Is Tim Wright a must add for Gronk owners? (1 Viewer)

In thinking about Wright, I was thinking, geez, yeah, how did this guy put up such nice numbers as a rookie undersized TE?

Well, in glancing at the game logs, his spike in targets neatly coincided with the disappearance of Mike Williams. He was the #2 target, beating out the likes of Tiquan Underwood, Chris Owosu, Tom Crabtree, and Skye Dawson.

Yeesh.

Pretty fair to wonder if he can carve out some looks when not surrounded by what looks like the 2014 Panthers WR core.

Well there's nothing wrong with complimenting a rookie for producing when he had an opportunity.

That said, I don't think anyone is expecting 50 catches barring a 2013-like Patriots season with injuries.

Throw out all of the "role" talk, it's going to come down to if he's a good player or not.

I recall Wright being a serviceable WW pickup last year. Obviously BB didn't like Mankins's cap hit as FBG's mentioned, but I think NE wanted Wright on the come just like they wanted Welker on the come. They're not going to get stuck again if Gronk goes down again.

I saw the news right before it was my pick in a 12 team Dynasty Devy league. Took him at 19.12 and was promptly offered a 2015 1st and 3rd. Instant accept.

Well, playing with a better surounding cast make him less keyed on by the D. Plus, as Brady has stated he wants to be the San Antonio Spurs of football... spread it around and find the open man.

I may be looking at this through patriot homer glasses but these numbers a hard to look at and not say... why not. Why can't Wright be another Hernandez?

Aaron Hernandez:

Dates: 03/17/10

Height: 6023

Weight: 245

40 Yrd Dash: 4.64

20 Yrd Dash: 2.71

10 Yrd Dash: 1.65

225 Lb. Bench Reps: 30

Vertical Jump: 33

Broad Jump: 09'03"

20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.18

3-Cone Drill: 6.83

Tim Wright:

Dates: 03/13/13

Height: 6030

Weight: 219

40 Yrd Dash: 4.65

20 Yrd Dash: 2.74

10 Yrd Dash: 1.63

225 Lb. Bench Reps: 19

Vertical Jump: 36

Broad Jump: 09'10"

20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.47

3-Cone Drill: 7.27

Their rookie season:

Aaron Hernandez (2010): 45-563-6

Tim Wright (2013): 54-571-5

Plus Hernandez had Tom Brady throwing to him. Wright had Mike Glennon

Just saying... why not

They really aren't very comparable physically. Sure, they're similar heights and have similar straight line speed, but Hernandez was much stronger and quicker, which is why he presented match up problems.

Aaron Hernandez had the Aaron Hernandez role because he was Aaron Hernandez.

Assuming there is some role that can only be filled by a 2nd TE in three passing game is the kind of thinking that leads to people drafting guys like Sudfeld.
Agreed. "Wright = Hernandez role" is easy/lazy. They didn't have that role last year, it's no sure thing that they're just going to stuff it back into the scheme a week before the season starts.

I know that Wright is mainly a receiving TE, but can anyone comment on if he's competent at blocking at all?
I don't think it's "lazy". Yes, that role no longer exists, but it's far more likely that Wright plays a similar role (slot WR/TE hybrid) to Hernandez than to Gronk (in-line TE).

He can't block at all.
