What is Sapp after this week and seeing that Porter is not playing, Art Shell is clueless, and he and other veterans who are set for life, simply walk off the team.

Sapp says something like to the degree that he is worried about his health on this team since people that own it and run it and coach it are clueless and he would rather just leave and maybe catch on with a team next season...if not oh well.

Then Randy Moss follows suit, and tehn a bunch of people basically hold a mutiny and all followed suit...what would Art Shell do them? What would Al Davis do? The league? NFLPA?

This of course will nto happen but jsut thought it might be fun to discuss.

 
They would forfeit the rest of their games. It's probably a wise decision.

True but what would happen legally? What if Lamont Jordan said I am going to get killed in this offense right now...I'm sitting out the rest of the season till we get people in here that know what the heck they are doing...Shell still looks lost on the sidelines...and you can't keep making Porter inactive...either trade him somewhere for a 7th round pick or release him. I didn't draft Porter in any league BTW but this is kinda silly.I understand he vrought it on himself but still.
 
Their game scores would remain about the same but the games would be shorter, since the Raiders would not call their timeouts.

 
there under contract and must play only for the Raiders and could not for anyone else, ever. NFL players LOVE money much to much to consider this foolishness.

Sapp can't just quit unless he retires. And if he retires, he can't catch on with another team next season.If he decides to not play hard (without admitting as much), maybe there's not a lot the Raiders could do about it. But again, that wouldn't make it easy for him to catch on with another team for anything more than the vet minimum.
 
They will definitely win a game this season, maybe two or three. But definitely one. Even debacles of teams have grown men making a lot of money, playing for future money, with pride, and there will always Sundays where one teams comes out flat or doesn't take its opponent as seriously as they should. It's just the nature of the NFL, especially today.

Yes, this might be the worst coached team of players in a loooong time, but they will come out of this with a couple wins.

When I first read the opening of this answer "They will definitely win a game this season" I thought the poster meant that that would happen if the Raiders all just quit. Seriously, I think there would be an uptick in performance if they all quit and were take over by say, the BC Lions...-QG

You sure he can't just unretire and then play for another team MT?Kinda like how Deion retired from the Skins and then unretired for a chance to play for the Raiders. Of course he had to clear waivers and the Chargers put in a claim to block him going to the Raiders, so Deion stayed retired.

The point is, it's been done before. Have the rules on this been changed in the new CBA perhaps?

 
Sapp is nearly done.... Moss should tell them to keep their money and leave. Brooks should bungy jump w/out the bungy. Lamont should go to Denver. Oh and then the Raiders would probably draft Brady Quinn. Yippy

Robert Brooks retired from Green Bay, sat out a year, then returned with Denver. Reggie White did the same thing during the same years, although he returned with Carolina.

I think if a player were to retire at this point in the season they have to wait a full year before they can be reinstated. So they wouldn't even be allowed to practice with a team until after the second week of next season. Didn't this happen with Ricky Williams summer of '05, couldn't practice with the team during OTAs because he had to wait a full year from when he retired?

No.If memory serves me, Williams had to have a hearing to have his suspension overturned so he could participate with the team.

Was he referring to a mass team suicide where it is only successful if the team bus is full when it drives off the cliff?

 
To all of the people ragging on the Raiders in this thread:

Keep it up... I'm ragging on them too. I don't ever want to see a winless season, but if it takes a 1-15 campaign to get that coaching staff run out of town, then that's what it takes.

First pick.... new staff.... sounds about right. :thumbup:

Only one team will be happy at the end of the year. We'll just be one of the other 31.

The Nation's faithful better find some black paper bags if Tom Walsh isn't fired soon. Al's clearly setting the table for the Vegas move in 2010. Or he's just senile. :confused:

Exactly right. As a Raider fan, it is painful to watch, but we can only rag on them as badly as everyone else is. Let's be honest, this team truly sucks.But how is it different from the mid-late 80s, when they blew chunks after winning three Superbowls in seven years?How is it different through the mid-late 90s, when they were habitually the bottom of the AFC West barrel after making the playoffs all through the early 90s?How is it different from any other team? The NFL is cyclical, as is the nature of how a team rebuilds. Very few teams are able to maintain a solid consistency year to year (unforutately one, perhaps two of those rare teams are in the Raider's very division).So rag on the Raiders -- it's deserved, and it will at least provide some humor until the cycle turns again.Give up? :no: Pride and poise, baby.

Shell can only do so much. His O Cord is a bed and breakfast freakin manager lol. The team was #### before shell got there and is #### now

People have mentioned Deion Sanders, Junior Seau, Robert Brooks, and Reggie White.I don't know the circumstances surrounding Reggie White's retirement, but I know that Deion Sanders, Junior Seau, and Robert Brooks never officially retired (on their first go-arounds). They held press conferences saying they were retiring, but that's far different from actually filing retirement papers with the league.

In Junior Seau's case, he was released by the Dolphins and spent the offseason entertaining offers from other teams. He didn't find any offers he liked, so he called a press conference saying that he was retiring. Then an offer came in that he liked, so he took it.

There was no need for him to ever file retirement papers with the league since he was not under contract with any team at the time.

Deion Sanders and Robert Brooks both "retired" under similar circumstances. They wanted to call it quits (Sanders because he hated Schottenheimer, and Brooks because he had a back injury), but they also wanted to keep their signing bonuses. If you officially retire before your contract is up, you have to give up a portion of your signing bonus. (You obviously can't accept a huge bonus and then retire right afterwards.) For that reason, Sanders and Brooks negotiated their releases from their teams rather than filing their retirement papers.

Why didn't the Packers sign Reggie White after he retired, and he went on to play for the Carolina Panthers? - Ethan, (Onalaksa, Wis.)

Lee Remmel: Ethan, at the time Reggie decided to end his retirement, he was officially on the Packers' reserve/retired list and he and then-General Manager Ron Wolf discussed his possible return to the team's roster as an active player but reportedly could not reach agreement on appropriate "compensation." When Carolina subsequently expressed interest in signing Reggie at a figure he was comfortable with, Ron agreed to permit Reggie to come out of retirement and sign with the Panthers.

So Reggie White did actually retire. When he came out of retirement, he therefore needed the Packers' permission to play for another team.

Yes: If Sapp retires, the Raiders retain the rights to him. But if he retires, then unretires, the Raiders have to either pay him or release him.

I just listened to that song because of this post and I can visualize all the Raiders singing and stumbling over each other. :lmao:
 
Easy answer. They bring in Keaneu Reeves and and the rest of those guys from that REALLY bad movie about the replacement players - including cigarette smoking euro-trash kicker guy and they win it all going away.

I wish my 12 year old wasn't already under contract in pee-wee ball because the raiders sure could use him right now.
