Obviously, if you had fewer than four leagues last season, you won't need all of the options.

Apparently you can't just vote in one poll if there are 4 available. You needed to add N/A choices to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th polls.

Wow, Clayton, this is a fantastic idea. I was going to do something like this earlier this offseason, but I couldn't figure out how to account for people with multiple leagues. Good job on the staff for showing us members how it's done. :)

Last year was about the top draft spots in all my leagues, even my two auction leagues were won with players drafted elsewhere 1-3.

I think the combo of Alexander and LJ stomped it's way to many a championship in 05. This combo won 4 of my 6 leagues (I know my ratio is unusual). Even if you only had one, you were likely in great shape, and having one still means you likely drafted in the first four picks to get Shaun or LJ (because he was handcuffed to Priest so regularly).

In my main league, the guy who drafted first has won it the last two years.

I won at: 3rd/12, 10th/12, and 9th/10. In another league, the winner was 4th/12.

Pretty much all over the place, except that the FBG can win from anywhere.

Good poll. I think it's interesting to note that the last 1/4 is doing well. The mid round guys, not so much. I think if any of the Trinity RBs had missed time, or gotten dinged up, that early slot would not be fairing so well. The reason, IMHO, the late picks do well is twofold:

1) Balance. Often they have 2 solid RBs (as opposed to 1 stud and 1 question mark). At late 3 & early 4 they either pick up a couple of very good WRs or snag a stud TE/stud QB + a very good WR. Some of this is dictated by scoring, lineup requirements, etc. But the fact is by the end of round 4 they often have very good players at several key positions.

2) They can dicatate the tempo of the draft (to an extent) - especially at the 3-4 turn. In most leagues, guys wil go RB-RB in the first 2 rounds. Often, people at the 3-4 turn (or near it) can start a run on WRs, especially if the other people picking right before or after them are picking the same positions. As that WR run subsides near the 5-6 turn, they can snag a great QB and a great TE - thus giving them 2 very good RBs, 2 top 10 WRs a very good QB & a very good TE (or maybe some depth).

 The new polling options in the upgrade are nice.

Currently 56/14/15/28.

Looks like a top 3 pick was HUGE last season. I think this would be a great poll to repeat again every season and keep track of the data to try to eliminate outlier years and such.

There can be some sources of noise in this data:

1. Some leagues don't slot owners based on random draw, rather they give the owners first choice out of any slot. Not much noise here, but if the league does this all the way through from owner 1-12, this could explain some of the reason why the last 1/4 is doing better than the mid-quarters. The same owner who is smart enough to choose strategic draft positions probably has good knowledge and insight on players.

2. Some leagues use some form of previous year results to slot teams or, like in item 1 above, to allow owners to pick their slots. My local league uses this admittedly flawed approach, but it seems that many of the same owners draft in the early positions and in the late positions every year. Winning the league usually banishes you to the last 3-4 picks of the first round. I've won the league back-to-back twice and each of the repeats came with a last quarter slot due to winning the previous season.

Great idea -- this noise is probably very minor, but I think it's still worth pointing out that draft slots don't exist in a pure vacuum.

Its time for everyone to switch over to the BANZAI draft method. So simple and easy. Everything stays the same, except reversing the 3rd round only.

For 12 team leagues. Based on a VBD (value based drafting system). Through 12 rounds.

Using the end picks of 2 and 11 to determine points. Qb, Rb, Wr, Te, K only.

1) Standard serpentine draft for twelve rounds

Pick #2 is 5.1% higher then pick #11. (303 points)

2) Standard serpentine draft for 6 rounds, then #12 team goes first in each of the remaining 6 rounds.

Pick #2 is 3.8% higher then pick #11. (228 points)

3) Serpentine for 2 rounds. (1-12, 12-1). Then reverse next two rounds (12-1, 1-12). Repeat.

Pick #2 is 2.8% higher then pick #11. (167 points)

4) Serpentine first two rounds. (1-12, 12-1). Then reverse serp remaining, (12,1,12,1,12,1...)

Pick #2 is 2.0% higher then pick #11. (121 points)

And now for the BANZAI method.

5) Standard Serpentine draft. Except reverse the 3rd round. Everything else normal.

Pick #2 is 0.02% higher then pick #11. (1 point)

For a 16 team there is of course a larger difference from #2 down to #15. So while it does help even out the point and has more importance... but the end effect isnt as perfect. Erasing a 7% difference in 16 teams and 5% in 12 teams.

regular serpentine: 2nd is 9.5% better than 15th

serpentine that reverses after 6th round: 2nd is 7.6% better than 15th

serpentine that reverses every two rounds: 2nd is 6.1% better than 15th

serpentine that reverses after the 2nd round: 2nd is 5.3% better than 15th

regular serpentine except the 3rd round is reversed: 2nd is 2.5% better than 15th

Not only is it golden... its diamond encrusted.

Does reversing the third round only mean:Round 1: 1-12Round 2: 12-1Round 3: 12-1Round 4: 12-1Round 5: 1-12Round 6: 12-1...And have comparisons been done for other pick slots? Great to see 2 and 11 balance out, but what about all the other picks?Sorry if this is addressed in the linked thread... I figure you can tell me quicker than I can find it. Thanks.
