Didn't see a thread so I thought I'd start one up. Andre Johnson is out for awhile, and Jacoby Jones was exposed as a fraud years ago. 37 year old Mason was just acquired, and Iglesias (University of Oklahoma product) was just signed to the practice squad. Translation: there are plenty of targets to be had for Dreesen.

Before week 5, he only had five targets for the season. Last week, he had nine - that is EXCELLENT (almost unheard of) for a #2TE (Daniels is obviously the starter). He had 5 catches for 112 and a TD. I think this continues for the reasons listed in the first paragraph. I always thought he was a decent TE, and he looked good in space last week.

So I think he is a great play until Johnson gets back, especially for those with bye-week issues . . .

:goodposting: I was thinking the same. Only interested in leagues where my TE's leave a bit to be desired. He'll certainly be serviceable at the least..

from Rotoworld:

Joel Dreessen caught five passes for 112 yards and a touchdown in the Texans' Week 5 loss to Oakland.Usually a blocker, Dreessen got more involved in the passing game with the Texans playing from behind and Andre Johnson (hamstring) inactive. It was Dreessen -- not James Casey -- who stepped up as Houston's No. 2 tight end. Casey didn't have a catch. For all we know, it could be Casey in the same role next week against Baltimore. It's a situation to avoid in fantasy. Sunday's yardage total was a career high for the 29-year-old Dreessen
Reasons for optimism: James Casey is out of practice with a pectoral issue and is expected to be a GTD. Houston WR's seem to be in a state of flux and as Casey and Dreessen have shown, it can be anyone stepping up. Reasons for pessimism: Dreesen is a 29 year old blocking TE that just had his career high fantasy point game, and other than a couple of late season garbage time performances, has been a guy that mostly blocks and catches a pass or two here and there. Like James Casey, Dreesen is probably a flash in the pan that is not part of the offensive game plan (at least in any fantasy relevance) going forward.I don't think I'd start Dreesen expecting anything close to 5/121/1 again, and his floor is much closer to 1/11/0. Pass.

Actually, he was a usable fantasy TE in 2010 especially weeks 8-13 or so. Honestly, Texans fans are a bit baffled Kubiak's love of this guy, but he got the targets that a seemly more talented Casey or Graham should have recieved. if you are in deep league or need a desparation TE, rolling the dice with Dressen over the next couple of weeks is better than some of the Fells/Pope things that one could do.

good points but I assume they are using ALOT of 2TE sets - Dreesen is not a stiff, and he was able to get open last week - are they really going to throw it to Jacoby Jones?? we will see what happens . . .

Maybe a sneaky under-the-radar move. I think Joel Dreesen could be good start tonight if Daniels can't go. Bloom doesn't have either Daniels or Dreesen high, but I think that's maybe the effect of them both being potentially viable cancelling each other out. If you were to add up both Daniels and Dreesen's numbers, it could be a nice game for Dreesen. When given an opportunity against Oakland, he did get 5/112/1 earlier in the year. He also came up big last year toward the end of the year. It all depends on Daniels, but I'll be tempted to start him over Kellen Winslow as my opponent is a favorite and I need to be swinging for the fences. From Henry's sleepers report:

Joel Dreessen, Hou at INDOwen Daniels is heading towards a potential game-time decision and the Colts have allowed the fourth most points to TEs this year. Dreessen has 6 TDs this year despite catching only 21 balls. He's also averaging more than 14 yards per catch for the second straight year. With potentially more snaps and targets this week depending on Daniels's status, a great matchup and strong TD and YPC metrics, Dreessen has plenty to offer desperate owners in championship week.
ETA: From Yudkin's last update on fantasy schedule pts allowed for TE's, Indy came in at #10 most allowed, so it's a good matchup from that standpoint.

I also like Travis Beckum as a sleeper TE this week. Jets are horrendous in covering the TE and Ballard is OUT

Thanks for the tip. I just dropped Dreesen now that Daniels is active. If nothing else, it buys me time and keeps a roster spot from locking out. I may just go with Beckum. Got to have more upside than Winslow anyway.

starting to bang the drum for Dreesen again.

