Shark Pool Mock draft - Version 2 (1 Viewer)

Sorry I messed up, by not being on, for the Niners pick, my wireless internet connection failed me.

I'll happily accept Reuben Randle although I think Coby Fleener has to be mentioned as a possibility.

Barron/Thompson would be real nice if they both panned out, but I think I'd be happier with a combo of Fletcher Cox/Vinny Curry.
I'm not trying to bust on the Barron pick, but I want to talk through some of its implications. Dallas needs to draft a CB somewhere in rounds 2-4 and probably 2-3. Lets say its the 3rd round. They badly need defensive front 5 upgrades (excluding ILB from front 7). They could use 2 at least (DL and OLB) but almost certainly will take at least 1. So now we have 2 of the first 3 picks slotted, a CB and a def front 5. They also need upgrades at center and guard. They did sign 2 FA guards so this need is reduced relative to where it was when the season ended. But no one would be upset if they took advantage of the depth in the draft at these spots somewhere in rounds 2-4. Almost silly not to do so while this opportunity presents itself. And lets not forget about the need for a 3rd WR and a 2nd TE, critical pieces of the offense as Garrett wants to run it. Guys in rounds 3-4.What I'm saying is that there are multiple positions that Dallas needs to fill and should fill with picks 2-4 given where the talent is falling in this draft. More holes than they have picks, actually. So by using their 1st on a non-priority position, they are not addressing the priority spots with that pick. Those priorities get pushed down into those 2-4 rounds where there is already a deficit of picks. By taking a safety, which is a non-priority spot for them, with the 1st round pick, they are sacrificing some other spot they usually deem more critical. To make the math work better, they almost need to go defensive front 5 at pick 14 so they can take advantage of the depth of the draft in rounds 2-4 and fill other critical needs with quality guys.
This is a fine piece of analysis. This really shows why yo cant take Barron 14.Neither are bad players, but I would break #### if this really happened.

Yea I agree, Tannenhill sliding really threw me off, def wasn't prepared for it. I can see a situation where DeCastro and Cox are still on the board and Dallas trades back in hopes of getting one or the other. I really want that extra 2nd rounder if we can still manage to get a solid player in the 1st.

After missing my pick for the Lions in round one, I haven't been following along. I do not want to hold things up so go ahead a make the Lions pick in round 2.

Why a CB again after drafting Gilmore in the first? What's your thinking here? They lost Finnegan but that's it at cb.
I thought I read they only had two on the roster. But maybe your right?Ben Jones, Center - Georgia instead?Edit: Yeah. Let's go with that.

I'm thinking for Denver they'd take either Chris Polk or LaMichael James. Thoughts?

Or maybe Mychal Kendricks, LB - Cal.

2.57 - Denver - LaMichael James, RB - Oregon

They now have a 2-3 year window with Manning and while RBs are undervalued, having a good one to come in and contribute right away along with McGahee is probably a decent move.

2.58 -- TEXANS -- AMINI SILATOLU, G, MIDWESTERN STATE

The Texans top 3 needs heading into the draft are WR, DE/LB & OL. I like some of the WR's here, but not so much to pass on Mr. Silatolu.

National Football Post Bio (copied below)

A thick, wide-bodied offensive lineman who plays left tackle at Midwestern State. Possesses a powerful lower half, natural flexibility into contact and exhibits the physical make-up to be ideally suited to play guard at the next level. Showcases the flexibility to bend and sit into his stance, and initially does a nice job keeping his base down on his initial kick-step. Looks balanced off the edge, but has a tendency to get upright into contact. Extends his arms well and is a balanced/powerful puncher who can rock lineman on contact. Therefore, despite getting upright into contact can still stick, but will struggle with balance when engaged and doesn't play as quick laterally, giving up some penetration because of it. However, when he does sink his hips on contact, showcases very good foot quickness for his size, displays some natural mirror ability and can slide his feet through contact. Just needs to do a better job of playing lower. Exhibits solid range toward the edge in pass protection vs. speed, but lacks ideal NFL range, will open up his hips and routinely lunge into contact to push rushers past the play.

