Taylor sidelined: Chris Taylor received unfortunate news today as the second-year running discovered he likely will miss the entire season with a torn meniscus in his left knee, according to general manager Rick Smith. Surgery will be performed tomorrow to “suture the tear," but in the interim the team will look to add another running back to the camp squad.

Not 100% but I think that seems a little long for that

Raw player needed experience, wonder if this is beginning of the end for him unfortunately

the key here is that they are suturing the tear, if they suture the tear it will take quite a few months to heal. in most cases they just completely cut out the area of the meniscus where the tear is and the recovery time is not quite as long. i guess the healing time for the sutured tear is long due to the very low supply of blood to that tissue.

Here's an article for youhttp://www.orthoassociates.com/meniscus.htm

Once weight bearing is begun the knee is gradually and progressively conditioned with a supervised physical therapy program . Maximal weight training is not allowed for 2-3 months. Return to running and agility sports is permitted after 3-4 months if strength and motion have returned and there is no pain in the joint.

Recovery from removal of a meniscal tear is much quicker and requires the use of crutches for longer walks only until the patient can walk without limping (typically 5-7 days). With a proper rehabilitation program one can usually expect to be back in sports within 4-6 weeks after the meniscectomy (Meniscectomy Rehabilitation Protocol).

Kubiak and Rick Smith had said that they will know for sure about Taylor after the surgery. There has been speculation that the Texans may even IR Taylor even he could return during the season since they have two veteran backs currently ahead of Chris and a couple of candidates of to be 2007 fill-in guys. In short, no need push Taylor on the field in 2007 if it is not truly a 4 to 6 week injury.

Injury update: Unfortunately for the Texans, more bad injury news came out of Texans camp on Sunday, as the extent of knee injuries to running back Chris Taylor and cornerback Roc Alexander was revealed by Kubiak.

After announcing yesterday that Taylor suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee, Kubiak announced today that he likely would miss the season. Although surgery to repair the knee was successfully performed this morning, the recovery time will be three to six months. Kubiak does believe, however, that Taylor will recover fully from his injury.

“(It is) very unfortunate, but Chris is going to be back, he’ll play in this league a long time in my opinion,” Kubiak said. “We’re just going to support him and get him healthy.”

Thanks for the posts coolnerd

I find it fascinating how much they love this kid that has barely played. It's more than I'd expect.

Who do you expect will replace his spot? Pass like I mentioned above?

Horrible news for the poor kid, but just another step in Samkon Gado becoming this year's surprise story (once again).

I don't expect much from him. However, I wouldn't be all that surprised after how he did in Green Bay. He hasn't been as bad as the back KC cut or as good as the guy in Green Bay that FFers loved. It's been really odd how his very brief career has been so up and down. I'm still surprised the Packers traded him. Morrency doesn't seem like a bonafide stud and well they had to grab Jackson in this past draft. They had a very productive rookie with a solid work ethic and head on his shoulders that didn't make all that much $. Now, I wonder if they just knew he was playing "above his head" and just rode that train as long as they could. I tend to lean toward giving those interior linemen they lost in FA some of the credit as I grasp to make sense of it.

I've put this one down in another thread before, but the following Kubiak quote from minicamps got me thinking about Gado's situation this season...
"I'm impressed with what he's doing on the football field. He reminds me, I told him the other day, I had Mike Anderson in Denver that had a rough year one year and then all of a sudden came back in the offseason and it was like he was possessed the way he practiced and worked. It was like holy smokes. You watch the kid out here practice right now and his effort on the field is incredible. He plans on getting something done. I would be very surprised if he doesn't do it."
When you think about it he's only got a well-travelled 30 year-old Ahman Green, plus Ron 'you can't polish a turd' Dayne in front of him. By no stretch of the imagination am I saying Gado is a sure-fire bet to become starter, but at the same time it's not out of the realm of possibility. At least his cause is certainly helped by the fact Walker was cut and now Taylor has been injured. I'll be very interested in any observations that Texans minicamp attendees have to input on this over the coming weeks. Now watch Lundy go and prove me totally wrong when they cut Gado

Re Jeter's post in other thread,

I could see Kubiak liking Patrick Pass. He's just plain useful
The Texans signed two running backs Sunday — veteran Patrick Pass (New England) and rookie Darius Walker (Notre Dame). Pass earned three Super Bowl rings as a backup with the Patriots. Walker signed with the Texans as a free agent but was waived before camp.

The Texans signed Pass over Quentin Griffin.

"Pass can play more than one position, including fullback," coach Gary Kubiak said.

Pass starting at FB next gametold ya Kubiak would like him. I think this should make some A Green owners happy as well as he's a pretty solid lead blocker. He's a fairly good runner himself and has pretty good hands so Ds might have to account for him a smidge. I'm figuring any attention(no matter how small) not on ol man Green is good too.

IF IF this means he's a starter opening day, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a handful of GL TDs like alot of FBs do. Not a vulture or anything, just whatever the norm is
