Lee Evans (1 Viewer)

I've got an owner in my league wanting to trade Lee Evans. I think I'm going to offer him Reggie Brown straight up

I agree that random chance is the most likely explanation for Evans's consistent 3-year 1st half/2nd half discrepancy (actually more like a 7 game/9 game discrepancy). But that said, there are reasons to think that certain types of player are more likely to excel in one half or the other, and Evans is definitely one who should do well later, for the reason that he always catches so few passes early in the year that he's relatively fresh come mid-season. It's easier to run past corners when they've made 30 tackles over the course of the year.
You expend just as much energy running a route and not getting the ball as you do running a route and making the catch. I don't buy the "Evans hasn't caught many passes so he must be fresh!" argument. That holds water with RBs, but not WRs. JMHO.
It's not the catches or the route-running, it's the hits. Evans ran track in college--he can run go patterns all day. If he catches four balls per game, and runs out of bounds on two of them, he's going to get worn down less than other receivers who take more contact. I agree this is less important than for backs, but I won't rule out that it could make a difference.
Runningbacks decline after getting 370 touches in a season, which would probably mean getting hit maybe 250 times. Even if Evans starts slow, we're talking about 30 catches in the first half of the season instead of 50, which probably amounts to 12-15 fewer hits than a comparable WR who spread his production evenly over all 16 games. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this is entirely a non-factor. 12 fewer hits in 8 weeks? A complete and total non-issue.

Is he getting targets?
YTD, he has 12, but the Bills have only attempted 46 pass attempts. The bigger problem seems to be the schedule. Last year, Lohsman had (3) games with zero TDs, twice against NE and once against Indy. You can bet I'm benching him this week and will wait for the Jets to come to town.

I'm not worried yet, but he's definitely now on my bench for a week or two until the Bills show some signs of life. I don't care if you're Jerry Rice, if your QB isn't throwing your way [or throwing at all for that matter], you can't help my fantasy team as a WR1/WR2.
 i didnt think twice to start him this week in the one league i have him in. however after this week he gets benched until i see something that gives me encouragement.
He just copied off of me a few spots before he posted, give cred to the original poster *wink*

dang, looks like Evans for you. Fret not, since I'm benching him he's sure to have a 50 yard Td this weekend to spark his season. Who knows, come week 9 we may be reading something like; Levans has a TD in 7 straight TD games

You wanna see AMAZING splits?

Since he came into the league...

In the 26 games he's played in that were in weeks 1-8 - 77 catches, 13.82 ypc, 1064 yards, 5 TDs

In the 24 games he's played in that were in weeks 9-16 - 105 catches, 17.49 ypc, 1836 yards, 19 TDs

DO NOT SELL

I am going to continue starting him. I may be banging my head into a wall, but once Evans got untracked last season (after Week 2), he was at the very least startable for every week except 1 (New England).

What is killing me, however, is that my starting Evans has kept Braylon Edwards on the bench...

I think they make a point to get him the ball this next weekend  I will die with Evans
why is your team in your sig? :X
You'll notice that in a lot of sigs. It helps when you are discussing trades, WSISs, etc. you don't have to explain your situation because it's in your sig.
you are only in one league?
:pickle: I put so much time and thought into this one, I can't imagine doing two.

That is so random. I was thinking exactly the same thing as I was reading through this thread. Need a good game from Reggie tonight on MNF with everyone watching to make that offer viable though.

It's not just one league, it's an Ultra Competitive $$$. These FF leagues are like street gangs, you're in them til' you die.

Serious Business™.

If Brown gets 150 yds and 2 TDs, as a Evans owner I'd still tell you to stuff it.

You are pretty hardcore man

Evans isn't getting open. There's been times when Losman has had time in the pocket and Evans either couldn't get any type of separation or he flat out quit on his routes. This goes for all Buffalo WRs. Losman hasn't been making anything happen but it's difficult to do when you have no one to throw to.

Lee Evans vs NE, last 3 years.....

2004:

Week 4 - 5 Targets - 4 Rec - 93 yds

Week 10 - 2 Targets - 1 Rec - 15 yds

2005:

Week 8 - 4 Targets - 1 Rec - 14 yds

Week 14 - 7 Targets - 4 Rec - 83 yds

2006:

Week 1 - 5 Targets - 2 Rec - 25 yds

Week 7 - 6 Targets - 1 Rec - 10 yds

6 games - 4.8 Targets/Game - 2.1 Rec/Game - 40 yds/Game

These averages, coupled with his slow start and the anemic Buffalo offense, means I am strongly considering benching him this week.

I would bench Evans, but my 4 and 5 WRs are not very strong, not to mention that I know Evans will go off the minute I bench him. Besides, he was my 3rd round pick, so I cannot bail on him yet.

I didn't think twice about last week, but this second lousy showing in a row has me concerned. Don't want to think of the receivers I passed over for him.

Why would some one trade Evans (who has done nothing) for Brown (who has done nothing), when Evans has been more productive in the past and was generally expected to have a better year than Brown.I can't see Brown as something an Evans owner would see as an upgrade.

