Subscribing to FBG (1 Viewer)

I can't decide whether or not to subscribe again this year. Last year was my first time ever subscribing to any kind of FF site. Undoubtedly there are loads of features and great info, but I really only used the draft dominator. I almost wish there was an option to just buy that.

What do you guys think?

1) The draft dominator alone is worth the coin.2) The subscriber contest is a ton of fun to follow.3) I get $25 a year worth of entertainment from the messageboards even though they're free. You know, I don't have to tip the waiteress or bartender either, but it's the right thing to do.

Spot on. I'll be back again.

I mainly agree with #3 above. I do enjoy the contest every year. One other thing not mentioned, I like the breaking news emails. Via a filter they get fwded to my phone ( , yes, I know) so it's good to get the heads up on things that otherwise may not get your attention for another 12 or 18 hours.

I am re-subscribing. First year subsicriber as well as a first year fanstasy football player, I won my league championship. DD is an awesome product, if not just for helping your draft but being organized on draft day. The content through the year is good for the average joe who doesnt want to scour the internet for material. FBG collects it for you and sums it up, kind of like a cliffnotes for FF.

 :excited:

What are some of the other benefits..... coming from another site, I'd like to know what you guys think is and isn't worth your dough.

I will resubscribe this year. I really liked using DD to prepare for the draft. Unfortunately my first year using DD was my worst ever in FF, though I think that's more due to drafting from the #12 spot last year (redraft league), Portis getting hurt and Chris Chambers being absolutely worthless.

I've re-upped for the new year. Very good site. I do not use the Draft Dominator as the Draft Predictor on another site is better in my opinion. I enjoy the boards (very entertaining) and the other parts of the board are good. well worth the money.

The Draft Dominator is awesome. And the email updates are great in order to know what is going on. At a time when you pay 10 bucks to go to a movie that lasts two hours, I think $25 is a bargain, for something which lasts for 4 months.

I've been a subscriber for a few years now. The preseason content is sweet. I like the Player Spotlights, Face-offs, and there was even a great John Clayton interview (which focused mainly on FF a couple of yrs back). During the season, I love the Dynasty Watch/Dark Phoenix articles. I also think the Game Recaps each week are great especially if you don't get a chance to watch all the game. Reading through the Game Recaps actually got my attention on Mike Turner who I noticed was putting up solid numbers whenever he got a chance to play. Similarly the stats that are compiled (targets, redzone targets, etc) tell the story beyond the box score to the FFL junkie. The Fantasy Roundtable is also good; I like to hear the opinions of others regarding other players/situations and compare it to my own analysis.

Interesting way to word this BassnBrew. First, I am signed for 3 years. But my main take is that many people out there create sites for people because they want to share some of their knowledge or expertise or something just cool for others. They may ask for donations for using their cool site so that they can keep doing it. $20 or $25 a year is a fair donation for saying thanks for creating a cool site for me to go to.Now Footballguys has become more of a business, but regardless the thought process is similar.Well worth my donation. For me getting a lot of different perspectives helps solidify my choices. Also, I find out some items I was not aware of and that is valuable.

I like the way the pay site is organized. I can get all the info I need in one place during the week.

My experience has been nothing but positive when it comes to this site created by Joe and David. I have been using it since it's inception (yellow board?), finally becoming a subscriber in 2003. Last year I re-upped for the 3-yr deal.

I originally was hooked by the unique Excel VBD Cheatsheet (created by Bruce Hendersen, I think) that could be gotten for free and used it for a couple of years before I found the Draft Dominator (by Hendersen). This tool (DD) alone is worth the subscription price, for sure. Not only that, through this message board I have learned how to look at the world of FF a lot differently than I originally did. The posters on this board are very intelligent and knowledgable. Some are idiots, but it's easy to spot those and move on.

I find that I don't use the site for the obvious FF knowledge, but for the rare bit of info that could give me a leg up on my competition. For instance....in each of the last 4 years I've managed to grab the top waiver wire WR (A. Boldin, S. Smith, N. Burleson, C. Henry, M. Colston) in my league. If not for FBG's alerting me to these relative unknowns (at the time,) I would not have been able to grab these guys. These player acquisitions helped propel my already strong team to the title game 3 straight years. I doubt highly that my team would have made it that far without them.

I'm not very good at condensing my thought's into a brief post, so trust me when I say there are many, many more reasons why this site is worth every single penny they charge. Other's here can be much more prolific when discussing all these reasons.

