NHL Off-Season thread:Down goes Kane! (2 Viewers)

Caps fans: Is Wilson going to stick on the top line?
I say yes even though Wilson isn't producing the points you would hope for.To be fair nobody really has with Ovie and Backstrom commanding the puck so much and his job is really to create more space for them and do the dirty work in the corners and also to play cop for them in certain situations.

Trotz loves the kid and basically said from the day he got here he always saw Wilson as that guy.

If anybody needs a stocking stuffer idea for a hockey fan at Christmas I recommend Bob Mackenzie's book Hockey Confidential.Just finished reading it and it has some really good stories.

No matter what, Eriksson is currently a symbol of the Bruins’ struggles. Boston, which has lost six of seven and is ranked 22nd in the NHL in offense at 2.45 goals per-game, could definitely use Seguin. But honestly, what it really needs is Eriksson (who has 15 points in 31 games this year) playing at the top of his game.
Says the Boston Globe:

When Loui Eriksson arrived in Boston, he was touted as a perfect fit, an underrated forward with offensive and defensive abilities, with skills and talent that would allow him to slide right into the Bruins system. It hasn’t quite worked out that way.

Eriksson’s difficult first season in Boston could be explained by forces out of his control, by the pair of concussions that limited him to 37 points (10 goals, 27 assists) in 61 games. It took until the Olympic break, along with a pairing with center Carl Soderberg, for Eriksson to look even a little like the player the Bruins thought they were getting .

His less-than-stellar second season, though, is slightly tougher to explain.

And as Seguin continues to roll on Dallas, it makes the trade look so much worse for Boston, which is unfair to Eriksson in general. He was brought in to be the anti-Seguin. A straight laced all-zone player, who the team knew would at least change his clothes every day.
Sabres are only 5 points behind the Bruins in the standings right now. Dallas 6pts behind them with 2 games in hand.

Trivia time: Who's the only player other than Wayne Gretzky to lead one @NHL statistical category for eight consecutive seasons?
Anyone? I don't know.
According to his twitter feed

Edward Fraser @THNEdwardFraser ·

Answer to yesterday's trivia (http://is.gd/w5scjx ): Red Horner lead the league in PIM for eight consecutive seasons.
George Reginald "Red" Horner was an ice hockey defenceman for the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League from 1928 to 1940. He was the Leafs captain from 1938 until his retirement. He helped the Leafs win their first Stanley Cup in 1932.

B's beat Wild ... Eriksson scores OT GWG (his third goal in five games, FYI).

the show on EPIX feels the same as the documentary the NHL put out last year for the stadium series games. should be solid, even if it was a slow start to the first episode. Mitch Korn is nutty.

Are the Leafs this years version of the Avs last year?

27th in both FF% and CF% but yet are near the top in the East.

Flames were doing basically the same thing until the wheels have fallen off the last week or so with a 26th and 28th ratings in each.

On the flip side the Wild are 3rd in CF% and 1st in FF% yet sit outside the playoff bubble. They do slip a bit in the rankings when the game is close but still not out of the top 10.

Oshie to the Bruins rumor is a thing?

Blues trying to cut costs?

Chris Stewart I guess is the more likely possibility.

Seems like the Blues have a log jam in the top 6.
Plus Tarasenko needs to be paid. Paajarvi could use more PT and there are some young guys (Fabbri, Rattie, and Jaskin) that will be competing for spots soon.Berglund also on the way out, though that is no great loss.

yeah, but he ranks #2 among Blues forwards in time on ice so not sure why they'd want to move him.

most good teams these days seem to prefer having 3 lines that can contribute offense, and Blues players are all pretty solid 2-way guys.

you have Lehtera/Tarasenko/Schwartz line and then Oshie/Backes/Steen with I guess Stastny on the 3rd line? Maybe they need better wingers for him so moving Berglund for a winger makes more sense to me than shipping out Oshie.

Wild have one issue, power play. they have no legitimate shot from the point and try to work everything from the half board and down low. Pominville and Spurgeon have decent one-timers but until Dumba is ready they have limited options to shoot out of an umbrella and that's how you score in this league. it's continued to get worse as you can tell how deliberate they are trying to execute plays drawn up by Brunnete when really they just need to keep it simple and loose to get it on track. with even an average PP this season they probably have another 6-10 points. 5 on 5 they have been dominant all year and the PK is solid.I guess taking a period off every game has been a real issue recently as well. sickness to the top 4 D seems to finally run its course and big minutes to Prosser has hurt as well (guy has been awful).

they also have games in hand on almost everyone in the West.

I think it's all money driven if it happens

with the money they are saving in goal, seems like they should have enough. Oshie's cap hit is only $4.2MM. Moving Berglund's $3.8MM cap seems like the better choice if they are just trying to free up space.

Could ship out Ott I assume too. He's making $2.6MM and playing on their 4th line now.

Oshie seems like a core guy to me. Would be shocked if he's moved. Not sure adding Stastny for $7MM helps you if it forces you to dump someone like Oshie afterwards.

The Blues aren't making a trade to free up money unless it's freeing up money to bring in more talent. Blues beat writer, Jeremey Rutherford, speculated today that Lucic is a possibility. That doesn't make sense to me, but whatever. And FYI, what he claims about not getting into rumors is true. If he's actually talking about it there is smoke.

probably didn't expect Tarasenko to drive up his price as much as he has. RFA though so who knows how that will go.