Is a dominant run blocker. Not only can he coil up into his stance and really snap through his hips into contact, extending his arms and gaining leverage, but he also loves to finish. Showcases a strong set of legs and can run through contact and routinely get a good push. However, at times just throws himself at defenders, will lose balance at the point and can be side stepped. Needs to improve his initial balance on his second step into contact, but the body control and explosion is certainly there for him to win inside in-line at the next level. He's very impressive on the move. Showcases "plus" range for his size when asked to pull as a backside tackle, lead the power play and reach defenders in space. Plays with a nasty streak, loves to finish and his combination of range/athleticism and balance makes him dominant when trying to kick out defenders. Loves to block down field as well, routinely plays till the whistle and his range in space is very impressive, especially the way he covers ground and breaks down so quickly, dropping his pad level and/or cutting defenders in the process.

Impression: He has some technique flaws that needs to be fixed and will need to kick inside at the next level. However, he's a wide-bodied athlete with a powerful/explosive frame, good foot quickness and can really pull from the backside. Might need some time, but is one of the top guards in the class with as much upside as any.

Very nearly went to the Steelers.

Pick 2.60 Green Bay Packers select DE/OLB Andre Branch, Clemson

Green Bay again goes after someone to help build the defense and hopefully find a little more pass rush to help out Clay Matthews.

Nick Perry in round 1 and Andre Branch in round 2 should be able to help fill those needs.

I almost picked for the Texans. What would you have thought of Alameda Ta'amu or Brian Quick?

I'll review. I didn't have him marked off?
I didn't have him selected on my lists.

Amini and Ta'amu were options 1A & 1B for me. Both solid picks.

Brian Quick is a guy I feel the Texans are targeting in the 3rd Round. If they love him, they may take him in the 2nd.

The guys who get the most talk on the local radio:

(1) Wrignt & Reed

(2) Curry, Amini & Ta'amu

(3) Quick

(4) Broyles

(5) K. Randall

Amini S. would be an interesting pick since the Texans don't have any one that stocky on the line. The report reads as though he has good quickness for the build which I think would be more important for the Texans. A bit of the developmental type, but the Texans don't seem to mind that as much as fans get irked by it.Ta'mu would almost be the same except on defense where he would be the bulkiest player, but appears to have good movement skills.

Quick I am not as high on in this spot. I think he is 3rd/4th rounder.

Me neither. I believe Baltimore is on the clock.

The Baltimore Ravens select C - Michael Brewster - Ohio State

Wow, tough call here as the best guards to be had in the second are gone. This is exactly why the Ravens will trade out of the first; unless, of course, someone they really like has slipped. Honestly, looking back at the first pick, I believe that they will likely take Alshon Jefferey in the first since he is just like Anquan Boldin. That is, Boldin would be a superb mentor. Having said that, I think that this choice really came down to Trumaine Johnson, Brian Quick and Michael Brewster. But I've heard Reed wants to return for several more years, not one. Couple that with Pollard entering his prime, and Webb also being able to play safety, then the Ravens don't need a DB. In fact, I think they have the best and deepest secondary in the league. Now, Quick is a solid player, but Brewster is that and some. He can challenge Reid for the LG position since he played guard before. And we all know how good competition is. But not only that, he can learn from a solid, if not great, center, Matt Birk, since one day he will play center. Moreover, this guy could be a steal at 58 since he had a first round projection not too long ago. Plus, I think T.Y. Hilton will be the best WR option for the ravens since he can stretch the field, learn behind Boldin and develop, and he can return kicks. And, he can be had in the third, or maybe even the fourth.

If the Pack can pull that off the rest of the nfc north might as well pack it in. Some are projecting Branch for the Packers 1st pick, so somehow I don't think this scenario will play out, but for this mock, Packers have the best draft so far. Its time for the :pickle: dance

I wonder if the same thing happens in the real draft where a player just gets lost in the shuffle a bit until a team says "Hey! Is player X really still on the board?"

New England selects Brandon Boykin cb Georgia

New England walks out of here addressing the Dline, OLB CB and a huge skilled player at the wr position which they have lacked for the last 3 years.

Very happy with our draft

I was so pissed when Perry came off just before the Ravens pick, and even more so when I saw Branch was gone in the second. It would definitely be a nice couple for the Pack. ... Shall we continue into the second day? A bunch of guys may have to do multiple picks, but I'm game....
