At least one U.S. military serviceman has been arrested in connection with an alleged plot to attack Fort Hood nearly two years after a deadly shooting rampage at the base.
Pvt. Naser Jason Abdo, an AWOL soldier from Fort Campbell, Kentucky, was arrested by the Killeen Police Department near Fort Hood and remains in custody there.
Abdo was found with weapons, explosives and jihadist materials at the time of his arrest, a senior Army source confirms to Fox News. He was arrested at around 2 p.m. Wednesday after someone called authorities to report a suspicious individual.
Eric Vasys, a spokesman with the FBI's San Antonio Office, said authorities found firearms and bomb making components, which he described as smokeless gun powder, inside Abdo's motel room. Sources also say Abdo was attempting to make a purchase at Guns Galore in Killeen, the same ammunition store where Major Nidal Hasan purchased weapons that were allegedly used to gun down 13 people and wound 30 others on Nov. 5, 2009.
Law enforcement officials suspect Abdo was planning an attack in or around Ft. Hood, though they say the exact target is not clear.
Bob Jenkins, a Fort Campbell spokesman, told Fox News that Abdo was also being investigated for child pornography found on his government computer.
Abdo went AWOL on July 4. On the eve of his first deployment to Afghanistan -- after only one year in the Army -- Abdo applied for conscientious objector status. It was denied by his superiors at Ft. Campbell but later overturned by the Assistant Deputy Secretary of the Army review board.
Another source told Fox News earlier that two other U.S. soldiers also raised possible concerns.
It remains unclear if Abdo's alleged plot to attack in or around Ft. Hood was merely aspirational in nature.
"We are aware at this time that Killeen Police Department arrested a soldier yesterday," a Fort Hood official said in a statement Thursday. "The incident leading to the arrest did not occur on Fort Hood and the soldier was not a Fort Hood based soldier. At this time, there has been no incident at Fort Hood. We continue our diligence in keeping our force protection at appropriate levels."
The U.S. Department of Justice also released a statement confirming a "suspect is in custody" and saying, "We are not aware of any further immediate threat to public safety and are actively investigating the matter."
Vasys said Abdo will likely be charged later Thursday for being in possession of bomb making materials, though a Justice Department official would not confirm whether he faces federal charges.
On Nov. 5, 2009, Major Nidal Hasan, an American Army officer, carried out a shooting attack on the Fort Hood base in Texas that killed 13 people and wounded 30 others.
Hasan, a military psychiatrist, was arraigned on July 20 and is currently standing trial. His civilian lawyer withdrew from the case as it began.

The Obama Administration has taken the unusual step of labeling the Fort Hood Massacre as a case of workplace violence.
During a joint session House and Senate Homeland Security Committees on Wednesday, Maine Republican Senator Susan Collins blasted a letter by the Department of Defense labeling the Fort Hood Massacres carried out by Major Nidal Hasan, a former Army psychiatrist, who was station at Fort Hood at the time as a case of workplace violence. Major Hasan currently stands accused of carrying out the massacre that killed 13 people (12 of his fellow soldiers, 1 civilian and one unborn child) as well as wounded 29 others on November 5th 2009
Senator Joe Lieberman (I-Conn), who is chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, states that. “The U.S. Military has become a direct target of violent Islamist extremists based here in the United States.”
In a interview with Fox News before the joint committee meeting, Senator Lieberman went on to further state that the U.S. military services member was increasingly under the scope of terrorists not only just overseas, but within the United States as well.
In a recent span of 6 months there have been 3 unsuccessful attack attempts by homegrown jihadists. In June, two Men allegedly plotted to attack Seattle Washington, military installation using guns and handgrenades. In July Army Pvt. Naser Abdo sought to follow in the footsteps of Major Nidal Hasan in his planning of a second attack at Fort Hood and in November New York City Police arrested homegrown jihadist Jose Pimentel for plotting to kill service members returning from Afghanistan and Iraq.
Both Abdo and Pimentel have stated that as in the case of Major Hasan, they drew inspiration from the radical U.S. born cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, who was killed in a U.S. Drone attack in Yemen in September. Both Abdo and Pimentel also stated that they drew additional inspiration from online jihadist magazine that also included how to make bombs in one’s home kitchen.
Rep. Steven King (R-NY), who is Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee also stated before the joint committee meeting, that American service members are symbols of America’s power, symbols of America’s might.
Rep. King also said before the joint session in a Foxnews interview, that if Al-Qaeda were to successful carrying out an attack against military members, that it would be a great propaganda victory. King also pointed to evidence that showed that violent jihadist are seeking to join the military services as well because they feel they are a threat to the military on the inside and for the weapon handling skills they can gain during an enlistment.
A number of witnesses testified before the joint session including governmental officials with backgrounds in counter intelligence, from the FBI, and West Point. Also testifying was Darius Long, whose son was killed by Carlos Bledsoe, who attacked an Arkansas military recruitment center from a passing truck in 2009. Bledsoe recently pleaded guilty to the attack that left Pvt. Long dead and second Pvt. injured, both members had just finished basic training and were awaiting orders to be deployed at the time of the attack. Bledsoe boasted that he had carried out the attack on behalf of Al-Qaeda in Yemen, the same offshoot of that that tried to carry out the shoe and underwear bombing on U.S. bound airliners.
As a U.S. Navy veteran myself, I find this classification as a case of “workplace violence,” high disturbing and given that this comes on the same day some 70 years after the Pearl Harbor attack it is highly disheartening and I am left to wonder, if President Obama considers that day which will forever live in infamy a simple military training accident?
It ain't about the crime itself. It's about who's spinning the best schtick with it. This guy is admitting guilt, saying, "please execute me." That's bad schtick. This mother####er murdered 13 people plus a baby yet it isn't on the front page of Yahoo! or Google. Probably why you guys aren't discussing either? They have been reporting it on the hourly radio news sort of. Of course it was the last story with the threat of a terror attack that has closed embassies as the lead. The whole story was "he's representing himself and doing a poor job at it".
Actually, he did already.i was listening to a correspondent this AM who's covering the case. in his opinion, the defendant is working in concert with the prosecution to ensure a guilty verdict and imposition of the death penalty. if it goes down that way, the defendant will be able to speak his mind and pontificate during the sentencing phase about his reasons for committing the crime. apparently he cannot do that at this point in the trial. i don't know exactly why, but then again i'm not an attorney.
The accused Fort Hood shooter has issued an apology– not to the families of the 13 US troops he killed at the Texas army base in 2009 or to the 32 others he wounded in the attack, but rather to Muslim victims of US aggression.
Major Nidan Hasan released a six-page statement to Fox News in which he does not directly mention the deadly November 2009 Fort Hood shooting rampage. Instead, the former army psychiatrist apologized for his complicity in what he called America’s “illegal and immoral aggression” against Muslims.
“My complicity was on behalf of a government that openly acknowledges that it would hate for the law of Almighty Allah to be the supreme law of the land,” Hasan wrote, referring to Islamic sharia law.
Toward the beginning of his statement Hasan wrote that, “I would like to begin by repenting to Almighty Allah and apologize to the mujahideen (militants fighting against the US invasion and occupation of Afghanistan), the believers (Muslims) and the innocents.”
“I ask for their forgiveness and their prayers,” Hasan continues. “I ask for their forgiveness for participating in the illegal and immoral aggression against Muslims, their religion and their lands.”
Even if he does get sentenced to death and doesn't get the sentence commuted, he will probably still die before an execution. They won't execute him. They have others rotting on death row and he'll get sentenced to die and rot there until they commute all those sentences to lwop.
They already said leavenworth for sure I thought no matter what?Even if he does get sentenced to death and doesn't get the sentence commuted, he will probably still die before an execution. They won't execute him. Curious to see if he goes to Leavenworth or in the federal system.
why do you say that?Even if he does get sentenced to death and doesn't get the sentence commuted, he will probably still die before an execution. They won't execute him. They have others rotting on death row and he'll get sentenced to die and rot there until they commute all those sentences to lwop.

