The Apple iPhone Thread (5 Viewers)

Called to change my order to in-store pickup to see if I could get it sooner... Apple isn't even offering in-store pickup as an option anymore, they're so backordered. Oct 5th delivery as of right now. :sadbanana:
Should have ordered through Verizon. I'll send you a picture of mine on the 21st. :pics: ;)

ATT won't ship to address other than billing. I called to switch it, but they couldn't change the order. So maybe I stay home and wait for it on the 21st . . . .

And lose my unlimited data?! No way!! Oh and #### YOU!! ;)Why doesn't Apple have 5+ million of these things ready to ship today? It's not their first rodeo.

Pre-ordered my Silver & White 16g iP5.

Had to go into AT&T since I'm a Business/Premier customer. They quoted me arrival in 7-14 days.

Decided to wait on the iOS6 upgrade til the new phone arrives. Haven't been this excited to upgrade in a few years.

What version are you guys ordering?
Wife ordered us one black, one white, both 64GB, through Verizon, which is indicating a 9/21 ship date. :excited:
You're switching from AT&T right? You were able to accomplish this ordering on the Apple site? Keeping your same same numbers?
Gave up unlimited data?? With lte I think you need to stay AT&T for data plan alone.
Just because it's faster doesn't mean you'll necessarily use more data.
I can't speak for everyone, but my usage went up when I got an LTE phone, and people I know have reported the same thing. It's faster, so you tend not to worry about what you click on as much. Of course, I have unlimited data still, so I don't worry about a certain amount of usage. If I was on a limited plan I would be cautious what I used it for just because of that.

I think I recall Apple giving a 2 wk shipping indication during one of the prior preorder frenzies but then fulfilling close to original ship date.

Yep, Apple is sandbagging. My ex-wife works for one of the distribution centers that Apple uses. Nothing quite like seeing a 30x30 grid of pallets of brand new iPhones.

Most months I've only been around 1GB, so going to a 2 GB plan shouldn't be too restrictive for me. Verizon also sends you a notice when you get to 50% and you can bump your plan on a month to month basis if you need to.

Has anyone installed this and can confirm it is what it says it is? I'd like it, but can wait a week if I'm going to risk screwing my phone up. Work phone at that.
Phone works fine but I'm not seeing any fb integration and the passbook doesn't seem to be what I thought it'd be. Need more time to investigate. Gonna put it on the ipad3 later today.
Activate Siri and say "Update my status to ______" Select a photo on roll and look at new options for sharingetc... Passbook isn't live yet. THere is a workaround but it's a PITA. It will be live when OS6 officially launches.
Thanks. I thought maybe that was the deal with passbook.

Will likely wait til Christmas to make my decision...very glad Im not the type to need the thing as soon as it comes out where I worry that much about shipping dates.

The phone is not going to change in a few weeks people.

Well if you had a shattered screen for as long as I have, you get impatient. Plus new tech toys are exciting! Dontcha think??

when spending $300 on something as stupid as a phone, why not get it sooner rather than later?

Yip. And that's my problem. I'm not due for an upgrade until January. Have to make sure I don't read to many ip6 rumors by then or else I'll end up waiting. :wall:

Exactly. I'm an unashamed gadget snob. I bought an Air almost entirely because of other people having them on planes. I might even pay full price for a 5 because I like the look at me factor. I have no need for a mbpro with retina but in this close to buying one just so I can take it to Starbucks and be envied.

b/c if I've already decided to get it and I assume it's a better product than the phone I currently have, I'd rather start using it now than keep using my old one.what's the point of waiting? the price isn't going down.how is it a look at me situation if 99% of the time I'll be using it at home or in my car? I'm more embarassed than anything since I hate Apple. Not many people will see me using this thing anytime soon.you said you haven't made a decision yet. some of us have. who cares? took me 5 minutes to place the order online and it will be delivered to my home on the day it's released.

So mashable posted the buy back $$ for places. eBay instant is the highest. How reliable is the price though? I think I can still cancel the gazelle order if I want to. $200 on eBay. $168 on gazelle.

I've never sold a phone online before, so I'm sorry for the elementary questions.

In my experience - just sell it with an open auction on ebay.I think my first generation iphone sold for 300 bucks when it was 3 years old.Offer to include shipping and offer to close the bidding immediately if someone meets a reserve price of 250. Someone will bid on it. I've sold every iPhone through a standard ebay auction and always gotten more than I should have.

Will I be able to cancel my instant sale and gazelle without being charged?Like they are a backup to the eBay sale.

I'm giddy about this.

