Well here`s what Alexander projects his numbers to be from here on out.
KIRKLAND, Wash. — Plopped in a plush leather chair in an otherwise rustic lobby at his team's headquarters this week, Shaun Alexander serves notice that his determination remains intact despite that tiny crack in his left foot.
The league's reigning MVP and rushing champ expects to return from a six-week absence when the Seattle Seahawks play at the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday and figures he has some catching up to do.
"It's going to be hard to get 2,000 yards," Alexander says with a huge grin. "But that's still the goal."
Alexander has been running for two weeks, and weekly X-rays show the crack in his fourth metatarsal is healing, albeit slowly. He says pain has been minimal — he hasn't worn a boot on the foot and was off crutches on the second day after suffering the injury in Week 3 — but the cautious approach lessens risk for reinjury.
"Bones usually heal from the outside in," Alexander says. "Mine is healing inside-out. The thing is, you don't ever want to be playing without the outside of the bone not healed, because if you hit it at the right angle you could split it back open. That's what the biggest concern is."
Holmgren said it is possible Hasselbeck will return as the No. 2 quarterback. It's also likely Alexander will be eased back with less than a full load.
Does it matter that the Seahawks have a two-game lead in the NFC West?
"I'm trying not to complicate it too much," Holmgren said. "With me, it's when they are ready to play, they play. As for the status in the division, I'm nervous about that. We have a lot of games left to play."
