Arian Foster Week 2 Status (1 Viewer)

it sounds like foster lost his job actually
Do I remember correctly that last year, in preseason or before, Tate was actually ahead of Foster before Tate got hurt?
This is wrong. Everybody wanted to push arian out because tate got drafted in the second round while kubiak was saying all through preseason how comfortable they were with arian.
Agreed, Tate was at best 3rd last year at the time he got hurt. He missed all the OTAs with a hamstring and the coaching staff was referring to Tate with terms like that he was "way behind" where they wanted him to be.
:goodposting: The Arian hate is dumbfounding.

Here was the PFT article about Tate breaking his ankle last year: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/08/15/broken-ankle-expected-to-cost-ben-tate-his-rookie-season/

Broken ankle expected to cost Ben Tate his rookie season

Posted by NBC Sports on August 15, 2010, 9:40 AM EDT

Texans coach Gary Kubiak won’t get to ride rookie running back Ben Tate in practice any longer. The “lower leg” injury Tate suffered Saturday night appears to be a broken right ankle that will knock Tate out for the season, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.

The Texans took Tate late in the second round of April’s draft, and the Auburn back was struggling to adjust to the NFL. Kubiak barked at Tate plenty in practice and through the media, saying Tate had an “up and down” camp and had a “long way to go.”

“I’ve been hard on Ben because he’s going to be a big part of what we do,” Kubiak said this week.

Expected to eventually start, Tate was still running with the third team behind Arian Foster and Steve Slaton. Houston’s improved depth at running back looks less improved now.

You do and now Houston is just going to go back to the better back. Who is now not hurt. Really simple if you ask me.
They also won't have to pay him big money next year. Tate is the man. Many people just won their fantasy leagues.
From your lips to God's ear.

Yeah, some over-the-top stuff thrown around in here.

If Foster plays well, I'm using the next few weeks to try and pry Tate away in all leagues I have Foster, in case of a re-aggrivatrion. Tate is good enough to thrive in this offense almost as well as Arian.

Latest from Rotowire

Foster (hamstring) will start Sunday against Miami, the Houston Chronicle reports. "I think he'll be fine," Houston head coach Gary Kubiak said. "As long as there's no setbacks, he's ready to go." (about 6 hours ago)

And just so others are aware - "no setbacks" would involve somehow tweaking his hamstring doing walk-throughs.It's a shame Manning wasn't coming back this week too, the NFL would almost be back to full strength.

Miami has a pretty good D. I'm starting Hightower and Felix over either, but Tate is the play. They are going to ease Foster back. As a Foster owner, I consider it good news, really.
Yeah, all this talk of twenty touches has me thinking he's back in over Felix this week.

Did you just quote yourself and then respond to what was said? hahaha, nice.Felix over Foster? you're going to be crying in your cornflakes Monday morning. As for Miami's run D... woodhead and BJE avg'd 4.9ypc last weekend.Foster behind the best o-line in the league... fuhgetaboutit.

CBS latest info:

News: Here's the absolute latest on Arian Foster: The Texans had him in practice again on Friday, on a limited basis. After practice, head coach Gary Kubiak said Foster "looked ready to play" and seemed satisfied with how Foster was running but did say he would "definitely" use Ben Tate as part of the Texans running game. The Texans officially listed Foster as questionable for Week 2 at Miami. The Houston Chronicle speculates that Foster will get in the neighborhood of 20 touches while Tate will get 10; Derrick Ward has already been ruled out.
Better than expected. 20 touches would be welcoming but still just speculation. I'm starting him this week. Just need to decide if I should also start Tate.

The real quote is less "damning" towards the running situation.Kubiak basically said the number 2 will always see action (since when don't they). So ya, he'll definitely play.

The rumours that have been flying around about Houston's run game makes it sound like Foster will be a 25 carry guy, and tate a 10-15 on a weekly basis. Straight up, smashmouth football coming out of Houston.

The actual quote:

“He’ll be the next guy,” Kubiak said. “Both of those guys (Foster and Tate) will play, and Steve’s (Slaton) available if we need a third guy. He’s definitely going to play. Our second guy always is going to get some carries and play.”

we should get a list going of what rbs wed play tate over in a flex
I'll personally pass on putting Tate in my flex... Im going to use Vernon Davis.Tate should see about 10 touches... But if Foster is running 100%, and the game is tight... I can't really see Tate being used very much over a proven Foster.

There will likely be enough carries for Tate to have value... But Id rather plug in Davis against a depleted DAL team, where SF will likely need to to throw plenty.

That's me

On the fence between McGahee and Tate. McGahee gets the carries, but the Broncos are the suck. Tate gets less carries, but better team. Probably rolling with Willis.

Yup, had to retort my own post. By the way, I meant back in over Felix.

I think shady was kidding. You and the person you're playing are the only people who care about your starting lineup. Keeping this thread about Fosters playing status for week 2 would be nice.

I really hope that Foster try's to give it a go Today.

News: Texans RB Arian Foster left during Week 2 against the Dolphins after re-aggravating his hamstring injury. Foster appeared to sustain the injury sometime during the first half as he has yet to play after halftime. He rushed for 33 yards on 10 carries prior to leaving the contest and his return is being called questionable. sportsline

"Texans coach Gary Kubiak assured after Sunday's win that Arian Foster is "fine" despite reportedly re-aggravating his injured hamstring in the first half.

"He’s fine," Kubiak said. "He obviously wasn’t himself and got pretty fatigued. He wanted to play in the second half." Foster was obviously angry on the sideline that he wasn't being allowed to play; it appeared the Texans had Foster's helmet taken away from him by a staffer. Foster finished the first two quarters with 40 yards on 12 touches. Kubiak seems to think Foster's physical conditioning is more of a problem than his hamstring: "It's really just fatigue more than anything." We'll see."

GK's credibility is fairly damaged this point.

Still, this Is what Kub said the plan was, to put him on a pitch count. So who knows. All the reaggrevation talk seems to be coming from observers and speculators. Hard to tell what the truth is. We'll see next week, I guess.

I couldn't keep up with all the quotes, but last one I read said something along the lines of, if he starts, there's no holding back or something to that effect. Did he back track on that?

Yes. Said he would not see normal number of snaps. But now it sounds like the hammy tightened up.

Anyone think this affects Foster's contract situation greatly?

They aren't going to pay him a CJ type contract if Tate can do the same thing IMO.

There was a moment in the 3Q where the camera caught Foster looking frustrated on the sideline (my speculation = that he wanted to get back in). He was standing next to one of the asst. coaches who was talking with him and smiling/chuckling.

The type of frustration Foster showed was VERY different from the frustration he showed after "re-tweaking" the hammy during the San Fran preseason game. In that game, he was visibly upset that he'd reinjured himself, slamming his helmet, etc. etc. I never saw any of that in this game.

Maybe Kubiak had a predetermined limit on Foster's touches? Maybe easing him back into game shape to prevent reinjury?

Thats just my conjecture, but read the post-game tweet from John McClain (local Texans beat writer) below:

@McClain_on_NFL John McClain

Gary Kubiak said Foster wasn't hurt, just fatigued. He said he made the decision to go with Tate in the second half and Foster is fine.

Looks like Foster lost his job. Tate is the better back anyways. The texans must be happy this is going down the way it is because they can let Foster walk next year.