I hope this helps you decide.

Steve

I will re-up for sure. It will be my 3rd year with Footballguys. I finished 2nd the 1st year and 3rd last year and if luck were not a factor in FF I would have won both years.

I give all the credit to Footballguys. Before I signed up I was at the bottom of my keeper league every year. The info and insight found here is un-matched. The fourms are also a great place for info and a to find a different perspective.

Well worth the cash!!

Edit to day:

I did WIN My 1st year Dynasty league which I played with 11 other FBGers(No luck involed at all)

ladies and gents....Phil Hellmuth is on FBG

:lmao:

I haven't subscribed yet but considering it. Just hoping it's not like ESPN where you sign up and get basically the same thing you got for free and never get updated unless something major happens.

I never subscribed to ESPN but from the way you describe it. I would say FBG's is nothing like ESPN.

For the first time ever I'm spending a little of my hard earned cash, actually agree the message boards are worth it alone
Going hungry much?
ever heard of a soup kitchen? Also if you are looking for a free place to stay they have these places called shelters.....free food and a free place to sleep...America I love it!!
I'm not poor just cheap  , and I'm from Scandinavia. You might have heard about it, best social security net in the world. But unfortunately I'm stupid enough to work and pay for all that free health care etc., by handing off 50% in income tax.

Worth every penny. This will be my 4th year. My first couple of years I didnt pay much attention to all the features and didnt do so well but this past year I really looked at everything that was available and was on the messages boards everyday. I played in 3 leagues and finished 1, 2, and 4th. I will subscibe for as long as I can!!!

I think this post in particular swung me. Good point, especially considering FBG's special right now. Thanks for the opinions guys.

The draft dominator is cool. The ability to mix the FBG experts stat predictions is cooler. By looking at their rankings and gleaning their written opinions, you get a better feel for who you agree with and why, plus some things you have not considered.

The articles can give you more perspectives and statistics. The updates are a good heads up too.

After a few single subscription years I'm now riding the wave of my 3 year deal...so yeah, I'll be back...

As far as the DD goes how is it different from the free version. And is it for Dynasty? Updated rosters/depth charts? How often updated?TIA

What exactly is the draft dominator? I am new around here and am thinking of becoming a subscriber.
Well I Downloaded the free version and it helps you draft alot. It offers suggestions and tells you who is the best value pick at your draft position. It keeps you from having like 15 sheets of players and notes during the draft. Very Helpful. Highly recommend it.

I dont subscribe to ESPN either, you can barely look on their site without being told you cant see something cause you didnt purchase it though. I almost never go there.

I am here for 2 more years

I'm going to have to bust out the fish analogy here - 'Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll eat for a lifetime.' When I first came to footballguys.com, I had to be spoonfed my information. I was constantly the joke of the league and was tired of donating my money. After joining footballguys, I would just do drafts using draft dominator and would finish reasonably well in the playoffs without really knowing the 'whys' and the 'hows'.

After hanging out on these boards and reading the articles for a second year, I've learned to use my resources more efficiently and effectively. For example, I would examine the rankings and tweak them accordingly using correlating evidence and information that I've read on the site. It took time but I essentially figured out my own rankings. Last year, I managed to win both leagues and finished 3rd in another league. The amount of money that I've won this year will already pay for footballguys for the next 40 years...maybe not that much to some of the people here, but it's good enough for me. As long as I learn something new every year (and I do realize I still have a lot to learn compared to the people on here), I'll be back. So yeah, I'll be back. Footballguys = +EV in the long run.

 to all the comments here. Thanks a ton. I know it sounds like a cliche but "working" for guys like you is a lot of fun. Thanks for the opportunity there.

Bruce Henderson could answer better in the Applications forum and would know what's in the works for next year.I beleive the free version of Draft Dominator and Projections Dominator stop getting updated mid summer. The updates seem to increase after that up to weekly, give or take. Dynasty is not considered. Don't know if it will be, but you can manipulate the projections or enter notes next to players. I just keep a separate copy of my dynasty rankings when I draft. I use the tools before alot and have a good idea who I want and when I should get them.Edit to add - Nice timing with Joe's chime in, 11:54

Thanks much appreciated

If you don't have or want to invest a whole lot of time in this hobby I would subscribe. If you're on the internet all day and like to do your own rankings I wouldn't bother.