My iphone4 16GB was stuffed to capacity and the last month starting to become a pain. Freezing up, locking up, home button not responsive. Just had too much stored and too many apps going at once. Not to mention my AWFUL local ATT service. This new 5 with better performance, LTE, and bigger screen, and 64GB... oh yes. Yes please.

Really? I don't know...phone, text, face time (great for kids if a parent travels), music player, GPS, backup camera for photo and video (and a good one), email, browser, doc/file creator/editor, book reader, game playing, and probably a few other things I'm not thinking of. Seems like a good investment if $300. I don't own anything I use more than my iPhone.

I agree, and especially those of us who use it for our personal life AND so much of our professional life.I spend 2.5 hours every day commuting and using my mobile device. I'd spend double if Apple offered an "iPhone Pro." Seriously.

Did you have a lot of music/movies on there? You have me nervous about my 16GB purchase now

Wife and I both had 16GB. Filled wayyyyy too fast. I use Spotify for music now and don't even have many songs stored on there, but it fills up fast. A lot of it is pictures and movies of my daughter. So many times I have deleted apps or movies or pictures because it was too filled and performance started suffering. Both our iPhones filled like crazy. When I bought it 2 years ago I didn't think I needed much space. This time I couldn't wait to splurge on the biggest. I think 32GB may be fine for us, but I didn't want to take a change this time over a hundred bucks. 16GB would have been a hell no for us. With 64 I won't have to think about it, and I like that. And again, I'm not a dude who stores a ton of crap on there or needs a huge music collection with me at all times (because I'm a spotify user). And I don't have any movies on there at all other than videos of my kid. 16GB is too small for today's average user IMO. 32 is there it's at. 64 to be safe.

I think with everything being available in the cloud, 32 seems to be sufficient. Of course that depends on how much you want to pay for a data plan, as well as how often you have a wifi connection.

so you don't delete off of your phone once it's synced with the cloud?

I have to now. But I'd rather not. Half the fun is having the pics/vids on the phone to look at while traveling, show people, etc. :shrug:Still I don't feel I use much space at all, and it's filled way up.

iOS 6 people. Have you noticed that the notification center isn't doing what it's supposed to according to your settings? I'm getting banners and alerts from apps that are set to off.

eta: and no alerts or banners from some apps set to. on.

Cant seem to find the history, but it does give you what you have done this month. I am 8 days into my billing cycle and I am at 202.83 mb. I dont know how much I use on any given month because I am unlimited but its always nice to have the option with young kids so I can stream my slingbox when Im not on wifi
you are the guy I want to talk to. I'm planning on getting the slingbox and using it frequently with the 4g but not sure if it's even worth it with the limited data. any help you can give me on how much data it uses to do slingbox per hour?
I am not 100% sure because most of the time I use it on wifi. But Ill test it out today. Ill leave it on for an hour or so and lets see what my data usage is tomorrow
Just used the slingbox for an hour. Had 210.58 as of today. Ill check again tomorrow
thanks. not as bad as I thought.
I think you were thinking it was immediate. It's not. It takes a day or so. So I had 210.58 yesterday before slinging for an hour. This is the latestNext Bill Cycle: 10/06/12Data (MB): 454.38 of UnlimitedMessaging: 85Group Messaging: 180 of UnlimitedVisit us online at www.att.com/DataPlans

Did anybody else order through AT&T?

I placed the order at 7am and got my order confirmation stating I'd receive the phone in 9/21. When I go to check my order status on AT&T it still says "processing" and does not lost a shipping date. I did howver receive a text message that said my order was "processed" after noon yesterday, but no other information. So I have no clue when my phone gets here. :kicksrock:

Anybody else having same thing with AT&T?

Same here.

I'm switching from my droid which has been frustrating me of late to the i5, still do not know what carrier. Might be leaning Sprint, from what I have read they have decent service in S Florida and should be fine when I am in New York.

Yeah, I'm preparing for the iPhone 6. Not thrilled with this one.
I'm really not sure how Apple (or anyone else, for that matter) is going to blow anybody out of the water with any future phone release. I think we're looking at incremental improvements from here on out and I really doubt we're going to have any "Wow!" moments again.

iPhone 6 will have HD and a much better camera. (here is hoping for at least the above since other phones have these)

You probably would have said the same thing before the iPhone came out. I mean it's just a phone right? What more can they do? Don't underestimate the power of innovation. I think the iPhone 5 is a good bump up, not mind blowing but good added features. Definitely worth it if you have an iPhone 4, and probably worth it if you have a 4S.

Sure, I agree with that. I ordered a 5 and I'm giving Mrs CE my 4S. But even with that said, when I saw what the 5 included, I didn't think "Wow, that's amazing."

eta: they're basically just computers that seem to be maxed out the innovations, and will only just get faster and bigger in storage capacity.