The league I own Evans in only requires starting 1 WR and I plan to bench him this week for Chris Chambers. (Wow, did I really just say that?!)

one word: PANICThe owner in my league that has Evans is 0-2. Not to mention the fact that his team is loaded with LT, Edgerrin James, Reggie Wayne, etc. So I'm going to take full advantage of that.

Some interesting news from Rotoworld today:

Lee Evans-WR- Bills Sep. 19 - 5:46 pm et The Bills are considering moving Lee Evans around more to decrease opponents' ability to roll their best coverage to his side of the field.Anything to get Evans jump started would be much appreciated. Using him from the slot may allow Buffalo to more easily get the ball into Evans' hands.Source: buffalobills.com
I still doubt it will help much against the Patriots, but it is a positive that the Bills are actually considering scheming (shocking idea) to get Evans the ball more. His history against the Patriots is enough to keep him on the bench for me, but it is making me think a little bit more about it.

Guys... past stats, ect... mean absolutely nothing. Anyone with a brain knows that Evans is a stud. All it takes is for Evans to get one good break on a cornerback, and he's in paydirt. Doesn't matter who he is playing against. Never bench your stud receiver. The man is capable of putting up 265 yards in a game like he did last year. JP Losman is on fire for one game, and Lee Evans is going to light up whoever he is playing against. It happened plenty of times last year, and it will happen against this year.

Ive watched the Bills games so far and Losman overthrew Evans on what was an open bomb that would have been for a 60 yard touchdown, and in this last game he almost made a nice grab in the endzone where he and teh DB got tangled up but he dropped the ball when he hit the groud and he got PI'ed on another endzone target which led to him freaking out and getting an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. His numbers have been pedestrian thus far but he is a home run threat, and it just seems he and Losman are out of synch just by a little, and Jauron really has the reins on Losman right now...but the Pats should be up BIG after their first 3-4 posessions so I can see the Bills airing it out for three quarters which could help Losman

So sounds like Evans owners are pretty desperate at this point .. buddy in my league who has him was texting me about "i just have to do something about this lee evans situation" ... I was thinking of making a buy low offer, just a question of how low Evans can go ...

Just to gauge owners desperation level, if you were to get someone of the Braylon, Boldin, Galloway, Colston range in a package deal, what kind of an upgrade would you consider that for you?

Minor?

Signifcant?

Take it in a heartbeat just get him off my team?

I drafted him above all those guys so I would not trade him after only two weeks (but Im not one to panic). If I was looking to deal him I would not take a lesser tallent. I would look package him along w/ a RB or someone else where I had depth and trade for a stud WR (although I believe Evans will produce like Top-10 numbers from here on out, so I consider him a stud).

Evans owner has inquired if I would trade R. Curry for him.
I have seen Curry for Evans mentioned several times on the board now. This is the exact trade I just made (received Evans).

I was offered Lendale White and a rookie first round pick in dynasty (the pick is likely to be a late first rounder though), but I don't think I'll accept. After a couple of years of being very good I just don't see Evans regressing.

When's his contract up? Imagine what he could do on a team with a half decent offense already in place? Perhaps he'd like to try to fill Marvin's shoes in a couple a years??

Unfortunatly, Evans is tied to Lohsman. Career to date, Lohsman cannot rise to the occassion vs good pass defenses. Its going to be ugly vs NE this week, but look for good things when NYJ come to town.

I was just offered Evans staright up for welker...My WR are TO,Fitz,Driver...
Are you in a 2 man league? How on earth did you end up with TO, Fitzgerald, Driver, and Welker as your wide outs? BTW, that is an easy YES on that question. I would trade Welker for Evans any day. Especially considering the fact that you have three great wide outs already... and you can throw Evans in during his great match-ups.

You do realiZe that you can't spell? You're in 5 leagues or your IQ is 5? Or you were age 5 approximately 10-15 years ago? You can't be over 20 years old and post that right? If you could group letters into words and words into sentences, you'd realiZe that I put my team in my sig. not because I think someone gives a rats ###, but because it saves time when discussing moves. It's called reading, left to right, up to down, look into it, you might like it.I'll make sure I take my team out of my sig. right away so that I don't appear gay! :blackdot:

Worried or not, he rides the pine this weekend in favor of Curry.
 Same here. Hoping Curry can have the same kind of game against Cleveland's secondary that he had against Detroit's, but I won't be moving Evans. I'm looking for his big game next week against the Jets.

Was offered Evans for Cotchery. I'm thinking of taking it given that Evans (currently Cotchery) is my WR3 behind Harrison and J. Walker.

I reluctantly make a similar deal at this time last year and Evans was SOLID for me from there on. I'd make it. Good luck. :)

This is the kind of insight that keeps me coming back to the Shark Pool.Seriously, could you two PM eachother if you are going to get into stupid fights about spelling. :bag:

What's the deal with this weeks matchup? How has Asante Samuel been playing this year? Does Evans have a shot this week, will they double him all game?
