Brandon Lloyd vs Randle El (1 Viewer)

You know, I remember when I thought up the topic of this thread, I didn't set out to create the greatest thread of all time. It was more wondering about an interesting camp battle with impact on my fantasy roster.

Then it took on a life of it's own and I just sat back, almost in the background...watching as it went on this exciting journey.

I knew I had hit on something special when people were replying 2, 3, and 4 times each....debates were breaking out within the thread. It was a special time for us all.

I know one day we'll all be looking back at this period as almost a 'right of passage' sort of thing. Thanks for your inclusion. :blackdot:

I don't see this as a battle. I see El as the #3 and Lloyd as the #2 and think they'd both do well in those roles. If there is a battle I'd figure it's some camp battle for Joe to get the most out of his players. Just my 2 cents though

Really, does this matter?

Will either be a FF assett this year unless you get good point for special teams?

With Portis, Cooley, Santana, and the existence of the other (whoever you don't pick), will the #2 vs. #3 distinction make on iota of difference?

In short, if you're counting on either one except as an emergency or in case Moss gets injured, you're in deep trouble.
That's what I was wondering as well. Also who really cares, Washington is going to use a lot of 3-WR sets and no matter who you like between the two of them, neither is the #1 WR.

Joe Gibbs paints Brandon Lloyd as a talented deep threat, but also makes the case that Santana Moss is the best in the business at that very role. Randle El, having been interviewed many times, was cleraly given assurances that he would a) be a starter [he's referred to himself as the starter in just about every interview, Lloyd has not] and b) would be more involved in the offense [he's talked of that repeatedly too].

Now, the Skins could've been blowing smoke to get Randle El signed, but ultimately I think whoever is the nominal starter is almost irrelevant for fantasy purposes. Barring an injury to Moss or Cooley, neither of these guys is going to make enough plays to warrant consideration in 10- and 12-team redrafts as anything more than a bye week fill-in.

I've said this before. They signed Randel El to be their QB =PBye, bye old-man Brunell!

On the other hand, either one of them may surpass the Eagles #1 WR this year. ;)

The truth is that I don't have a clue exactly how this is going to play out. I feel confident that Santana Moss will end up with no fewer than 900 yards, and that whoever is the #3 (I'd predict Randle-El) will have at least 25 catches. But that leaves a LOT of room in between if you're trying to predict the WR numbers on this team.

If you look at Saunders' history just in KC, the distribution of passes was all over the board. Some years, like last year with Kennison, the receptions were weighted in favor of a single player; in other years, like in 2003, the distribution was quite even; and in 2004 there were two receivers who received the bulk of the receptions.

I think the only thing you can do here is to assume around 3300-3500 yards passing, and work backwards distributing those yards around to each receiving, and figuring the number of receptions based upon their anticipated ypc. This is still a team that's in a nasty division and that's definitely going to run the ball, and I expect do so better than they have before with Portis.

You said this about 21 posts ago here.So why the verbatim repeat?

I have more faith in Randel El. I've been waiting for Llyod to step it up, and I think he will where he's at this year. At least we got someone who can throw him the ball! I still think Alex Smith was a bust, and after this year,I think everyone will be in agreement with me

Lloyd: He's 'Smooth As Silk'

By Gary Fitzgerald

Redskins.com

July 5, 2006

Brandon Lloyd caught a short pass from quarterback Todd Collins, then abruptly cut right to burst into open field. He slowed to a jog as he approached the end zone.

Running right alongside him during the mini-camp practice at Redskins Park?

It was associate head coach-offense Al Saunders.

"That's the way," Saunders encouraged Lloyd. "That's smooth as silk. Smooth as silk."

Washington Redskins associate head coach-offense Al Saunders's description of wide receiver Brandon Lloyd's skills are fluidity and smoothness. On the field, Lloyd is so fluid in running routes and catching passes that he sometimes makes it all look easy. Off the field, he is upbeat and positive. It's safe to say that Lloyd has adapted quickly to his new surroundings. Saunders and the Redskins brought in Lloyd to add a dynamic presence to the passing attack on offense.
