Apple (AAPL) : Tim Cook announces iForum. Dodds and Bryant prepare shut down operations (2 Viewers)

I think that is apples advantage right now. People want the new one every 12-24 months.

I also think that is why all the major players are trying to consolidate the platform and storage.

People who got in after that last dip, you gotten out yet or are you still thinking it's going up?
:shrug:I've been as much of an apple promoter as most on this forum, and even I find it hard to see how it can climb that much higher. When I was big on Apple several years ago, and started a thread about it, how it was a company I believed in and that was going in all the right directions, I saw that it had key technologies, and a pipeline of products it was loading up that would take the industry by storm.By and large now, most of those products have been released, and have been wildly successful. In the meantime, they've lost their heart and soul, Steve Jobs, and I've yet to see more industry-changing technologies filling up their pipeline of products. I know we're all anxiously awaiting each iteration of previous products, or modifcations (mini ipad) of existing lines, but the Apple TV is about the only thing I see coming out there, and I have a hard time understanding what it may be or do, so I can't be too excited. If I were looking at a company to invest in going forward, while I can't rule out that Apple will continue to climb to new hights (likely still has a ways to go up before growth peters out), I'd look to play in other industries and with other companies who seem to be making all the right moves in terms of investments and direction.Anyone can feel free to take issue with my pipeline comment, and give examples of things beyond AppleTV that may be coming that could be a huge new area of growth for the company, but I just don't see it right now.
I agree with pretty much everything you said. It feels like the next sell off is going to be big.
I don't know there's a sell-off coming. I think it'll be a nice large-cap stock that people can hang on to and receive some good dividends, but until I get more information about innovations they're working on, I don't see a lot of things to be make me think big growth in the stock price is coming.

I sold mine a couple of weeks ago at about $604.00 per share. I bought it at $354.00 a share. I'm pretty satisfied with my outcome. That being said, the stock market is just gambling. No one really knows what is going to happen. There are so many outside factors that effect it. You just have to make an educated guess.
Real bad move.

Probably getting out of AAPL this week; from my buy-in in the 90s, it's been a great ride, but the tides are turning. iPhone 5 wasn't terribly exciting, management is letting products roll out with embarassing features (coughMAPScough), and I'm comfortable with my return.

I may be able to talk myself out of it, but I doubt it.

I agree with this sentiment here. I told myself if Apple stock reached $700 I would be cashing out; when it did I dawdled, only to watch it fall nearly 8% from its high - in the last 3 weeks. Unfortunately I see it going closer to $630 before it goes to $700.

So nothing on the Apple announcement today?

They must be following Google if nobody cared about the mini iPad...

Actually I'm just pissed because I bought a Mac Mini 2 weeks ago and they just came out with a better one for the same price. I could return it and buy a new one but it's my wife's and it would be a pain in the ### for a slightly better machine that she may not notice.

THey were due for a MacMini update and there were definitely rumors swirling already. See the MacRumors Buyers Guide
Yeah I don't follow that #### but thanks

Well, whatever suits you but it would have saved you from buying a product that was about to be updated

:lmao: at it being 17seconds fault because he didn't go to MacRumors to read the latest gossip before he bought. Looks like the concrete information there is all that is needed to make sound decisions.

Not blaming him... just unsure why someone would want to dismiss a good resource that quantifies the obvious: that Apple GENERALLY runs on relatively set product cycles (ipad 4 refresh notwithstanding). They have disclaimers on everything these days... the site's timeline is pretty damn accurate. If he would have looked there before buying his Mac Mini it would have said "HOLD UP... refresh coming shortly".

Personally, I think the problem was buying ANYTHING from Apple a couple weeks before any major announcement. Apple is still pretty good at keeping secrets, so why not wait until afterwards just in case. Might even get a bit of a deal on the older gen. if you don't want the upgraded/new device.

Yup, shame on you for not knowing APPLE's major announcement schedule weeks in advance. Don't you have every corporate conference call, press release, and upcoming unveiling pre-programed into your iPhone calendar so you know when the next one is??????

