Let's not talk about the DL :) . And no, I don't think this team wins, although the offenses might even out with the strength of the OL countering the weakness at RB, and the strength at QB closing the gap at WR. Defensively though, just nothing at DL and the DBs are getting a little long in the tooth.

I see where that failed logic is coming from. You failed to realize that the team that you could assemble from current nfl players from your alma matter would have its shortcommings as well. At least we could start Portis at LT.

You include VT?

Is this an all time team, or current players?

If all time, you would have to include Jerome Brown, Warren Sapp and Michael Irvin, among others.

Great job, btw with the Michigan listing.

Quite the contrary. A team assembled using nothing but players from my Alma Mater would actually be able to compete with actual real NFL teams. Especially since it could field 5 offensive linemen and 4 defensive linemen (4 PRO BOWL caliber D-Linemen).I'd like to see you start Portis at Left Tackle. Let's see how well he does trying to hold off Alex Brown or The Freak.

Analysis:

Florida's actually going to be a pretty tough roster to top. They field a starting NFL player at every single position except for Fullback, Guard, Center, one DT spot, one safety position (although I think Todd Johnson is in a camp battle for it), and punter. We'll use a 2-TE offense as our base set to phase out the FB, we'll promote some backups to starter on offensive line, and we'll have Chandler handle punts as well as kicks. I don't think there are going to be many other colleges that can fill an entire roster with NFL-caliber starters.

QB is a weakness, but the RB corps looks strong if Taylor can stay healthy. The offensive line is serviceable. Darrell Jackson gives us a very solid go-to guy, and Reche Caldwell and Chad Jackson are left to battle out for the #2 and #3 positions (a case of fantasy mirroring reality). Tennessee's TEs were the most prolific in the league last year, and I expect them to continue that trend this year for us as they become the focal point of the offense. All-in-all, not a great offense, but I could think of some real NFL offenses that are worse. In fact, this offense looks remarkably similar to Tennessee's real-life offense.

The real centerpiece of this team, however, is the defense- especially the defensive line. Kevin Carter and Javon Kearse are both pro-bowlers. Alex Brown teams up with Ogunleye in Chicago to make one of the most feared DE-combos in the league. He'll team up with Kearse for Florida to keep offenses in fear. Gerard Warren was long considered a bust, but played so well last year that Denver just inked him to a 6-year, $36 million contract. If it weren't for the remarkable play of Champ Bailey, "Big Money" Warren would have been Denver's defensive MVP last year. He'll continue his disruptive ways for Florida. Ian Scott functions much like he does in the NFL- providing quality depth as one of the first men off the bench for one of the most monstrous defensive lines in the league.

Behind that monstrous D-Line, the LB corps is a little thin, but more than solid enough to give Florida the best starting front-7 you're going to see. Mike Peterson is perhaps the most underrated MLB in the league. He's playing at an all-pro level, and if he didn't play in the same conference as Al Wilson, Zack Thomas, and Ray Lewis (along with Urlacher the only MLBs playing better than Peterson), he'd have the All-Pro awards to prove it. Channing Crowder was one of the best defensive rookies in the league last year, and will just wreak havoc for Florida with offenses so keyed on all of his teammates. Andra Davis isn't spectacular, but he's been a rock in Cleveland, probably their best LB over the last 3 years. He'll have to move over to the Strong Side, but he should find himself more than up to the task.

The secondary is highlighted by Lito Sheppard, yet another All-Pro performer from Florida, and possibly the best CB in the NFL two years ago (although he was lost last year to injury). Reynaldo Hill acquitted himself very well last season as the best DB in Tennessee after PacMan busted spectacularly. Marquand Manual and Todd Johnson aren't spectacular players, but they're solid enough to get things done with the talent that surrounds them. Keiwan Ratliff has performed as one of the better nickle CBs in the league with 3 INTs last year for the opportunistic Bengals defense. He'll also be deep for us fielding punts and kickoffs- a job that he excels at.

