The team isn't playing very well as they continually shoot themselves in the foot with stupid turnovers; the special teams aren't so special, and the defense, who had played pretty well in the previous games, couldn't stop Atlanta today.Is all the venom toward the Steelers just based on them being the Steelers, or is this standard for super bowl champs?

A little bit of both, with another factor being that there's just so darned many of you Stillers fans on this board. And I'm not sure that I'd call it venom, though there are a few misguided exceptions.Pittsburgh is the team I still fear and respect the most. No matter how badly things are going, I figure they'll find a way to pull it out or turn it around. I won't rest easy until they've got about seven regular season losses or get bounced in the playoffs. Until then, they're the team to beat in my eyes.
Do you see a thread like this for other teams?

Steelers are done at least for this year. Too much happened this year too late in the offseason and during the season to rebound. There is a thin line between a good football team and an average team, the Steelers crossed to the average side. Bad things happening at the wrong time. 9-7 or 8-8.

Take a look at the Bengals/New England game thread and then get back to me. You can't seriously expect for this thread not to become inundated with posters from other teams. I am not sure why you're coming down on Ben -- he put up pretty solid numbers until he got knocked out. The Steelers lost because their special teams sucks and they continually gave Atlanta a shrot field and the Falcons were able to capitalize on it.Congrats to the Falcons, they played the better game. The Steelers have absolutely no margin for error now.

Yep. This was a game the Steelers had to win, and they didn't get the job done. Can't fault the offense, but the defense and special teams were terrible today.Batch looks like a good backup to have, but he's not a guy who I'd want to lead the Steelers except in the case of an emergency. Ben was looking great today moving around in the pocket, throwing on the run, and hitting guys in stride. Heck, he threw for 235 yards in the first half.Holmes' fumble was inexcusable, and the muffed exchange was ridiculous. But this game is hung on the defense as much as anything else, because they couldn't get off the field.