I, for one, do this with all the companies I shop from. I was going to buy a new Playstation game but decided to wait after spending seven hours digging through the latest threads on SonyRumors.com. I was going to buy a new TV until I read there's a better one coming out any month now on PanasonicRumors.com that is rumored to have square-er buttons on the side panel. I was hungry yesterday and was going to stop for a quick bite until I fired up ChipotleRumors.com and found out they're trying out a new carnitas spice mix next week. Can't wait!

You'll be ready for the New Coke, when it comes out.

Apple has a history, unlike other companies you mention, of doing exactly what was being complained about. It's worth a 5 minute trip to Google before you buy to see if that'll save you some $$ or get you better hardware if you wait a few weeks. Just saying, you don't need to always keep track, Google does a good job of helping you find things quickly ... almost like that is their job or something.(Oh, and I am about as far from an Apple fanboi as you'll find. All Android and Windows for me, although my wife does own an iPad2, which, guess what, she bought just after the 3 came out, saved $150 by waiting a few weeks. Imagine that.)

:goodposting: But I understand how it would be hard to sift through all ZERO of the results above it on a google search. :lmao:

So, here's a company, a huge company, which report a 24% increase in earnings, and everyone's disappointed.

Get a grip. Apple is still strong and growing nicely, thank you very much.

Baked in, son.
:goodposting: It's mindboggling to me that - in this day and age with higher education, the internet, and exponentially increasing literature - there are still people out there that don't understand the difference between a good company and a good stock.

If you not buying some apple at these levels (assuming your have not been in the stock for years) and also selling puts.....you nuts. Selling puts on Apple has been one of the greatest trades in the history of man for me for the last 2 years.

12 month price target = 800-850

This company is dirt cheap here.

Lot's of tax selling going on. It is a chance to get in. The company continues to grow in a strong way. It is truly amazing.

 Baked in?

Aapl is trading at a PE of 13.5 and forward PE of 10. If you want "baked in," check AMZN.
Holy hell, I just saw their P/E. 3000+. That's absolutely insane.
...not really

I recognize you are quite good at managing money so this isn't a criticism towards you.But the technical picture of AAPL would suggest investors exercise caution at this time, and that an entry price can be had at a significant discount to the present price sometime in the future.

Oof. Wish I knew this before I bought 35 more shares at 591 a few days ago. GULP :bag:

I sold about a third of my shares around Jobs' one year gone mark. I plan on having the rest sold in the next 6 to 12 months but I'm doing it in stages in case I underestimate their ability to duplicate Jobs' vision.

Fundamentally, it's still a cheap stock. I think there is a lot of run left, and the dividends are now an added reason to hold.

I could buy back in...we'll see. I had a lot of these stocks for a very long time (bought many of them when they were double digit costs). I think siffion is spot on though. I don't know it's going to get up to the projections I've seen. I personally believe analysts have SEVERELY underestimated the Jobs factor in the success of the company.

The biggest barrier I see is that you are seeing a serious contraction of people going from Ipod->iphone->Ipad->IMac. Many people are also now rejecting the upgrade cycle. Ipad4 was launched with a whimper. Penetration into China has lagged. Lots of bad signs. The Ios has really stagnated as well and this is where IMO Jobs' vision was at the forefront.

None of this however should be weighing on the stock right now. Growth is out there to sustain the market cap.

Apple never intended this to be a new model iPad launch, it is simply a mid-cycle update of the New iPad. That's why it seems to have launched with a whimper; it was just a side note to the iPad Mini launch instead of getting the spotlight of a new product launch. I'm confident that we will find that the whimper is more of a roar once Apple releases sales numbers for this quarter, even with the Mini being available. Also, what evidence do you have to back up the "serious contraction" of the halo-effect that you are seeing? iPhone and iPad sales are growing and Mac sales have outpaced industry averages for years.

I'll have to dig it up. There was a report out noting how Iphone/Ipad users Imac share topped off for the first time in the last quarter after half a decade now of growth more or less. Was out in the late Oct timeframe. Total share may still be climbing outside the multiplatform base.
