All I know is that Fremont Street is anything but awesome. If your curious and want to check it out, that's fine, but no reason to go out of your way to get to Downtown Vegas.

It offers cheap gambling, the emphasis on this area in general is the word "cheap" That may be more appealing to some than others.

The only thing my wife and I really enjoyed was the live music outside in between all the hotels.

I think if you stay at one of these hotels you will be happy.

Aria

Cosmo

Bellagio
Venetian

Encore

Wynn

Nothing wrong with Mandalay Bay but it's at the far end of the South Vegas strip. Encore and Wynn are pushing into the far end on the other so keep that in mind too

Being centrally located for your first trip to Vegas is not a bad idea, things look closer together than they actually are so you can wind up walking a lot, not that there is anything wrong with walking.

Going in two weeks and doing it up like an old married couple. A nice suite, two shows le reve and absinthe, couples massage, some nice dinners. I've accepted I'm not 25 anymore and don't need to be epic at a pool scene or strip joint. I'd suggest the same for you. Just do it classy.
Then why go to Vegas?

Next tier of hotels that I would still consider would be:

Planet Hollywood- never saw it but don't believe the pool is that great. Other than that, this is a decent place to stay.

Mirage- always liked this place but it doesn't have the wow factor of some of the others, nothing wrong with it either

Caesars- some people like Caesars, I personally don't but it's in pretty good location and has everything you would need

MGM- too freaking big is it's biggest problem and they cater to the conventions more than their guests

Of course. No one goes there for the fine dining scene. But if you can't have a great time for a few hours down there there's something wrong.

Check out the tower suites at the Mirage, or the Signature @ MGM Grand.

I'd definitely go for a cabana in the summer, but expect to pay $350+ for one. Not telling you anything you don't know, but drink tons of water by the pool. I see people all the time slamming drink after drink in the 110 degree sun.

For shows, we liked O and Le Reve the best. Absinthe is fun if you like dirty humor. Lots of good comedy clubs too.

For drinks, check out the Chandelier Bar @ Cosmo, Mix @ Delano (Mandalay)

If you golf, drive up to Wolf Creek in Mesquite.

For dinner, take you pick. Our favorites are SW @ Wynn, Delmonico @ Venetian, Mix @ Delano, Prime @ Bellagio

We have pretty much the same taste in restaurants. All great choices.

Oats, if you haven't seen Rock of Ages, I highly recommend it. If you like '80's music, you'll love this show.

Great info in here. Except the dorks who complain that there's a thread they felt compelled to come in and read and then post in and then they're really mad about it.

:hifive:

Hey Mods can we merge this with the hey look at me thread?

fn Brong beat me to it

Love vegas.

Some of the suggestions here have been pretty good. Encore and Cosmo definitely are very nice hotels with great pool scenes. Good restaurant choices too. Can't really go wrong at those places. They're pretty decently located on the strip too.

If you're open to something more quiet and don't care about being on the strip, red rock is

awesome. Not quite the caliber of encore but for

a relaxed getaway it's great and in a really nice area of vegas. I've taken girls there for weekends and enjoyed it.

Trump international is very nice too and near great shopping. Just no casino in the hotel.

As for shows Id recommend ka. Most gender

neutral of them by far. Vegas has some of the

best food in the world so list what mrs o likes and I'm sure others and I can recommend some options.

Regarding the heat, don't listen to some of the warnings. Maybe it's because I live out here and am used to it, but it's not like you'll be walking around in the desert. You'll be fine.
I keep hearing great things about this place.

ETA: Red Rock

Another cool thing to do is rent a limo. They have guided tours that stop at all the "Vegas" landmarks. Welcome sign, Bellagio fountains, Downtown, etc. Check out Vegas.com for info on everything going on.

Anyone ever do the grand canyon helicopter ride?
We did the GC with Maverick. Itwas really nice. About 4 hours. We always stay at Aria. Nice central location on strip and an exceptionally nice hotel.
That sounds like a nice thing to do as a couple
Sounds awesome. Helicopter goes straight fromVegas to the GC and back all in 4hrs???
Yeah vegas isn't too far from the western rim. However if you're going to do the gc I strongly recommend the south rim.Although a helicopter ride would be pretty cool b/c you would like see a bunch of lake mead, the Hoover dam and the gc.
I didn't know you could do a helicopter for the entire trip.

Granted, I did this a decade ago, but we took a small plane from the small airport in North LV to the west rim, then took the helicopter into the canyon. Rode in a boat for a bit up and down the river (the water is muddy as hell), then back up and then the Indian picnic. But that tour was probably about 8 hours total.

I
Especially not for a first time Vegas visitor who is there only 3 days with the missus in tow who sounds like would like the nicer parts/amenities---and may not be back there for awhile. I fail to see the appeal really- as I've said before. If it were a longer trip then maybe, but 3 days for someone who's never been to Vegas isn't enough to get through all the good stuff on the strip. They will probably only be able to hit a handful of hotels max and that's if they move fast through them. It sounds like you could do all the good hotels in 3 days but wait until you get there and want to stay somewhere longer or the hotel is so huge that it takes a lot of time just to walk through not including the casino stops, or it's crowded and there are lines.... When went went in July of 2012 it was crowded. Heat didn't keep people away.

I know very little about Vegas, I've only been there twice.....but I was there two months ago, stayed at the Venetian, and it was classy as ####. Vegas isn't totally my scene, so to speak, but I don't think I've ever stayed in a nicer hotel.

Red Rock is great to do first thing in the morning. Go there for the hike, take pics, etc and then get back in time for breakfast and onward with your hotel/casino hopping days. Actually saw Brit Floyd play there in the amphitheatre there. Doesn't get more awesome than that!

Glad all the important stuff got out before some folks think they are being funny and cute by side swiping this thread. I think you have all you need Otis. Just check out the link I posted to that website. Dig through it. Lots of detailed info there on everything, all on one site.

u mad bro.

I get the Otis hate. He has the perfect family, great job, nice cars, tons of money, and purchases whatever he wants. Then he posts stupid #### like what house should I buy, and where do I buy Christmas lights. It rubs people the wrong way.

Blah blah blah...I have banged hotter chicks than him, so I will always answer his questions.

ray guy award winner!!You know who Ray guy played for? The raiders.

I heard an interesting take on the raiders moving to Vegas and how it would make them relevant again. It was pretty interesting. Super Bowl in Vegas every 3-4 years. Thought it was cool idea.
Good points...all.

Carry on you twits....
yeah the 400 page existing Vegas thread wasn't good enough so we're the twits ;)
It was too much info. He presented his specific itinerary and likes. We responded to it. 3.5 or less pages he got all he needs. Why go through 75? Now that would be dumb...
so the question and itinerary couldn't be posted there?
Because not everyone would open a 75 long thread.. I know I never do---not that I'm saying my posts are crucial but I don't get these loooong threads mentality..

To speak your language... wat?? I don't have a stake in this. I just think you guys are too geeky to think derailing a thread is funny. And I'm not a bro.....