Coaching up all of this talent is none other than The Mastermind himself. I'm sure he'll be able to plug any holes in the roster with chewing gum and duct tape, a hallmark of his storied coaching career (at one point during 2003 9 of Denver's 11 defensive starters were either undrafted free agents or guys who were cut from their former squad as washed up. Denver's defense finished in the top 5). Sure, the offensive line is undersized, but Shanahan can install a system to make them all productive still, and that defense practically takes care of itself. The coach who has had 1 losing season in 11 years with the Broncos (to go with 2 SB titles) could easily turn this squad into a contender for Division Champion. Heck, as Chicago demonstrated last year, with that defense, Shanny could turn them into a title contender in the NFC.

Actually, to be honest, I don't think that team would really be that hard to beat. I mean, they only have 3 offensive linemen and 2 defensive linemen! Unless you're planning on having Clinton Portis play left tackle, I think you're in trouble.

It's a nice defense up front. We'll just borrow some of the wideouts up north on I-5 (e.g., Chad-J and Housh), and make up a respectable team.

Now, you see, that's a much better roster, but he never said I had to beat that. He just said I had to beat the originally posted roster, and I'm sure I more than did that.Anyway, I don't think Miami wins it easily. Let's break it down position-by-position.

QB: Rex Grossman, Doug Johnson, Jesse Palmer vs. Ken Dorsey

Do I really need to say it? Doug Johnson alone is better than Ken Dorsey. Rex Grossman makes this a

Huge Edge: Florida

RB: Fred Taylor and Ciatric Fason vs. Edge, Portis, McGahee, and Gore

Mama didn't raise no fool. This one is clearly a

Huge Edge: Miami

WR: Darrell Jackson, Reche Caldwell, Chad Jackson vs. Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne, Santana Moss

Florida's #1 is the best of the bunch, but Miami's #2 and #3 handily beat Florida's.

Edge: Miami

TE: Ben Troupe and Erron Kinney vs. Jeremy Shockey, Bubba Franks, Kellen Winslow Jr.

For this one, I turn to the stats. Florida's TEs: 110/1073/6. Miami's TEs: 90/1098/8.

Even

OL: I'm not even going to pretend I know enough to evaluate this one way or the other.

DL: The Freak, Big Money, Alex Brown, Kevin Carter vs. Kenard Lang, Jerome McDougle, Warren Sapp, Vince Wilfork

Come on now. No contest.

Huge Edge: Florida

LB: Mike Peterson, Channing Crowder, Andra Davis vs. Ray Lewis, D.J. Williams, Jonathon Vilma

This one's tight. At this stage of the game, I'd call Peterson better than Lewis. I'd also call Vilma better than Davis. That means it comes down to D.J. Williams vs. Channing Crowder. Both made huge impacts at WLB as rookies, both have very bright futures. I'm going to call this one

DBs: Lito Sheppard, Reynaldo Hill, Marquand Manual, Todd Johnson vs. Antrel Rolle, Phillip Buchanon, Ed Reed, Sean Taylor

Florida's CBs school Miami's like nobody's business. Rolle was a promising rookie, but Sheppard was an all-pro. Meanwhile, Hill has been solid, while Buchanon has been a collossal failure for two franchises now. On the other hand, Ed Reed and Sean Taylor are both studs. Since Florida can't field even one great safety, and since Miami can field at least one solid CB, I'm going to have to go with

Edge: Miami

Both teams look pretty close, although I give a slight edge to Florida. Even if you call the TE comparison in Miami's favor (which I'd be fine with), I still think Florida's the better team, mostly because Grossman >>> Ken Dorsey, and because that D-line is just sick.

And no, I don't think this team wins, although the offenses might even out with the strength of the OL countering the weakness at RB, and the strength at QB closing the gap at WR. Defensively though, just nothing at DL and the DBs are getting a little long in the tooth.
James Hall at DE isn't bad. You'd probably be able to use Hobson at RDE, Tony Pape and Jon Goodwin rotating at DT, and win some games. But I get to claim Justin Hartwig, David McMillan and Charles Gordon :thumbup:ETA: can we combine our undergrad with grad schools? If so, add Charlie Batch and LJ Shelton. We cannot be beat!