Manning's play has piqued my interest, so here goes.

Snap % week 7

Dreesen 73%

Tamme 53%

Snap % Season

Dreesen 72%

Tamme 61%

Passes (targets)

Dreesen 23

Tamme 38

footballoutsiders DYAR (yards above replacement stat) 47 TEs ranked

Dreesen 21 (rank: 18th)

Tamme -49 (rank: 44th)

catch rate (avg for TEs is 63%)

Dreesen 74%

Tamme 61%

in addition, albeit in a limited role, Dreesesen was 9th in DYAR and 2nd in DVOA (another FO stat) in 2011 with Houston.

maybe Denver just now sees that Dreesen is better, and they use the bye week to get him more involved.

Both Tamme and Dreesen are bye week fillers at best. You can't count on either guy. If one of them was to be injured than it would definitely be more interesting. As of rigth now, neither guy warrants enough consistency to be a regular in fantasy.

at this moment - you are correct. Maybe it changes - Manning has always had a viable FF TE, so maybe Dreesen starts to be that after the bye. That is all I am saying.

Dreesen's a terrific athlete, I was hoping the Saints would sign him earlier this year.

He also just beat my team as a bye week fill-in for my opponent. I had thought he was only catching TD passes, so all I had to do was wait out the game and see if he was held out, but then last week Manning went to him often, I knew I was done by the 1st half.

There has been a run on TE's in a lot of leagues and if you don't have a backup there ain't much out there. Dreesen's better than almost all of them at this point.

I'm starting the bandwagon. I may be the only one on it, but I'm on it.

So Tamme has more targets on fewer snaps. Not sure how you got that the Broncos think Dreesseen is better. Dreesseen has had more red-zone targets, but to my Bronco-watching eye, Tamme is the TE Peyton looks to on 3rd down. It doesn't count for FF points, but Tamme is the go-to guy when you've gotta have it.There will be games where Dreesseen has more catches, but IMO Tamme is the guy to have long term.

Not that it really matters. It's not likely that both are there and you have to pick one. I think both are in that TE12-TE20 range...either one is worth owning.

I am just making educated guesses. I have seen most of the Broncos games but I didnt play close attention to the TEs in the games. I am just doing my best to spot a trend.

Also, Dreesen's catches (by game) starting with week 1 :

I have DThomas so I've watched a fair amount of Denver games. Dreessen has clearly become a trusted target for Peyton. Remember, Peyton called Dreessen right after he signed with Denver to recruit him. Dreessen had an offer to stay with the Texans but Peyton talked him into becoming a Bronco.

I picked him up today and will play matchups with him and Chandler the rest of the way. Peyton's considerable history with TE's, combined with the fact that he doesn't have the arm strength anymore to do much more than hit the intermediate routes favored by TE's, leads me to believe this is a solid play. Your rebuttals are welcome.

Love the matchup this week. New Orleans made Dallas Clark look like the Peyton Manning version. Coming off a bye, season high targets and just broke a string of consecutive games with a TD scored. I think he starts a new streak this week.

I also picked up Keller this week but I am rolling with Dreesen tonight.

I picked up Dreesen as a bye week fill-in and would have done just as well to keep my bye week TE in the lineup. I see the Saints game was the only game this season in which Dreesen did not catch a pass. Manning appeared to target him maybe 3 times, but the plays weren't there, and Dressen was kept in to block all night. Am not sure I was the only one burned. Of course, dropping the guy now probably means he gets 50 yards and a TD next week.

I picked him up as a fill-in, too. Two targets last night. He was a risky start, so I'll live with it. But I was surprised to see him blocking so much when it didn't seem Manning was under much pressure.

by my eye, the emergence of Virgil Green is what cut into Dreessen's targets. Green is a guy who started the season suspended and is slowly working back in. He had 3 targets and 3 receptions for 44 yards. This has the looks of a 3 headed TEBC (assuming Julius Thomas isn't involved).Don't feel bad for missing this, I didn't see anyone anywhere touting Virgil making an impact before last nights game.
