Probably saw tape of the 49er defense and got nauseous. :hophead:
Yeah, Eli hasn't seen the 49er defense this season. :hey:

Based on how teams have been playing recently, it looks like it could be a Patriots / Giants Super Bowl. All team last 4 games, net points, net yardage, net turnovers.

Code:
W	L	Net Pts	Net Yds	Net TONE	4	0	84	419	7NYG	4	0	71	365	7SF	4	0	30	-73	11BAL	3	1	1	-174	3
NE Schedule - @ Denver, Miami, Buffalo, DenverBalt Schedule - @ San Diego, Cleveland, @ Cincinnati, HoustonSF Schedule - Pittsburgh, @ Seattle, @ St Louis, New OrleansNYG Schedule - @ Jets, Dallas, Atlanta, Green Bay
What you want to do is backtest that idea against prior seasons to see if it means anything.2010:
Code:

There you have it then. In 2010 the 1st & 3rd teams listed played the superbowl, Pittsburgh and Green Bay. Go by that and then the 1st & 3rd team listed this year will play in the superbowl which means it'll be New England and San Francisco. :D I'd still rather see the Harbaugh brothers matchup again with a different result. :)

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but for 2010 it looks like it would rank GNB, PIT, NYJ then CHI for the best stats.

Kind of hoping for the Giants, as having a QB that's "been there" would at least make the SB against the Pats interesting. SF would get their doors blown off.
so you're 100% positive the Pats make it to the SB, huh? summarily dismissing the Ravens? Pats are the weakest team remaining...by far.

the Niners would crush NE in a SB, just look what they did the the Saints last week...they dominated that game, which ,save for two big plays ( one with a missed tackle on Graham), the game shouldn't have even been that close..I'd give Harbaugh a huge advantage over BB because the old line still applies : "defenses win championships"..NE has no defense, whatsoever..I think SF is on a roll.and it pains me to say this because I am a Giants fan..

I'd put the chances at an all-Harbaugh SB at better than 50/50..I'm 100% sure that one Harbaugh will get to the Big Game..

The Giants are talking too much for my liking, they sound like the Jets now..that bothers me..

the rain doesn't worry me one bit, both teams have to play in it..easier for offenses to get going in bad weather, they know where WR's are headed, etc..defenses do not, so it's harder to make cuts in mud when you're guessing where your opponent is going..

If I'm a Niners' fan I'm worried that the Alex Smith's glass slipper is due back at the factory at any time now..it's nearly midnight..he still has to have that classic Alex Smith game in him, right? You know, the 3int, 128 passing yards and 66 QB rating game..

People post this all the time and I don't believe the numbers bear out that offenses do better in the rain and mud. While, as you suggest, only the WRs know where they are going, they don't run the same precise routes at the same speed. Because of that, the timing of the throw from the QB will not be the same . . . nor will the accuracy of the pass or the ability to catch the ball if it's wet. Add in the chance that the receive slips and falls, leaving the ball for a free chance for an interception.I get that the defense can also slip and fall and there is a chance for a big play, but IMO the process of running the play from snap through completion has way more obstacles than the same play in the rain and mud than on a dry field in optimal playing conditions. Maybe teams can adjust and run tighter, shorter routes to adjust for the weather and field conditions, but I don't remember too many monsoon games where teams were running deep routes and connecting consistently.

Eli Manning has had that kind of game alot more recently than Alex Smith

Really? Eli's had 1 bad game all season. What year are you talking about?

Giants 20-17. As a Jint fan I wish Ballard were a lot healthier than he obviously is. We could use that seam route this week.

I think he's referring to the uninformed poster who is not aware that since Alex Smith's last "typical 0td-3int" game in week 8 of 2007, Eli Manning has had 8 games of 3 or more interceptions, most recently Week 14 of 2011.Always HTH

Nobody thinking of yards and attempts between both QB's yet?HTH

Lol. I don't know what Alex Smith's typical game is these days, but I'm fairly confident he's not playing close to Eli Manning's level right now.

I still think the 9ers win though.

The rain just started here in SF and its not supposed to stop until Monday. Go Niners. I'll be wearing my red rain suit cheering the niners on and being as loud as I possibly can when the niners are on DEF.

So it just started raining in SF and it's not supposed to stop until Sunday.

Who remembers this game and particularly this punt?

Now imagine Andy Lee doing that all game but having the ball "stick" inside the 10 yard line.

:bye:

Well... let's hope that Andy doesn't have to do that ALL GAME ;) but I know what you mean!

 No argument here, friend. Eli is playing lights out....but I personally think the Gmen win

Weather doesn't look to be all that bad. 30% chance of AM showers on Saturday followed by a 40% chance of showers on Sunday. It had better be raining REALLY hard right now because it seems that most of the Niners fans here are banking on the field being a mud pit. And it's not like the Giants are a dome team that can beat anyone at home and struggle on the road.

Should be a great game. The Giants don't need to blitz every play to get pressure on the QB. The D-coordinator does not have one foot out the door. The Giants are the healthiest team playing the best football in the league right now.

Giants 24 - San Fran 19.

I think the success of generating pressure with a 4 man rush gives the Giants the ability to really clamp down on Vernon Davis with two defenders, and still not leave them vulnerable anywhere else. Hell they could double both Crabtree and Davis in certain long yardage situations(when Gore is on the field).