Haven't heard that from anyone that matters. He hasn't even been sentenced yet. They already said leavenworth for sure I thought no matter what?Even if he does get sentenced to death and doesn't get the sentence commuted, he will probably still die before an execution.Curious to see if he goes to Leavenworth or in the federal system. They won't execute him. 52 years since the last execution.why do you say that?Even if he does get sentenced to death and doesn't get the sentence commuted, he will probably still die before an execution.Curious to see if he goes to Leavenworth or in the federal system. They won't execute him. Really? Now that IS surprising... you need to post this under the "useless information" thread. It's interesting, I'll grant you that. But I had no idea it was so long since we had a federal execution. All that said, Leavenworth is a tough, tough prison.... and if he goes there he probably WILL die before his execution... in fact, I would put his over/under at, say, 6 years.52 years since the last execution.why do you say that?Even if he does get sentenced to death and doesn't get the sentence commuted, he will probably still die before an execution.Curious to see if he goes to Leavenworth or in the federal system. They won't execute him. It's a military case, of course I'm referring to military cases.McVeigh was executed after federal charges. Maybe he is talking by military.
I believe Leavenworth has a military and federal side. The military side is not that tough as far as safety. This is where the military sends all its officers who are sentenced for crimes. It has been 52 years since a military execution but my gut says this one gets fast tracked. I doubt that any inmate kills Hasan. There is would look bad for the military. When is the last time you have heard of anyone being murdered by an inmate in a military prison facility?Really? July 2010: Lt. Cmdr. Michael Fricke killed by fellow inmateI doubt that any inmate kills Hasan. There is would look bad for the military. When is the last time you have heard of anyone being murdered by an inmate in a military prison facility?
[SIZE=10.5pt]What's preventing the executions from occurring? Are inmates sitting on death row or are their sentences being overturned or commuted? Are they saying this is the guy they have been looking for from the other day?Shooter is from KC, has anyone seen Dentist lately?
According to the alert:

BOOKER had been recruited by the US Army in Kansas City, Mo., in February 2014 and was scheduled to report for Basic Training on 7 April 2014. Kansas City Division Agents interviewed BOOKER on 20 March 2014.”

Yes, really.. humor as a method of dealing with tragedy is perfectly valid and no one's making fun of the victims here.Really Scoresman?? Worst poster on forum
You were successfully tasteless and unfunny. A twofer.Yes, really.. humor as a method of dealing with tragedy is perfectly valid and no one's making fun of the victims here.Really Scoresman?? Worst poster on forum
Also, its ok to joke that Dentist did this, or to make similar jokes about a woman falling down a well and getting hypothermia and shock in another thread, but this somehow crosses a line? ok....
answer the question because im tired of telling you to get off your moral high horse. Do you think when the David Letterman's, Jay Leno's and other comedians of the world incorporate tragic news into their routines, they're all being tasteless? Everybody should confirm to whatever your idea of dealing with tragedy should be I guess. You were successfully tasteless and unfunny. Military bases are gun free zones!Soldiers are not armed on this base? Wow!
Soldiers have a right to defend themselves. Weapons should be in plentiful supply. Just my opinion.