Actually, to be honest, I don't think that team would really be that hard to beat. I mean, they only have 3 offensive linemen and 2 defensive linemen! Unless you're planning on having Clinton Portis play left tackle, I think you're in trouble.
Actually thats only because he left off several other Olinemen:Carlos Joseph

Brett Romburg

Martin Bibla

Chris Myers

Joaquin Gonzalez

Joel Rodriguez

Dlinemen left out:

Kenard Lang

Alton Wright

Andrew Williams

Jerome McDougle

Matt Walters

Santonio Thomas

Jamaal Green

Thats now 9 Olinemen all total, room for a backup at nearly every position. Sure they are not the best group of Olinemen, but I would say a core of McKinnie, Carey, Winston and Josheph is more than adequate for a contest like this.

Mia wins this contest EASY.

http://graphics.fansonly.com/photos/school...93-202pgPro.pdf

Though I must say I'm not totally sure all of those guys are still on teams.

Even

DBs: Lito Sheppard, Reynaldo Hill, Marquand Manual, Todd Johnson vs. Antrel Rolle, Phillip Buchanon, Ed Reed, Sean Taylor

Florida's CBs school Miami's like nobody's business. Rolle was a promising rookie, but Sheppard was an all-pro. Not bad and agree with most of what you said. I think you are being too kind to Fla LBs and TEs however. TEs, I think you kind of admit. LBs however I guess maybe you just don't see them as good as I think most do (or me). I think Vilma nad Williams are studs.

i would take the SU defense against anyone and be pretty confident. however on offense after the QB and WR's the Orange have a problem at RB and OL. (of course if we could use SU Alumni at RB we would be in great shape!!)

TEXAS LONGHORNS

QB - Vince Young, Chris Simms, Chance Mock

RB - Priest Holmes, Ricky Williams, Cedric Benson, Vince Young ;)

FB - Will Matthews, Ahmard Hall

WR - Roy Williams, Sloan Thomas

TE - David Thomas, Bo Scaife

OL - Mike Williams, Leonard Davis, Dan Neil, Derrick Dockery, Jonathan Scott

PK - Phil Dawson

DL - Casey Hampton, Shaun Rogers, Rod Wright, Cedric Woodard, Marcus Tubbs

LB - Derrick Johnson, D.D. Lewis, Marcus Wilkins

DB - Nathan Vasher, Quentin Jammer, Michael Huff, Cedric Griffin

Depth at QB & WR are sketchy, largely due to Texas' history of emphasis away from the passing game. But VY & Roy are solid.

QB, none in the NFL, but any of us could hand the ball off to ANYONE with that O-Line
Ok I completed the roster... I know most won't like the Clarett selection but the team needed depth at RB, personally I would liek to add Smith, Pittman and Ginn to complete this roster. Krenzal and Germaine should so alright with the crazy WR corps and maybe Eddie has enough in the tank to run behind that line... but looks like a pass first team with a crazy defense.

I think if we lined up Jim Brown,Larry Csonka,Floyd Little,Joe Morris and Ernie Davis in the backfield it wouldn't matter who was blocking for them. To keep the Defense honest we'd split Marvin Harrison and Art Monk out wide.

Dude that said Larry Johnson...are you kidding me? C'mon dude, PSU can play with most of these schools. See Below...

QB - Kerry Collins, Micheal Robinson (although he's a WR/RB now I guess)

RB - LJ, Kenny Watson, and Kijana Carter is likey going be be rostered some time this year for depth.

FB - Omar Easy, Richie Anderson almost makes the list...But if Vinny...then Richie.

WR - Bobby Engram, Joe Jurevicius, Eddie Drummond (KR as well), Bryant Johnson, Ethan Kilmer

TE - Kyle Brady, John Gilmore, Matt Kranchick, Isaac Smolko, Tony Stewart

OL - Jeff Hartings, Tyler Lenda, Kareem McKenzie, Tyler Reed

K - Robbie Gould, John Hall

DL - Anthony Adams, Courtney Brown, Tamba Hali, Michael Haynes, Tyoka Jackson, Jimmy Kennedy, Brandon Noble, Scott Paxson, Matt Rice

LB - Lavar Arrington, Brandon Short, (Oh, wait till the NFL get's a load of Poz next year!)

Secondary - Rich Gardner, Chris Harrell, Kim Herring, Bhawoh Jue, Calvin Lowry, Dave Macklin, Anwar Phillips, Brian Scott, Alan Zemaitis

Might not have the names that the U, and some other schools have. But we'd compete!

WE ARE PENN STATE!