Every game I have seen the 49ers play, where their ability to win was questioned, Davis showed up and made huge plays(Pitt, Philly, Saints, Giants).

49ers gave up the 7th most sacks in the league, and I have to think they were somewhere towards last in Sacks/attempt. Was this due to the Kendall Hunter experiment early on? Saints still got there quite a bit last weekend as well.

This one is gonna be a close one, and I hope Perry and company bring it for 60 more minutes!

20-16 BIG BLUE :homer:

Any recent word on Ginn/Walker?

Gmen locked down VD last game wiht double coverage and other coverage schemes.. and Walker did a lot of damage underneath... Walkers health or the ability for another reciever to step up and beat single coverage is going to be important for the SF offense to outscore a very hot Ellie.. Seems like a lot of people still have doubts the Niners defense... guess we'll see as they are tested again with another hot offense..Last I heard on DWalker was limited practice.. DW is a very high upside TE2 and having him back will be big for SF... and as of today, Ginn hasnt even been on the field this week..

Giants need to borrow a page from Saban's playbook in the BCS Title game and go play action pass on first down a LOT. I don't think either team has much success running the ball versus the other. I also think avoiding third and long will be huge in this game as both teams can bring the hurt on the opposing QB in that situation. But if Eli can buy some time with playaction on first down it becomes the Cruz and Nicks show and the Giants will have some big plays.

Why does this even matter? Rain or shine, I don't see the Giants taking the air out of the ball, and while I won't get into the whole "rain helps the receivers" debate, I don't think the rain hurts this passing attack. I would prefer more Manning and less Jacobs, no matter what the conditions are. On the other hand, if it is raining and wet, feel free to hand the ball off to Gore 30 times this Sunday, as I think the Giants are more than equipped to stop him. They have been playing very well against the run lately, going back to that Jets game.

I was just confirming bb's observation. It was gsth that brought up the "better be raining a lot" point. My take is that I think it will be a close game, but it can go either way. Of course, as a fan, I'm giving my team the advantage, but all the stats (not predictions) say that SF SHOULD have the advantage. That doesn't mean anything on Sunday as anything can happen.

It matters because rain and wind do affect the passing game more than anything else, and since that's really the only area where the Giants outshine the Niners, I chalk it up as an advantage to the Niners, if ever so slightly.

Muddy field negates the Giants pass rush. Osi, JPP, and Tuck all have games built on speed.

Advantage, SF.

This is per the dudes on Sirius NFL Radio, not my opinion.

Really? Osi is a spead rusher for sure but JPP and Tuck are all around defensive ends that can overpower their man. JPP is a beast. Aldon Smith is also a speed rusher so if the rain hurts Osi then it hurts Aldon Smith.

I just hope the Giants continuously check the field conditions leading up to kickoff and are wearing the right cleats. Nothing is more annoying than watching your team slip around the field while the other team seems to have better footing because of an equipment issue. Hell, I hope they do the walk-through practice in the rain outside to get comfortable with it.

I was looking for Aldon's performance against the Steelers where he stood his guy up all night, but that one will do ;)

I don't disagree. It was Bob Poppa and Carl Banks who said it, but what do they know? ;)

Watch clip at 1:25 and 2:00 as Osi can do the exact same thing. http://www.nfl.com/videos/new-york-giants/09000d5d802d9b18/Week-4-Osi-Umenyiora-highlightsIf you really think rain will impact the Giant rush and not the SF equally then you are smoking something.

Funny that all you Giants apologists are acting like this game is in the books already and your statements seem to resemble facts while the 9ers fans continue to say that this game will be close and could go either way. If you go back to the Saints vs 9ers thread you will see the same thing. All I know is that anything can happen in the NFL on any given Sunday and us 9ers fans aren't going to hex ourselves by guaranteeing anything. Its worked so far this season up until now. What a ride. I'll be there on Sunday to watch if the miracle season continues. NOBODY!

I agree it could go either way but I see both defenses doing fairly well. Under 41½ might be the safest bet here.

ETA: "49er NFC Championship Celebration After Party" Then you have something... otherwise  I won't even open that NYG link (of course they are going to spin it how they want).

NOBODY!

Not really a good postingThe poll shows that most are predicting the 49ers to win the gameMy own (Giants fan) prediction was NYG 24 - SF 23

San Francisco 49ers’ Vernon Davis Selling Tickets for “49ers NFC Championship After Party”The "49ers NFC Championship After Party" is scheduled to be held at Manor West in San Francisco, CA shortly after the NFC Championship game concludes, and tickets are already being sold for little over $21 a pop. Davis himself is slated to host this "championship event."

I must be missing the NY logo and the Giants SB trophies represented in the ad. If the party was a celebration of the game, why not hold the party during game time. If it was neutral it would say "NFC Championship Game After Party" not "49ers NFC Championship After Party".

You can't be serious. Why would a 49er invite the other team to their after party?Like I said, if there is anything in there pointing towards a 49er victory, I would agree.

The Oakland Raiders would hold an after party after their battle of the bay matchup with SF pretty much every year. It was announced on the radio prior to the game.

Non-issue, IMO
