Chester will molest the defenses, grab him if you can
First they give away Moss then Culpepper and still predict success. Vikings fans never cease to amaze.
Well, the year they got rid of Moss (and lost Culpepper to injury) they went from 8-8 to 9-7 so I don't see how losing them was such a bad thing.

When I proposed the arrangement I included injury to be covered under the "tough noogies" clause. He gets hurt, his supporters lose. Reason: Many detractors feel he won't hold up. If people truly believe he'll be RB20 or better, they are assuming he stays healthy.

This would be a VERY good bet FunkyPlutos. I see very little chance of the Vikings not breaking the .500 mark this season.

CT RB20 or better: TeamDingo, Real Man of Genius, Banger, The Scientist, Broncofan13000, The Ref, glock, Gravity

Proposed sigs for RB21 or worse:

Proposed sigs for RB20 or better:

TeamDingo, Real Man of Genius, Banger, The Scientist, Broncofan13000, The Ref, glock, & Gravity were right about Chester Taylor, he is a stud and I should have heeded their wisdom.

I am cool with different ideas for sigs, but would prefer something short and sweet...its a public courtesy b/c long sigs just clutter the boards.

Sig must appear through the NFL playoffs and can vanish after the Super Bowl.

Good luck guys, this thread should be good for a few bumps along the way!

agreed but it's just a sig bet. HK - sig language looks good to me...

I think they may o line issues.
Yeah sucks how they signed one of the best in the league. (?)
I have no faith in the receivers. People are very high on Robinson. It is my opinion that he is very much overated.
Agree but they have possibilities and at least some real size/speed to keep Ds honest.
I think that the WR corp with not scare anyone with BJ throwing the ball.
Johnson sucks FF-wise but is good NFL-wise. Basically he won't burn any team much but that includes his own.
There have been comments about the conditioning of Taylor.
This seems to be the big hang-up for most. I'm playing wait n see on that.
New coach.
ie BETTER coach. Not a big Taylor fan - guess I'm just saying IMO this is even more up in the air than you might expect or hope, even for this early in the year.

INJURY BUMP!

Vikings RB Taylor injury is to left leg

Kevin Seifert

8/5/2006

Running back Chester Taylor did not participate in this morning’s 70-minute indoor practice, apparently because of an injury he suffered to his left leg during Friday night’s practice against Kansas City.

Signed to be the team’s No. 1 running back, Taylor left Friday night’s practice with a wrap around the quadriceps muscle of his left leg. Mewelde Moore and Ciatrick Fason took most of the carries during team drills. Coach Brad Childress did not mention Taylor’s injury Friday night, and defensive coordinator Mike Tomlin — serving as the team spokesman today — said he did not know the extent of Taylor’s injury.

Taylor declined comment as he left the locker room this morning.

Fluff piece. RBs with 400+ touches in the past 5 years:LT - 2002, 2003

Ricky Williams - 2002, 2003

Lewis - 2003

Martin - 2004

James - 2005

Tiki - 2005

Green - 2003

McAllister - 2003

10 times, an average of 2 times per year. Not that this means a lot--Taylor can be a great fantasy player without 400 touches. But this type of thing is said about 20 different RBs every preseason, and only 2 actually typically get that many touches. If I had to bet on which 2 it will be this year, Taylor certainly wouldn't be one of them.

Keep in mind it says ideal mix. For the Vikings, ideally, they're killing a 20 point lead in the 4th quarter every game. Reality is much different. Projecting that many touches over 16 games isn't realistic, as you mentioned, but it might be a good base to project realistic touches.

This is right along the lines of what they said when they signed him. At that time, they said something like they saw Taylor as a 20-30 touch per game back.We all know that 25-30 touches a game is crazy talk, but averaging 20-22 does not seem excessive (320-350 on the season).

Naysayers will say he won't stay healthy or productive enough to get that many. We'll find out . . .

LOL. The intent and style was meant to be a playful jab at HK's hysteric INJURY BUMP thread.I would say it is more ( maybe only slightly) significant than a fluff piece. I do not expect him to get 400+ touches. Nor as you say does he need to to be a significant fantasy contributor( certainly >RB20).

But to the people that say:

"RBBC with Moore et al "

"splitting carries or on the bench "

"Taylor plays for a coach who has shown that he likes to use multiple backs in a game."

"The comparasion of Taylor to Jordan can only become reality if Taylor get the touches Jordan did. I just don't see that happening."

