Mistake to trade up if they go WR. No chance 49ers/Den/NYG go WR.

ETA Nice pick of Harrison Smith/S IMHO. I'd put our secondary problems just as much on terrible safety play as CB.

ETA II Oops on the 49ers call. I'm surprised they went WR with Crabtree/Manningham/Moss/K.Williams.

Patriots gave up No. 126 to move up 6 spots to No. 25. Vikings gave up No. 98 to move up 6 spots to No. 29

Sheesh

Smith? why trade up for him though?
That's what I thought.
It's your guy...you got a gift fourth, so it really didn't cost anything...don't want anyone taking your guy if you can get him.
True but I don't believe he would have gone in the first.
But with Irvin and Jenkins going in the first...I don't think anyone has a clue.
True again. I like the pick though. I think he'll fit in well on the defense. About time we had a decent safety.

Peterson's rehab seems to be going well.

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Adrian Peterson continues impressing people with the pace of his rehabilitation. Even his teammates.Players returned to Winter Park on Monday for the start of the offseason strength and conditioning program. Peterson, the star halfback who is recovering from reconstructive surgery on his left knee, was also in town for rehab -- but ended up doing more than that."He was off to the side working with our trainer, Eric Sugarman, and he looked out and saw the guys doing their wind sprints," coach Leslie Frazier said on Thursday night."He says, 'You know, I don't think they're running hard enough.' Eric allowed him to go out and run with them, and he passed them four different times. He finished in first four different times."This, from a player less than four months removed from major surgery following tears to his anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament on Dec. 24 at Washington. He began dryland running about a month ago, keeping in line with the rehab program Sugarman laid out in January the Vikings hope will have Peterson ready for their Sept. 9 opener against Jacksonville."I remember (backup quarterback) Joe Webb saying, 'I can't believe it. I just can't believe it,'" Frazier said. "So, he's doing great and we're optimistic that he's going to be ready for that first game. I know that's his goal and we'll just see how he continues to progress, but he's doing great."Peterson has begun some cutting, Frazier said, "but that's the next step. He has to get to the point where he's comfortable cutting. Straight ahead, he's doing great. Now he has to get to the point where he's comfortable being able to go left to right or right to left and stopping and starting. So, one step at a time."Frazier said there were no surprise injuries when players returned. According to Frazier, only three or four players on the roster haven't been participating in the voluntary workouts -- the best attendance in his time with the Vikings. That list includes end Jared Allen and receiver Percy Harvin, who underwent arthroscopic shoulder surgery on Tuesday as scheduled but is expected to be ready when organized team activity practices begin on May 29.http://www.1500espn.com/sportswire/I_cant_believe_it_Adrian_Peterson_wows_Vikings_by_winning_footrace042612

Love the picks.

- Improved the trenches.

- Added a sure tackling safety (critical in Cover2)

Expect them to trade up to the mid-second in order to grab a WR ... Jeffrey? Or late second and get Moss from SDSU. He's turning a lot of heads too. May even be there at 66.

If they like Moss, I think he will be there in the 5th...

Doubt it. Expect him to be gone by the fourth round - latest.

I don't think they'll be looking to upgrade the WR spot much. I think they knew they'd take Kalil in the 1st and would be looking at marginal starting talent at WR in the 2nd, which is why they signed Carlson.

I expect the next two picks to be defense. Lots of good talent available on that side of the ball.

I wouldn't mind Lavonte David if he is still around when they pick again...

That's a good name. Mychal Kendricks would be an upgrade to Brinkley in the middle.Take the BPA on defense, I think.

I already like Kalil. The first thing he did when they gave him his new Vikings cap was bend the bill. That's old school right there.

Pellisero tweets:

Spielman said Rueben Randle was an option if Giants hadn't taken him.Spielman said Vikings view Robinson as a viable option on returns, too.Sounds like Vikings are done for tonight. Spielman siad he got lot of calls about moving up but they liked spot because they had options.

I think Spielman has done a good job. According to the calculator it would have cost only their 139 (our later 5th) to move up to get Randle. I was rooting for it but I'll be the last person to complain about grabbing a zone-specialized CB staying put. There's no way our secondary should struggle with that pass rush so bring on the young secondary talent. They can draft more yet as far as I'm concerned. Like to see LB helped too somewhere. Maybe WR Criner?

My top 5 wish list of players remaining:

LB Ronnell Lewis

CB Alfonzo Dennard

CB Brandon Boykin

CB Chase Minnifield

FS George Iloka

I was watching some stuff on Streeter and some of the other WR available. I did not much like what I saw. At least not for our next pick. I would be excited about any of these guys.

Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman expressed about a dozen reasons why he picked Central Florida cornerback Josh Robinson with the Vikings lone pick on Day 2 of the NFL draft. But two words probably sum it up best:

"He's fast," Spielman said of the team's third-round pick and the draft's 66th overall selection.

Make that really fast.

Officially, Robinson ran the fastest 40-yard dash at the scouting combine in February. The listed time was 4.33, but some scouts reportedly clocked the 5-10, 199-pounder at 4.29.

"I can react quickly," Robinson said. "I can do whatever you want me to do, whether it's be a safety, guard the flat or whether it's man, zone, anything."

Spielman went into Day 2 of the draft looking for a cornerback in particular and possibly a receiver if one of the corners he wanted wasn't there. But he no longer had a second-round pick, having traded the 35th overall pick as part of the trade to move back into the first round and select Notre Dame safety Harrison Smith on Thursday.

Through the 61st pick of the draft, only one corner -- Janoris Jenkins to the Rams at No. 39 -- and four receivers -- including Georgia Tech's Stephen Hill, No. 43 to the Jets -- had been selected in the second round.

"You see the round was kind of boring," said Spielman, who had swung two deals the day before.

But things began to get interesting when the Packers traded up for the second time in the round to select Vanderbilt's Casey Hayward with the 62nd pick.

"I can't assume what [the Packers] were thinking," Spielman said. "I know teams knew we were going to be looking at those corners."

Spielman fielded calls from teams ahead of him asking if the Vikings wanted to trade up. But Spielman had three corners that he was interested in. Hayward and Robinson were two of them.

The other one -- Trumaine Johnson of Montana -- was picked by the Rams with the first pick of the third round. Spielman took Robinson with the next pick and wouldn't say which of the three corners he had ranked higher.

"When you see the board develop and you know you still have three or four options there, you're holding your breath," Spielman said. "I wanted to stay patient. I didn't want to lose the ammunition [nine picks] that we have [saturday]."

The Colts allowed Spielman to breathe when they picked their second tight end of the day, Clemson's Dwayne Allen, with the 64th selection.

"When the tight end went, there were two corners left at that time," Spielman said. "We knew we were going to get one of them."

Spielman didn't sound disappointed that Rueben Randle, Louisiana State's highly rated receiver, went 63rd overall to the Giants.

"I think it's a deeper receiver class," Spielman said. "There's going to be some quality receivers coming up [saturday]."

Spielman said he liked Robinson's vertical jump (38 1/2 inches), his character, his recovery speed, his physical style and his potential to return kicks. He could have mentioned his confidence as well.

Asked why he came out as a junior, Robinson said, "My primary motivation was that I could get it done, that I had the ability to be a shutdown corner, one of the best corners to play the game."
I think this guy can be a difference maker in the return game at the very least. Anyone know of any negatives that would cause a guy with that kind of speed to drop all the way down to the third?

Be interesting to see if they try to move up with a fourth and one of their other picks, if there is someone that they are really targeting...I think Spielman likes to do that...

There are some really good wrs still out there but I really hope they consider Marvin McNutt of Iowa. Almost 6'4" 215 lbs running a 4.5 40. He is the all time leading receiver at Iowa. Great hands and a great route runner. He just finds a way to get open. He has only played WR for 3 1/2 years as he was recruited as a qb. Not a special teams player so he will have to learn. I solidly believe he is a starting WR in this league.

I like Greg Childs or Tank Carder. I don't know if either will fall to 118.
I've been hoping for this guy for a couple of weeks now. I remember watching him 2 years ago thinking this guy is an NFL receiver. If his knee is recovered, I think he should be able to play in the league.

I would like this too. Good size, decent speed and seems to catch with his hands instead of the ball getting into his body.If you could snag both of these guys in the 4th, personally I would love that.

I like it. Jarius Wright didn't have the speed numbers everyone expected him too, which dropped his stock quite a bit. He was the fastest player on the field in every game they played though. Greg Childs wasn't the same receiver after his patellar tendon injury and who knows if he'll ever get back there, but I like taking the chance.

Viking picked up a 4th next year and a 7th this year from Detriot for the 5.03.

I assume that Rhett Ellison will attempt to take over Jim Kliensassuer role in the Viking offense.

Not so sure on trading the 138. Looks like we scouted the heck out of USC/ND/Ark and appear to be drafting in tandem pairs. Really not understanding grabbing the first Ark slot WR with Harvin. Would have liked to see McNutt/Childs. Maybe communication will be better in the secondary with H.Smith/Blanton having played together at ND.

It looks like they just flipped the 7th's this year, along with getting the 4th...
