and center when you walked in and was viewable by anyone who walked by.

The sole survivor of the incident, Isaac became stranded in space for several periods before he was rescued by a EarthGov ship. Three years after, Isaac was held in an asylum on the Sprawl and classified as to having dementia, PTSD and amnesia by psych-therapist.