"RBBC to start, then bench, then unemployment"

"I think Taylor will have minimal receptions"

You might want to at least consider that his coaches have every intention of getting him at least 20 touches a game.

Vikings | Taylor has confidence of teammates

Published Tue Aug 8 12:12:00 p.m. ET 2006

(KFFL) Don Seeholzer, of the Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings RB Chester Taylor, who is entering his first year of being a featured back, is earning the confidence of FB Tony Richardson and other teammates. Richardson, who has blocked for Kansas City Chiefs RB Priest Holmes, believes Taylor can put up numbers similar to Holmes if he is used effectively. "There's definitely a lot of Priest Holmes in Chester," WR Travis Taylor agreed. "He's a guy who can catch balls out of the backfield, make guys miss, run guys over, make big plays."

Uh, guys....I'd read the WHOLE article before getting too excited:
Fason might be third on the depth chart but he said Childress has told the running backs that there is no "clear-cut starter" at this point.

Read it all.Keep grasping at them straws.

Embrace coach speak.

Childress is big on "competition" at every position. There is a reason for the language and quote marks in the quote you selected.

Look at the Facts: Taylor is hurt and the other RB's are impressing in his absence. The Depth Chart is undetermined at this point, but a player who can't (or won't) come out of the trainers' room is not going to win a starting role. Again, CT will not start week one, its already over for him.

"it's over Johny" (airplane)....couldn't resist....Have they ever played a preseason game yet? You seem to be fairly knowledgable but all along you have been looking for something that's not there and when one theory fails you move onto the next. First it was he's out of shape, then Chris Brown was coming to town, then he was injured, now it's Fason is looming. What will it be next week? If a Mike Bell scenario plays out and Fason/MM move up the depth charts believe me I'm not gonna put my head in the sand and pretend that all is well. At this point and time there is nothing to indicate that anything at all has changed except that Taylor had a hammy that put him on the sidelines for a day or two. He was back yesterday practicing with the 1st team.FBG we need a grasping at straws smilie....

but a player who can't (or won't) come out of the trainers' room is not going to win a starting role.
Can be people just relax on Mewelde Moore? We already know he is as fragile as a glass vase and is not a serious contenter for the full-time starting job.

Get back to me in week 4
Being a Minnesota fan, it pains me this guy is on the team. When healthy, he gets the job done. His downside is, whenever he gets a paper cut the first thing he does is update his will.If Mewelde does start a game by week 4, than his season-ending contusion should happen early in week 5.

from kfan:

-Mewelde Moore is still struggling in pass protection and has to be constantly reminded where his eyes are and what he's looking for. I think he will get it, but his problems there make the gap between him and Chester Taylor just that much more wide.-As for Taylor, he had a very strong practice today making several good runs with decisive cut backs. His vision seems good and he's shown better explosion than I expected to see.

Vikings :: RB

RB C. Taylor Star Of The Day

Don Seeholzer, St. Paul Pioneer Press - [Full Article]

RB Chester Taylor was the offensive star of the morning, full-pads practice. Taylor participated in his first full practice since suffering a mild groin strain Friday night. He ripped off three nice runs, including one against the first-team defense and another cutback job on which he stiff-armed CB Ronyell Whitaker. "He had a tremendous day," QB Brad Johnson said. "That's what we're going to have to have with Chester. That's what we expect, and that's what you saw today."

:goodposting: It is important that we establish a certain format for my future posts regarding the negatives....maybe I'll do my highlights in red...

CTaylor must have missed the memo. I could have swore H.K. said this yesterday:

Look at the Facts: Taylor is hurt and the other RB's are impressing in his absence. The Depth Chart is undetermined at this point, but a player who can't (or won't) come out of the trainers' room is not going to win a starting role. Again, CT will not start week one, its already over for him.

on the same day he was #1 on the first official depth chart and offensive star of the day.

Injury update

RB Ciatrick Fason left the field and returned to the locker room. He was leveled on a run by a backup defensive lineman and lay on the ground for a few moments. WR Koren Robinson also has been limited in practice, as well as WR Marcus Robinson.

McKinnie heads to trainer area

LT Bryant McKinnie headed into the injury trailer just off the field under his own power. He was escorted off by head athletic trainer Eric Sugarman.

*sigh* Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then. Besides, who doesn't look good against the Vikings defense? Now that McKinnie is hurting, things get even worse for CT. :X

 Is this just schtick, or do you actually believe that Chester has no shot at being a decent RB?
